Internships were conceived under the framework of Leonardo da Vinci Programme

Lifelong Learning Programme (2007-2013)

Student Mobility for Placements

What? Enables students at higher education institutions to carrying out an internship period in an enterprise, training centres, research centres, higher education institutions or other organisations, in one of the 32 participating European countries.

2 Types of SMp: curricular (ECTS credits) or Extra-curricular (Diploma Suplement)

Duration: between 3 months and 12 months

Erasmus SMP – Student Mobility for Placements (cont.)

Who? Students enrolled at the University of Coimbra (1st and 2nd cycle), in the same academic year in which the mobility occurs.

Why?

1. Contribute to developing the student's personal and professional competences, including languages and intercultural competence;

2. To help students to adapt to the requirements of the EU-wide labour market;

3. “To contribute to the development of a pool of well-qualified, open-minded and internationally experienced young people as future professionals.”


How to apply

1) The student has to find an institution to do the SMp or select one of our partners (DRI website, teachers, consortium,…);

2) Has to do the pre-registration at DRI website and submit it to the ERASMUS Departmental Coordinator;

3) If it is approved, the ERASMUS Departmental Coordinator negotiates the Training Programme with the “company” and sends the student’ file to DRI;

4) DRI takes care of all bureaucracies;

5) At the end of the period abroad it will be given full recognition, as agreed in the Training Programme – evaluation by the company (ECTS credits or if it is not part of the curriculum of the student, the UC provides recognition by recording this period in the DS).

Funding

• Students may be awarded an ERASMUS grant to help cover the travel and subsistence costs – the value depends on the host country and duration of the placement.

• Students may get a financial contribution or a contribution in kind by the host enterprise/organisation.

With LLP - since 2007/8

Leonardo da Vinci became one of the Sub-programmes of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP), focused on Vocational training.

LdV placements for graduates (Transnational placements in enterprises)

Who?

Target public of the UC projects: “People in the Labour Market” (PLM) = recent graduates

Leonardo da Vinci Internships (cont.)

What? Is a period of work experience, in real work environment, undertaken by a UC graduate in a partner organisation, in another participating country. Help participants acquiring and using knowledge, skills and qualifications to facilitate their personal development, employability and participation in the European Labour Market. Match between the training selected and the applicant's training needs.

Duration: from 2 until 26 weeks

Why? The training activity abroad will have a greater potential value than similar training in Portugal, and it is clearly demonstrated that the applicant will benefit from this experience in terms of professional development (including intercultural and language competences) and personal development (active citizenship). The training may be expected to have a significant impact on the personal and professional competences of the applicant.


How to apply 1. Submit the application to the International Relations Unit – choose an existing

partner or other found by themselves;

2. “Ranking” of candidates by the final average of graduation (International Relations Unit + Mobility Coordinators/teachers involved in this process), linguistic competences and motivation;

3. Final selection and acceptance by the company; 4. DRI contacts the company to negotiate the “Training agreement” (dates, programme

of work, monitoring, evaluation, etc.) and issues the Leonardo da Vinci contracts;

5. The trainee will be evaluated (interim and final) by the company; 6. The LdV internship will be certified by the UC and also using the EUROPASS

Mobility. DRI is responsible for the financial management of the entire project and is the contact point between all the University’ services and the Portuguese National Agency
