    thRe: July 4m ParadeDear Parade Participant:On behalf of the City of Plainfield, Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs, and the PlainfieldDivision of Recreation, w e would l ike to thank you for sending in your application toparticipate in this year's parade. Enclosed please find a copy of th e 87th Annual July 4 thParade Acknowledgement fo r Rules and Regulation and finally th e rules and regulations.* Please note that al l floats mu st be professionally done.The parade's theme is "A Time to Celebrate, Honoring our Past, Building a BetterFuture". Because th e holiday falls on a Sunday, th e parade will be held on Saturday, July3, 2010 @ 10:00 am and fireworks display will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 - 9:00pm , Cedar Brook Park.Parade participants will be l ined up on Johnston, Garfield and Netherwood Avenue inPlainfield, N J. Markers indicating your placement will be displayed along th e curb.There will be V olunteer Marshals th ere to direct you to your position in the line-up.Applicants can begin to line up as early as 8:30 am , and the parade will begin at 10:00am .     PARADE ENTRYRULESANDREGULATIONS

    1 . AH participants must be at their assigned location no later than 9:45 am .Failure to do so can result in you not being allowed to march in theParade. Y ou will not be refunded your registration fee.2. Orders from the parade Marshals must be obeyed without exception. TheMarshals are there to ensure the safety of the spectators and the paradeparticipants and to keep th e parade moving in a t imely and orderly fashion.Disregarding any of the Marshals instructions can result in a one-year or moresuspension from future parades.3. Lewd, sexually suggestive, or offensive groups will not be permitted in the4. Parade participants must be appropriately dressed fo r this family event.Parade Marshals and officials will be the final and only judge of what isoffensive, and their decision is final! Each applicant is responsible for themem bers of their group.5. All groups must keep moving (with th e exception of drill teams, marchingunits, dancers, musicians can perform at the 3 announcing standsthroughout the parade route for 1 minute: Locations are Mount ZionChurch, Richmond Towers and Y W C A ) causing th e parade to stall or stopis a violation of the rules and will result in disqualif ication for the currentyear's awards as well as loss of eligibility to march in next year's parade. If

    th e parade stops, you may perform, however, you must IMMEDIATELY startmoving forward as soon as the parade begins to move again. There is to be nomore than 50 feet between your unit and the unit in front of you. This wil lensure that there are no gaps in the parade.6. All Floats Must Be Professionally Made. Only flatbeds, which ar edecorated as floats (parade theme, 87 Anniversary theme, or patriotictheme), will be judged as floats. A ll other vehicles (musical, religious,athletic groups) will be judged in other appropriate categories. Please do notindicate that you are a float if you are a musical group or other group and areusing the vehicle as a means of transportation in parade.7. Vehicle entries, which are not theme floats, must have PATRIOTICDECORATIONS. N o unadorned vehicles will be permitted in the parade.All vehicles must have a substantial amount of patriotic decoration: red,white, and blue streamers or bunting and/or red, white and blue balloons, etc.Emergency vehicles and antique cars are exempt.

    Entries m ust l ine up in the correct order. If you are unc ertain of your line-upposition, the officials at the start of the parade wil l be glad to help you findyour spot.

    9. Each entry is allowed up to 4 chaperones. Anyone who is not part of yourfloat, vehicle, or marching uni t wil l not be permitted to march alongside yourentry. Un-costumed fol lowers are not allowed. Entr ies with groups offriends, relatives or acquaintances following alongside w il l be disqualified andm ay receive a one year suspension from the parade.10. Commercial advertising will only be permit ted at the discretion of the parade

    officials. Entry forms must clearly s tate th e nature of the advert isement. A$150.00 entry fee must accompany the entry.11. There wil l be no t h rowing of i t ems from t rucks, cars, floats, etc. No hand-outsof any sort w ill be allowed along the p arade route.12. Absolutely NO ALCOHOLIC B E V E R A G E S permitted13. Entry identif icat ion num bers wil l be h anded out as you l ine up on yourdesignated street and M UST be placed on the up per center windsh ield ofvehicles and to the r ight f ront position fo r marching uni ts . Proper placementensures that the judges will be able to identify your uni t for awards.14. Th e parade w il l disband at M adison A venue & E. Front Street, Plainfield, N J15. Infraction of any of the above rules will affect the eligibility of your unit to bejudged for a t rophy and could result in a one year suspension from the parade.
