Hong Kong! Hong Kong is an island, on the East

of China. It is known as the ‘Jasmine

Harbour’, because sailors could smell jasmine when they sailed into the harbour in olden days.

It is very pleasant and calm and has heaps of attractions and things to do.

It has vibrant cities, great for shopping, or quiet mountain-sides and peaks to relax on.

Hong Kong Population: 6,855,125!

While greeting, many lower their eyes as a sign of respect. It is rude to stare or hold eye contact for too long.

When attending small functions, it is polite to wait for your host to introduce you to others.

It is polite to address people by any honorific title they have, and their surname.

Culture in Hong Kong!

When visiting, bring sweets, fruit, or flowers. 

Don’t give red or white flowers, cutting utensils, clocks, handkerchiefs, straw sandals, green hats and don’t wrap gifts in white, blue or black paper. 

Gold and red are lucky colours, excellent gift wrapping.  

Don’t give odd numbers of presents, especially four. 

Giving eight of something is thought to be good fortune. 

Always give gifts with two hands.

Wait to be told where to sit cause there is often a seating plan.

It is polite to try everything. Never eat the last piece from the

serving tray. Wait for the host to eat, before

you start to eat. Refuse second servings at least

once to not seem greedy. When finished, don’t place your

chopsticks across the top of your bowl.

Main courses usually have rice or noodles.

Food is usually eaten with chopsticks.

Tea is the main drink. People eat 5 times a

day. Morning for breakfast, noon for lunch, 3pm for afternoon tea, evening for dinner, and 10pm for Siu Yeh (supper)

Famous Tourist Attractions…

Although being the smallest Disneyland it accommodates for almost all languages from French to Japanese.

It has four themed ‘lands’ which are Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland and Tommorowland. They are creating the Grizzly Trail, Mystic Point and Toy Story land.

Disney Land! Disneyland is on Lantau

Island and is heaps of fun. It was opened in 2005 and has already seen over 15 million people enter.

Famous Tourist Attractions…

The Giant Buddha or Tian Tan Buddha, is on Lantau Island.

This massive bronze statue sits on a throne that takes 268 steps to reach. It was made in 1993, is 34 metres tall and weighs 250 tons! It is surrounded by six smaller statues that offer flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha.

Ocean Park is the largest amusement park in Asia.

It provides exciting entertainment, education and also conservation facilities for a number of endangered species.

It holds many animals, not only marine, like bird aviaries and butterfly parks. It also has rides like roller coasters and Ferris Wheels. Great for all ages, tourists can enjoy the views and the animals or rides.

The ‘New’ garden is in the west and has many mammals and reptiles on display.

Zoological and Botanical Garden! The Zoological and Botanical

Garden is situated on the northern slope of Victoria Peak. It has great gardens and zoological exhibits.

The Eastern part of the garden is known as the Old Garden and has a playground, aviary, green house and fountain terrace garden.
