1.1 Underpinning government guidance and adopted constructs

The government’s aim, and ours, is to have all pupils back at school in the autumn. We will implement the government guidance in detail and to the letter.

Schools must comply with health and safety law, which requires them to assess risks and put in place proportionate control measures. This plan is also

guided by the essential adherence to the controls published by SAGE and set out under Section 1 of the guidance. Specifically:

Prevention:

1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their

household who does, do not attend school

2) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual

3) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach

4) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach

5) minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible

6) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Numbers 1 to 4 must be in place in all schools, all the time.

Number 5 must be properly considered and schools must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances.

Number 6 applies in specific circumstances.

Response to any infection:

7) engage with the NHS Test and Trace process

8) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the school community

9) contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

Numbers 7 to 9 must be followed in every case where they are relevant.

The measures set out in the guidance provide a framework for school leaders to put in place proportionate protective measures for children and staff,

which also ensure that all pupils receive a high quality education that enables them to thrive and progress. In welcoming all children back this autumn,

schools will be asked to minimise the number of contacts that a pupil has during the school day as part of implementing the system of controls outlined

above to reduce the risk of transmission.

1.2 Rationale for chosen plan

Having reviewed the guidance above (and further guidance from professional associations and the local authority) the chosen solution has the following

benefits:

Adheres to all health and safety controls

Maintains the integrity of the curriculum which ensures that the curriculum is broad and ambitious

Retains the existing timetable and thus promotes continuity moving forward

Ensures subject specialist teachers are utilised across the curriculum to provide a quality learning experience.

Largely retains the school day which is familiar to students

Retains the ability to revert to remote education in a sustainable and effective way should this be required by the local and national context.

Logistically straight forward and supported by existing operating systems which would support an easy reversion to normal operating procedures

when the time comes.

1.3 Preparation of the site for wider-opening

Numerous premises checks are required in schools throughout the year. Premises checks include:

statutory checks and thorough examinations such as water system safety testing, emergency lighting and lifting equipment checks.

management checks such as inspections of work equipment (ladders), school curriculum equipment (PE equipment) and premises features (fire

doors/playgrounds)

The Wilnecote School has remained open to vulnerable and key worker children since the beginning of lockdown on March 23rd and site supervision staff

have maintained daily working practices in line with the DfE guidance Managing school premises, which are partially open, during the coronavirus outbreak

Therefore inspections and checks have continued and will continue as full opening commences.

1.4 Consultation and communication with stakeholders

Consultation: Staff and professional association representatives have been fully involved in the planning process through remote meetings, briefing

documents and feedback via Heads of Department/Line Managers.

Communication: Parents will be informed by letter and will be signposted to both the plan and risk assessment on the website. All staff will receive a copy

of this plan including all appendices and the signed-off risk assessment.

Professional associations representatives are invited to carry out a health and safety inspection prior to the school being reopened if they wish to do so.

1.5 Shared workplace

The school building is shared with Wilnecote Library and Wilnecote Leisure Centre. The library is currently closed with no existing plans to reopen before

September. Revised opening hours will be negotiated to ensure there is no overlap between school and library times. The Leisure Centre is closed at the

time of writing but the government has announced that it can reopen from 25th July. The opening times of the Leisure Centre are separate to those of the

school site so a division can be maintained. In the event of reopening the Facilities and Operations Manage (FOM) will agree safe working arrangements

which minimise risks for school staff and students and others across the site. Other employers working on the site must share their COVID-19 workplace

risk assessment with our setting so that FOM can co-operate and co-ordinate arrangements.

N.B. In keeping with the control of minimising contact parents/carers will only be allowed on site if they have a pre-

arranged appointment with a member of staff. In addition the site will not be accessible to cars throughout the school

day due to the revised one –way system meaning that students may move around outside the building.

2.1 Student grouping, zoning and rooming

Grouping:

Consistent groups reduce the risk of transmission by limiting the number of pupils and staff in contact with each other to only those within the group. The

existing year cohorts will act as our consistent groups or bubbles. They will be taught in their existing groups within the year cohort. Staff will move around

the building to teach the year cohorts in their designated zones.

Zoning:

Each year group has been assigned a zone in the school where they will remain for all lessons. (with the exception of KS4 subjects which require specialist

rooms or equipment – please see below) Please see the Table 1 below and the map in Appendix A. These zones will be demarcated by the use of closed

doors or barriers with appropriate and bold signage to dissuade access by unauthorised students. Each year group zone has a separate entry/exit point to

the building, a set of discrete toilets, a first-aid room and marked fire exits. Key Stage 3 Students do not exit from the zone for lessons (except PE) but can

access the restaurant and designated outside space during the scheduled break time which is specific to the year cohort. Key stage 4 students will exit the

zone for designated break and lunchtime and PE but may also be able to use specialist rooms to enable them to access the whole curriculum and complete

all components of exam specifications. This will be done under strict protocols to minimise mixing between cohorts.

Rooming:

The number of rooms allocated within the year cohort zone is in keeping with the maximum number of groups required in each period. We have prioritised

Science for Key Stage 4 and placed these two year cohorts in Science labs to ensure access to specialist rooms and equipment. For Key Stage 3 & 4 PE and

Key Stage 4 subjects requiring specialist equipment and/or rooms, students may access other areas of the building but according to strict operating

procedures. Teachers must collect students from the base room in the year cohort zone and walk them to the specialist room using prescribed routes at an

appropriate time within the lesson and return the group to the base room before the end of the lesson. Specialist rooms such as IT will be allocated to a

specific year cohort to reduce the possibility of transmission through equipment.

Groupings beyond the Year Cohort:

The guidance is clear that both the approaches of separating groups and maintaining distance are not ‘all-or-nothing’ options, and will still bring benefits

even if implemented partially. In order to provide effective pastoral support, support for SEND and to maintain our behaviour system there may be times

when small mixed groups are necessary. We will therefore designate a suite of rooms at the far end of both MFL corridors to Pastoral/Inclusion and SEND

support. The doors will be closed and students will only be able to enter with a member of staff. Given the children may be coming from different year

groups strict social distancing rules will apply in this area and signage will remind people entering The same strict social-distancing rules will apply in the

Consequence Room and detentions will adopt both a year cohort zoning system and social-distancing. These are the only context in which students may

mix outside of their year group cohort.

2.2 Our curriculum offer

The government has stated that the key principles for curriculum planning are:

education is not optional: all pupils receive a high-quality education that promotes their development and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

the curriculum remains broad and ambitious: all pupils continue to be taught a wide range of subjects, maintaining their choices for further study and employment.

remote education, where needed, is high quality and aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision: schools and other settings continue to build their capability to educate pupils remotely, where this is needed.

Our plan ensures that these principles are met. By maintaining the integrity of the existing timetable for the academic year 2020-2021 and ensuring the

deployment of specialist teachers no student will be at a detriment in terms of curriculum. There will be no suspension of any subjects. The offer remains

the same as it would be in normal times.

Extra-curricular provision is suspended, pending review.

If, due to a change in the local or national context, the school is forced to close to either a year cohort or fully, we will use our remote learning operation

and maintain access to the existing timetable to ensure it aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision.

2.3 Timings of the school day

Where students are moving around the building to lunch or break, specific routes will be in operation to minimise contact between bubbles. These routes

can be found on the map and will be relayed to staff and students. Senior staff will manage these times.

2.4 Student attendance and expectations

School attendance will be mandatory again from the beginning of the autumn term. This means from that point, the usual rules on school attendance will

apply, including:

parents’ duty to secure that their child attends regularly at school where the child is a registered pupil at school and they are of compulsory school

age;

schools’ responsibilities to record attendance and follow up absence

the availability to issue sanctions, including fixed penalty notices in line with local authorities’ codes of conduct

Shielding advice for all adults and children will pause on 1 August, subject to a continued decline in the rates of community transmission of coronavirus

(COVID-19).

The school will revert to its existing attendance policy and parents/carers will be informed of our expectations. I.e. that attendance is mandatory

and that our Attendance Office should be informed of the absence in line with normal procedure. Our Attendance Officer or a Pastoral House

Manager will make a follow up call, if necessary

The school will communicate the importance of Control 1 - minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have

coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school – to parents/carers and all

stakeholders

Where a pupil is unable to attend school because they are complying with clinical and/or public health advice, we will immediately offer them

access to remote education and will monitor engagement with this activity.

If anyone in the school becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of

taste or smell (anosmia), they will be sent home and are advised to follow ‘stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed

coronavirus (COVID-19) infection’, which sets out that they must self-isolate for at least 7 days and should arrange to have a test to see if they have

coronavirus (COVID-19). Other members of their household (including any siblings) should self-isolate for 14 days from when the symptomatic

person first had symptoms.

Our high expectations relating to behaviour and standards will remain in place and our policies have not changed.

Students are expected to wear full school uniform (see policy)

Students are expected to come with the necessary equipment (see guidance)

Students are expected to demonstrate exemplary behaviour in school, both in lessons and around the school site and on their way to and from

school.

We recognise that the past few months have been extremely challenging for the community and the young people it serves and that coming back into a

school environment may not be easy for some. However, in order to provide a safe and orderly environment for all, it is vital that we all work together with

young people meeting our expectations around behaviour.

To support our students in their behaviour an addendum was made to the school’s behaviour policy in June 2020, part of which is reprinted here. The full

version can be found on the school’s website.

Deliberate behaviour choices that cause upset or put others at risk, whether malicious or for 'a joke', will not be tolerated and could result in exclusion.

Examples of such behaviours include:

Deliberately ignoring the social distancing measures put in place for the protection of all;

Refusal to wash hands and follow procedures when arriving and leaving the school site and during the time spent on it.

Any incident of spitting on school grounds, including at another pupil or member of staff;

Deliberately coughing at another pupil or member of staff or pretending to do so;

Behaviour or language that is intended to cause alarm or distress to staff or pupils about the current situation.

Truancy, or walking away from a member of staff in an environment in which social distancing and sanitation are in operation, is considered

potentially dangerous behaviour and will be sanctioned as such.

2.5 Staff attendance

Following the reduction in the prevalence of coronavirus (COVID-19) and relaxation of shielding measures from 1 August, we expect that staff will attend

school. Given that the school is applying the full measures in the guidance the risks to all staff will be mitigated significantly, including those who are

extremely clinically vulnerable and clinically vulnerable. We expect this will allow most staff to return to the workplace, although we advise those in the

most at risk categories to take particular care while community transmission rates continue to fall.

Staff must not come into the school if they have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or have tested positive in the last 7 days, and a member of staff

developing those symptoms during the school day will be sent home

If anyone in the school becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or

smell (anosmia), they will be sent home and advised to follow ‘stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19)

infection’, which sets out that they must self-isolate for at least 7 days and should arrange to have a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19). Other

members of their household (including any siblings) should self-isolate for 14 days from when the symptomatic person first had symptoms.

If a staff member is unable to attend school due to illness they must follow the normal policy and procedure in informing the Cover Manager, give a full

account of their symptoms and respond to the questions the Cover manager may ask to ensure that the school minimises the risk of transmission.

2.6 Staffing requirements, staff training, expectations and wellbeing

The following information and training opportunities will take place:

Staff will receive this completed plan and e-briefings will support reading and understanding of the document. As a result, they will understand that

the plan adheres to Controls 1-6 set out in the guidance.

The full staff meeting on Tuesday 1st September will include a significant item on face-to-face training of staff in the protocols and ensuring the

methods for:

- Controlling the transmission of the disease: minimising contact with children and adults who are unwell by ensuring that those who have

coronavirus symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school and minimise contact between individuals

and maintain social distancing wherever possible

- Management and control through personal hygiene: cleaning hands more often than usual - wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with

running water and soap and dry them thoroughly or use alcohol hand rub or sanitiser ensuring that all parts of the hands are covered.

- Ensuring good respiratory hygiene: promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.

Staff must continually act as models in terms of the activities around infection control i.e. social distancing and handwashing.

We have taken positive steps to manage the wellbeing of all staff, including senior leaders themselves through direct consultation with teams, groups of

staff and individual members of staff. The working practices in the plan are in keeping with normal workload requirements and promote good work-life

balance and support the wellbeing of teachers and leaders. Adjustments to support the physical and mental wellbeing required as a result of changing

practices in the plan can be seen in the section below.

2.7 Adjustments to teaching venues and for movement around the building

Appropriate amendments and additions will be made to the venues to comply with all guidance. – Please see Section 2.8 Extraordinary Operating

Procedures

Rooms will be set out in keeping with the guidance and with physical reminders for social distancing to be applied. Appropriate hygiene equipment such as

sanitiser and wipes will be in every classroom as well as the introduction of fixed sanitiser units around the building. Staff will receive equipment to support

them moving around the building and to reduce the transmission of the virus. This may include a trolley (if requested) for transporting their equipment

around the school and will include their own whiteboard pen.

2.8 Extraordinary Operating Procedures

2.9 Provision of First Aid

First aid personnel will continue in their role and will receive enhanced training in Covid-19 related measures.

If anyone in the school becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or

smell (anosmia), they must be sent home and advised to follow ‘stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19)

infection’, which sets out that they must self-isolate for at least 7 days and should arrange to have a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19). Other

members of their household (including any siblings) should self-isolate for 14 days from when the symptomatic person first had symptoms.

If a child is awaiting collection, they should be moved, if possible, to the designated First Aid room for their zone, where they can be isolated behind a

closed door, depending on the age and needs of the child, with appropriate adult supervision if required. Ideally, a window should be opened for

ventilation. If it is not possible to isolate them, we will move them to an area which is at least 2 metres away from other people.

If they need to go to the bathroom while waiting to be collected, they should use a separate bathroom if possible. The bathroom must be cleaned and

disinfected using standard cleaning products before being used by anyone else.

Staff must follow the procedures in Appendix B – EOPS Plan – sections 14

2.10 Enhanced cleaning protocols

At the time of writing the updated protocols for cleaning have yet to be published. However, there has already been significant liaison with Chartwells

cleaning service who are our outsourced provider. They currently follow the cleaning regimes and guidance in the government COVID-19: cleaning of non-

healthcare settings guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-decontamination-in-non-healthcare-settings this includes cleaning

surfaces that anyone is touching, such as resources, books, desks and tables, chairs, doors, sinks, toilets, light switches, bannisters, more regularly than

normal. This work is currently focused on those venues accessed by the key worker/vulnerable student group and Year 10 group but will be extended from

Tuesday 2nd September to the venues listed in this plan with increased staffing.

2.11 Response to infection

The school will support Controls 7-9 of the guidance through:

Engaging with the NHS Track and Trace process and informing staff and parents of the process

Managing confirmed cases of Covid-19 amongst the school community in line with local guidance and via the local Health Protection Team

Containing any outbreak by following local Health Protection Team advice.

2.12 Emergencies and accidents

In an emergency, for example, an accident or fire, people do not have to stay 2m apart if it would be unsafe to do so. The fire and emergency arrangements

for school remain in place.

Accidents should be reported and investigated in the normal way.

3.1 Ongoing review and evaluation of provision

The implementation of this plan from 2nd September 2020 is dependent on the national and local situation and the successful signing-off of the plan and

risk assessment by the Trustees of the Community Academies Trust.

TITLE : Delivery of Full School Reopening September 2020

1.) Student Arrival (Year Seven, Eight and Nine)

1.1 Students will arrive on to site using the Tinkers Green Road entrance; only. Please Note: Entrances will be used by specific age groups therefore Year 7’s, 8’s and 9’s should not enter

through the Hockley Road Entrance.

1.2 Staff will “Meet and Greet” students at the gate to welcome them to site and ensure social

distancing measures are communicated, understood and being followed.

1.3 There will only be vehicular access at the start of the day for those students with access

needs and written permission must be given for this. The school gates will be shut from

8:00am until 9am and a member of staff will be located at the gate during these times.

1.4 The pathway leading from the school gate to the car park areas will be marked, to clearly

demonstrate social distancing requirements. This is because three different bubbles will use this

gate and we therefore need to ensure these bubbles do not come within 2 meters of each other where possible. 1.5 At the entrance to the car parking area there will be three segregated paths for use by

pedestrians only.

1.5.1 Year Seven will use the path way on the left hand side.

1.5.2 Year Eight will use the path in the middle leading past the Library entrance.

1.5.3 Year Nine will use the path on the right hand side

Please Note it will be communicated to parents that there is limited bike shed access. Year 7 will have an area of

the bottom courts to utilise. Year 8 will have another area in front of room 46. Year 9 will have access to the bike

sheds.

1.6 These segregated paths will lead to the appropriate entrance for each year group:

1.6.1 Year Seven will enter through the Library Corridor Entrance.

1.6.2 Year Eight will enter through the Humanities Entrance.

1.6.3 Year Nine will enter through the Bike Shed Entrance. (Please Note in normal school

operation this is a Fire Exit but will be utilised as the most appropriate route to the Year 9 Zone

in school) 1.7 Students will be able to enter the building from 7:50am until 8:30am

1.8 Upon entering the building students must immediately remove any face coverings and

store it appropriately in their own possession and hand sanitise. Stations will be located

at all entrances to ensure access to be as quick as possible.

Please Note: Students will be assigned their classrooms prior to arrival, there will be clear signage and staff on duty

will know where to direct students.

1.9 Signage on the corridor will be used to communicate:

1.10 Equipment including stationary and water bottles must be put onto the desk, bags

must be stored on the floor under their desk. Coats should be stored on the back of their

chair.

1.11 Students who forget equipment will be given a Stationary Set and this will be

chargeable via Parentpay.

1.12 Students will remain in their designated classroom for the majority of their day, the

exceptions are break time, lunchtime, Maths lessons and some practical lessons where

they can be delivered in a subject specific classroom where the timetable allows this to

be delivered safely.

2.) Student Arrival (Year Ten and Eleven)

operation this is a Fire Exit but will be utilised as the most appropriate route to the Year 10 Zone in school) 2.5.2 Year Eleven will enter through the Rear Entrance.

2.6 Students will be able to enter the building from 7:50am until 8:30am

2.7 Upon entering the building students must immediately hand sanitise. Stations will be located

their classrooms prior to arrival, there will be clear signage and staff on duty will know where to direct students.

3.) Zones

4.) Use of Toilets

4.1 With the exception of the Humanities toilets all toilet blocks will be used by specific year

groups within their zones.

4.2 Toilet use will be restricted where possible to during break time and lunch time and this

should be completed on the way to the students break time/lunch time location rather

than during or the end of these sessions to minimise the potential for bubbles to mix.

4.3 Within the toilets there will be signage to demonstrate:

4.3.1 Handwashing Instructions

4.3.2 Catch it Kill It Bin It protocol.

4.4 Cleaning staff will be onsite to clean the toilets/sinks etc. regularly. Shared toilets will be

even more regularly cleaned especially around break and lunchtimes.

4.5 Cleaning Staff and Site Staff will be responsible for regular checking of the provisions

within all of the toilets e.g.

4.5.1 Toilet Roll

4.5.2 Soap

4.5.3 Hot Water

4.5.4 Paper Towels (Where required as the use of Hand Dyers will be promoted)

5.) Break times and Lunchtimes

5.1 Break times will increase from 15 minutes to 25 minutes allowing student and staff a

longer than usual break time allowing for the increased logistical procedures.

5.2 Break times will be staggered allowing a maximum of two year groups to be out at any

one time.

5.3 Period two of the school day will be elongated to allow for the normal lesson, 15 minutes

of PSHE time and a 25-minute break to take place.

5.3.1 Year 9 and 11

9:30am until 9:45am – PSHE Time

9:45am until 10:10am – Break Time

10:10am until 11:10am – Lesson Time

12:10am until 12:40pm – Lunch

5.3.2 Year 7

9:30am until 10:15am – Lesson Part One

10:15am until 10:40am – Break Time

10:40am until 10:55am – Lesson Part Two

10:55am until 11:10am – PSHE Time

12:40pm until 1:10pm – Lunch

5.3.3 Year 8 and 10

9:30am until 10:30am – Lesson

10:30am until 10:45am – PSHE Time

10:45am until 11:10am – Break

1:10pm until 1:40pm – Lunch

5.4 The teacher for period 2 will wait for the staff member on duty to dismiss their class to

ensure congestion on the corridor is minimised.

5.5 Lunchtimes will remain staggered and in three 30 minute sessions. Year groups will use

the same eating area and playground area as they do at break time.

5.6 Staff will dismiss their class for lunchtime at the appropriate time.

5.7 Students will then be responsible for making their way to their designated serving

area/eating/playground area using the specified route ONLY and ensuring they use toilets

on the way to these areas ONLY. Toilets can only be used on the way to break time and

lunch time due to the one way routes used.

5.8 Students will be given a designated eating area and a designated external area. This

includes the back courts being used as a playground and the route to the back playground

will include travelling through the memorial garden, students will not congregate in the

memorial garden they must walk from the building to the play area only.

5.9 The designated areas will be clearly defined and students will receive consequences if they

are found outside for these areas.

5.10 Students will not have to socially distance during their break or lunchtimes but no

sports can take place and behaviour must remain appropriate. Contact between students

will not be allowed.

5.11 Students must follow the one-way system for their zone and once they leave the

building they will be unable to return i.e. they cannot go to the playground and then return

to purchase items from the canteen or use the toilets.

5.12 Students must remain in these areas during break time and must return to their

classrooms when instructed by staff (or a bell if utilised)

5.13 At the end of break time and lunch time all year groups will return into the building

through their designated entrance/exit i.e. the same one they use at the start of the day.

5.14 All students will have to hand sanitise as they enter eating areas and as they re-enter

the building.

5.15 At the end of break time and lunchtime, students should wait outside of their

designated classroom for their teacher to return, staff on duty will supervise the students

whilst teachers arrive.

6.) Class Changeovers

6.1 It is not expected that Years 7,8,9 will have to change classroom for many subjects. The

majority of lessons will be taught to mixed ability groups. Maths will be taught to ability

groups and PE will take place in the PE dept. Other subjects which would ideally be taught

in subject specific room will normally be taught in the Year Group Zones but where safe

to do so and the timetable allows subject specific rooms will be used.

6.2 Years 10 and 11 will be taught in ability and options groups and will therefore move

between the majority of lessons.

6.3 All corridors will have to work as two way corridors however students must walk around

the corridor in a clockwise direction and in single file keeping as close to their left hand

wall as possible. This may mean some students have to walk further than would normally

be necessary however this will ensure corridors remain organised and students only pass

each other very briefly. Where possible these corridors will have a length that would allow

the maximum amount of students to be out of the room however common sense must

be used and when safe to do so the quickest route maybe used.

6.4 Students should be able to enter the classroom as soon as they arrive and will not have to

wait for their teacher to arrive.

6.5 Staff

7.) PE Lesson

7.1 When students have PE they will have to make their way to a designated collection point

within their zone. This will normally be a specific classroom but based on the timetable

this may have to be another location for logistical reasons. This will be clearly

communicated to all year groups.

7.2 Students will be collected by their PE teacher who will walk them to their lesson/changing

venue.

7.3 Students will get changed in a designated room however this may not be a changing room.

7.4 PE Lessons will take place for a shorter period of time than usual to allow for the logistical

changes.

7.5 At this time the exact guidance for how PE lessons can operate is subject to change and

when confirmed this element of this document will be updated.

7.6 At the end of their PE lessons students will be lead back to their Zone by the PE dept. This

will usually be by a defined route but this will be based on timetable for example if Year

11 have PE during period three they would be able to make their way to the dining

room/canteen rather than all the way to their zone and if any year group has PE during

Period 5 they will be allowed to leave from PE but will have to make their way to the

correct gate/exit at the correct time.

8.) End of Day for Students

8.1 The school day will end between 2:30pm and 2:50pm. This slight staggering is to allow

year groups to leave the site with as little amount of congestion as possible:

8.1.1 Year 7: Leave at 2:30pm

8.1.2 Year 8 and 10: Leave at 2:40pm

8.1.3 Year 9 and 11: Leave at 2:50pm

8.2 A bell will sound to let the Classroom teacher know when it is time for their class to leave.

8.3 Students will have to remain socially distant from those in other year groups on site and

the need for this to continue off site will be communicated to parents and students.

8.4 There will be staff located outside of the school building to help supervise and control the

groups as they leave.

8.5 There will only be vehicular access at the end of the day for those students with access

needs and written permission must be given for this. The school gates will be shut from

2:15pm until 3:15pm

9.) If a Student Presents Coronavirus Symptoms and/or is unwell.

9.1 Parents, Carers and Students will receive communication that will state that nobody

should be coming on to site if:

9.1.1 They have Coronavirus Symptoms

9.1.2 They live in the same household as someone who has Coronavirus symptoms.

9.1.3 They have been contacted by the Governments Track and Trace programme

and informed they have been in close contact with someone who has tested

positive.

9.2 If a student does present symptoms or they disclose information in relation to 9.1, their

classroom teacher must ask them to make their way to their designated Safe Room.

9.2.1 Year 7: Room 46

9.2.2 Year 8: Community Room

9.2.3 Year 9: Room 37

9.2.4 Year 10: Room 22

9.2.5 Year 11: Room 28

9.3 The Classroom teacher will then contact the member of staff on duty.

9.4 The students’ parents will be contacted and informed about their child and informed that

the student must either walk home or be picked up immediately.

9.5 The student will remain inside their Safe Room until they can be collected.

9.6 The Safe Rooms will have space for 10 students.

9.7 The result of a child who is confirmed with having a case of Covid-19 will be based on

consultation with Public Health about that specific situation. Staff and Students who may

be affected will be communicated with.

10.) Access to Additional Rooms

10.1 Access to these alternative rooms will be limited but utilised where possible.

10.2 Students will be collected from their Zones by their subject teacher who will lead them

to their subject specific room.

10.3 All rooms will be cleaned by the cleaning contractor but as an additional control

measure, wipes will be provided for students to clean equipment they use before and

after their use.

10.4 Some subject areas may be able to have specific equipment for specific year groups

but even this should be cleaned as stated in 10.3.

10.5 Lessons in subject specific rooms will have to be designed to be shorter to allow for

the movement of students to and from their Zone.

11.) Staff

11.1 Staff will have to park in the front car park, in front of the main building, the library or

the bottom courts will be used as overspill. There will be 4 designated spaces for visitors

directly outside of the Library entrance.

11.2 Access to the building will be via the main entrance. Staff must use the hand sanitiser

provided or use the accessible toilet to wash their hands upon arrival.

11.3 Staff must use their card to sign in but if there is any issue with the Inventry System

they must tell the reception staff and not touch the Inventry Screen.

11.4 Staff should bring their own refreshments but will have access to the staff room and

the Library Office if required. If equipment is used i.e. kettle, fridge etc. it should be wiped

before and after use. Where possible cutlery and plates should not be shared and must

be cleaned immediately after use.

11.5 All belongings must be removed from the Staff Room.

11.6 The Common Room will be set up as a socially distanced staff room to allow staff to

socialise and work if required. The area will have designated work stations and social

areas.

11.7 Teaching Staff will be expected to move from classroom to classroom to deliver their

lessons and therefore consideration must be given to how they will transport equipment

etc.

11.8 Staff will be expected to maintain social distance from other staff, students and

visitors in line with Government Guidance at the time. See 12. Classrooms for how this

will take place within the classroom environment.

11.9 Teaching staff will arrive at lessons after the timetabled start time due to the logistical

implications of moving around the building. Rooms will be left open for classes to enter

as soon as possible to minimise congestion on the corridor. Rooms should be left safe but

there will be an emphasis on good behaviour from the students whilst alone in those

rooms.

11.10 Staff will have access to a limited number of toilets due to the need for the main toilet

blocks to be used by students. Staff toilets will be:

11.10.1 Accessible Toilet in Reception

11.10.2 Accessible Toilet opposite Room 10a

11.10.3 Accessible toilet opposite Room 9

11.10.4 Accessible Toilet in Library (shared with visitors)

11.10.5 Leisure Toilets.

11.11 Teaching Staff, TA’s and other designated staff will have access to their own Individual

Pack including:

11.11.1 Hand Sanitiser

11.11.2 PPE (Gloves, Apron, Visor, Mask)

11.11.3 Wipes

11.11.4 Viewsonic Board Pen (Teaching Staff Only)

11.12 Staff will leave through the current main entrance.

12.) Classrooms

12.1 Classrooms will be set up to maximise health and safety.

12.2 Students will be sat in rows facing toward the front of the classroom.

12.3 Staff will be based 2m away from the front row of students and a zone for teachers

will be marked on the floor.

12.4 Each Classroom will include tissues and a lidded bin to promote “Catch It, Bin It, Kill

It.

12.5 Each Classroom will have a set of Multifunctional wipes to help staff ensure areas of

concern can be regularly and appropriately wiped down.

12.6 Each classroom will be located within close proximity of a member of staff on duty to

allow clear communication. Where this is an issue for example because Room 5 is so far

from the English corridor radios will be used.

13.) Lesson Change Over

13.1 Within the final five minutes of a lesson staff ask their students to pack away.

13.2 Whilst students are packing away staff collect their belongings ensuring they are ready

to move to their next location before making their way the doorway.

13.3 All staff will know when each group is ready as staff members will be in their doorway.

If any staff member does not arrive the closest member of staff will move to that room to

ensure all is ok.

13.4 On each corridor there will be an order in which rooms release, this is done by the

staff member leaving the rooms and instructing their class to move to their next room. The specifics about each corridor will be communicated at a later date, when the timetable is completed.

13.5 Within each period a designated member of staff will be the last teacher on the

corridor and they will monitor behaviour. They will wait until the first teacher for the

following period arrives.

13.6 All other teachers will make their way to their next lesson.

13.7 Students will move around their Zone in a clockwise direction in single file ensuring

there is no unnecessary crossing.

13.8 This release of rooms should minimise the need for queuing but if required the whole

group will wait until a certain room is ready to be entered. The member of staff on the

corridor will be able to supervise.

13.9 If the period will require a class to move to a subject specific room they will still be

allocated a room in their zone from which they can be collected and then returned by the

subject specific teacher.

14.) First Aid

14.1 There will always be two designated first aiders at any one time. When a first aider is

on duty they will have access to a radio or reception will know who is on call and can

contact them.

14.2 First Aiders will not always be able to respond to immediately, if the concern is related

to Co-vid then let reception know so that they can contact other staff members who will

be able to respond.

14.3 When called to an incident the First Aider must wash their hands on the way to any

First Aid emergency.

14.4 Based on the situation the First Aider can choose to speak to the person in need of

first aid from a 2m distance initially or they can Don PPE before interacting with the

person.

14.5 The First Aider will have PPE available in the first aid rooms located within each zone

(as detailed in 3. Zones; they will have access to:

14.5.1 Gloves

14.5.5 First Aid Kit.

14.5.6 Hand Sanitiser and/or a sink

14.6 If the First Aid situation means the person cannot leave their classroom, the

Classroom Teacher with the support of a member of the Leadership Team will move the

remainder of the class to an alternative room within their zone.

14.7 The First Aider can contact the second First Aider on site for assistance if required.

14.8 Normal First Aid should be administered with the exception of CPR where only

compressions should be used in most cases. If the First Aider believes rescue breathes are

required appropriate face shields should be worn.

14.9 Once a First Aid situation has been dealt with the First Aider should go to the First Aid

Room and Doff their PPE as instructed into the appropriate bins.

14.10 Accidents should be reported to the Operations and Facilities Manager either verbally

or via email or via Smartlog. The normal Accident book does not need to be completed by

the First Aider.

15. Emergency Evacuation

15.1 The Evacuation Alarm will remain as a long continuous bell.

15.2 If the Alarm is sounded getting staff and students out of the building and into

a safe area is the priority. Therefore, Social Distancing should only be maintained if it

is safe to do so during the evacuation.

15.3 Students will move to the following areas:

15.3.1 Year 7: Top Courts (Right Hand side as you look from school building)

Using Exit at end of Library Corridor/ Main Entrance.

15.3.2 Year 8: Top Courts (Left Hand side as you look from school building)

Using Humanities Exit/Fire Exit to Bike Sheds.

15.3.3 Year 9: Top of Car Park/Playground (Next to mobile)

Using Fire Exit to Bike Sheds/Humanities Entrance.

15.3.4 Year 10 Back Courts (Far Fence as you look from Science Dept.)

Using Fire Exit in DT/Room 22 or Art Corridor Fire Exit/Back

Door.

15.3.5 Year 11: Back Courts (Closest Fence as you look from Science Dept.)

Using Back Door/Fire Exit at the end of SEND dept.

15.4 Within these areas the Year groups will be split into the English Classes and

there will be appropriate signs to demonstrate this. Staff members will be assigned a

class and will be responsible for that register during any evacuation.

15.5 Any students in the Safe Rooms will have to make their way to the area of car

park behind the garage allowing them to keep away from other students.

15.6 Members of the Pastoral and Inclusion Team alongside members of SLT will

be given responsibility for a year groups and must ensure the roll call registers are

completed and the appropriate staff are present.

15.7 A member of the Admin Team and/or a member of the Leadership team will

come to each group to record attendance.

15.8 No member of staff or student should return to the building unless instructed

to by a member of Leadership.

15.9 When students return to the building after an evacuation they must leave the

muster point one class at a time, maintain social distancing, return through their

designated entrance and hand sanitise before they return to the classroom.

15.9.1 Years 9 and 11 will return first.

15.9.2 Year 10 will follow once Year 11 have left the court.

15.9.3 Year 8 will follow Year 9

15.9.4 Year 7 will follow year 8

16. Visitor and Supply Staff protocols

16.1 No visitors should come to site without an appointment

16.2 Gates will be closed to restrict access throughout the school day.

16.3 All visitors/supply staff should send their organisations COVID-19 workplace

risk assessments in advance of their arrival which must be agreed by The Wilnecote

School.

16.4 Supply staff/visitors will have to answer specific questions by staff on arrival

16.4.1 Supply staff will be greeted by the Cover Manager to answer further questions

and be shown the policy and procedures – both existing and Covid related.

16.5 All visitors even those not entering the building will have to sign in.
