Following the UN’s call to the world to develop strong stakeholder partnerships, using the culture and values at the core of materializing the SDGs as their guiding principles, this premier global event exists to ensure sustainability and build a solid foundation for the future.

Fira Barcelona commitment to 2030 Agenda’s SDG

At Fira Barcelona, we understand that an essential feature of the SDGs is the fact that they are interconnected, overlapping to forge a path towards the delivery of tangible and transformative benefits.

Our leading strategy is measure, mitigate, reduce and adapt. This will become a blueprint for gradually aligning all of Fira Barcelona’s trade with the SDGs, allowing us to assess our overall impact as an organization and adopt ways to effectively reduce it.

When it comes to sustainability, Fira Barcelona aims to lead by example. Towards Zero Waste is a dedicated sustainability initiative encompassing use of fewer materials, reuse and recycling of products, no food waste, and specific initiatives such as CO2 compensation and reforestation.

A sustainable future is an inclusive one. In 2019, Fira Barcelona put a name to an initiative that had in fact been in place for several years: Towards Inclusivity is a sequence of actions making sure that the organization’s events are inclusive and accessible to all, taking into account factors such as disability, gender and beliefs.

Barcelona City Council

A forward-thinking city, Barcelona City Council is committed to complying

with the 2030 Agenda. The institution is spearheading the transition towards the creation of a resilient, habitable city with

zero emissions and zero poverty by 2030.

Government of Spain

Spain is making waves in sustainability. According to the Sustainable Development Report 2019,

the country ranks 21st out of 162 nations in terms of implementation of the 17 SDGs, and the Government is committed to and involved in supporting and fulfilling

the aims of the 2030 Agenda.

Government of Catalonia

The interdepartmental Commission for the 2030 Agenda of the Generalitat, is already working in

the National Plan to implement the 2030 Agenda in Catalonia. The plan includes more than 900

commitments of the Catalan govermment to achive the 17SDGs, with commitments to reach within the

territory (88% of the total) and Catalonia towards the international community (12% of the total).

World Bank GroupThe World Bank Group can help catalyze the SDGs and

the rest of the 2030 agenda through thought leadership, global convening, and country-level uptake.

On thought leadership, a great deal of analytical rigor is required, and it is already underway, from the

World Development Indicators, to the Trajectories for Sustainable Development Report, and expected

adaptations to the Global Monitoring Report.

BforPlanet will be held alongside Innovate4Climate, the preeminent global event on climate finance, climate investment and climate markets. Organized by the World Bank platform, I4C brings together business, finance, policy and technology leaders to accelerate action on financing climate-smart development.
