PLANET COSTUME Supplies*: • Large piece of foam (found at local craft or fabric store), or large sheet of cardboard from an appliance box • Acrylic paint (orange, brown, yellow) • Paint tray and roller • White and orange spray paint • Utility knife • Orange gloves • White poster board • Coloured markers • Styrofoam balls • Glue *Remember, these are only suggestions. These decorations should be fun and creative, so use whatever supplies you have on-hand for substitutions. Directions: 1. Using a utility knife, cut the foam or cardboard into a round planet shape. If necessary to achieve size, glue several pieces of foam or cardboard together. 2. Using a utility knife, cut openings into the planet for a person’s head and hands. (For safety purposes, we recommend wearing leather gloves when using the utility knife. Never leave the utility knife where children can pick it up.) 3. Using a paint roller, paint the planet orange-brown. Once dry, use the white and orange spray paint to add some striped bands. Use the photo as a reference. 4. Create a sign with the white poster board and markers. Cut the styrofoam balls in half and glue them to the sign to add dimension. 5. Have a volunteer wear the costume and hold the sign to advertise the Book Fair at the pickup/drop- off area at your school.

SPACE COSTUMESupplies*:• Springy ball headband (found at party store)• 1 metre of silver fabric (adjust yardage for sizing)• Elastic• Silver duct tape• Silver bubble wrap insulation (found at home improvement store)• Black/grey shirt and tights• Silver spray paint• Hula-Hoop• Silver duct tape• Chunky shoes• Funky glasses (optional)• Glitter baton/wand

*Remember, these are only suggestions. These decorations should be fun and creative, so use whatever supplies you have on-hand for substitutions.

Directions:1. Along both of the long sides of the silver fabric, fold the edges over 5cm and sew to form two channels.2. Sew the short edges of the fabric together, stopping short of the channels that you just made. Flip right side out.3. In one fabric channel, insert a piece of elastic approximately 50cm long. Tie a knot in the elastic to form the neck hole.4. In the other fabric channel, open the circle of the Hula-Hoop and insert the hoop into the fabric. Once inside, reattach the hoop and secure with tape.5. Approximately 15cm below the neck hole, cut two arm holes 15cm wide. Reinforce the fabric around the arm holes with silver duct tape to avoid tearing.

6. From the silver bubble wrap, cut a v-neck shape collar that will fit over a person’s head. Cut a long thin rectangle for a belt. Secure belt with silver duct tape.7. Spray paint a pair of old chunky shoes with the silver spray paint. Let dry.8. Put on the tights, shirt, and silver hoop dress. Add the neck collar, belt, headband, some funky glasses, silver shoes, and glittery baton wand.
