Map Overview The interactive map will open to a temporary screen. Click “Ok” to close that screen and view the map, similar to the image below. The following is a list of available tools, which are used to navigate the map and find information – see the corresponding sections on pages 3-5 for details and instruction.

1. Content – Click the Content icon to open the Content menu and turn on/off layers

2. Basemaps – Click the Basemap Gallery icon to select the type of background you want to see

3. Extent tools – Zoom in and out, or return to the full extent showing the entire county

4. Search bar – Use the Search Bar to find a specific parcels, roads, etc.

5. Print – Click the Print button to open the print options and print a map

6. Measure tools – Click the Measurement button to open the measuring options menu

7. Popup Information: Click anywhere on the map to open the information window, which displays specific information for any visible layers

Content Use the Content tab to see available layers and adjust their visibility.

1. Checking or unchecking the box next to layer’s name will turn the layer on or off

2. If the layer’s name is greyed out you need to zoom in on the map to turn that layer’s visibility on

3. Clicking the arrow to the left of the checkbox will show addition information about that layer; symbology and/or additional sublayers

4. Clicking the . . . to the right of the layer name will show display options for that layer Basemap The Basemap is the background image of the map. It is supplied by Esri (not Google) and Bannock County has not control over the age or accuracy of the images. They are meant to be convenient backdrops to provide context and visual references.

1. The Basemap Gallery shows the options for background images

a. Most of the basemaps have some labels built into them (Imagery is the exception)

b. Each basemap has a different focus; what images & labels show will vary on the basemap and the extent (how zoomed in or out you are)

Extent

1. To Zoom in or out: a. Use the buttons on the screen b. Use the scroll wheel on the mouse c. Pinch or extend with your fingers (if using a mobile device)

2. Click the Home button to return the map to its original extent Search The Search bar consists of a drop-down arrow to limit categories, a text box to enter criteria, and button to initiate a search (which can also be done by hitting Enter/Return)

1. If no category is selected the search results will be displayed in groups, beginning with parcel

numbers: scroll through the options and click an entry to select it. 2. There are limits to the number of results that can be displayed; if results are missing select a

category to show more results in that section. 3. The map will zoom in to a selected entry and display is its information.

4. Searchable categories are: a. Parcels – by number, owner (last name, first name) or business name, or house number

(if there is a building on the property) i. If no other category is selected, the Search bar will begin its search with parcel

numbers, then move on to other parcel categories, then other categories ii. Suggestions based on parcel data will show as you type

iii. Hitting Enter/Return or clicking the search button will show results across all available categories

iv. If entering a house number, the section under “Addresses” will display street names; select which street the house is one to see that parcel’s information

b. Roads – by name c. Records of Survey & Subdivisions – by instrument number (must be an exact match) or

name Print Clicking the Print icon will open a print menu. “Printing” creates a file, usually in your browser. It does not have an option to print directly to a printer; you will need to use your browser to do that.

1. If nothing is changed the map will print with the shown default values

2. Clicking the “Print” button will begin creating your map; this may take a few minutes

3. When done a link will show (see below); click on it to open your map in another window

4. Click the “Clear prints” button to clear the links a. Closing the Print menu does not clear created links

Measurement The Measurement tool is used to draw on the map and returns values of the drawn figure.

1. The tool will draw areas, lines, or return coordinates of a point a. Click to start a measurement, values will change as the curser moves b. Double click to complete a set c. Clicking again after completing a set will delete it and begin a new set

2. Options appear on the right, and results display below

a. Areas: click on the map at a starting point and click to add corners b. Lines: click on the map at a starting point and click to change directions c. Coordinates: coordinates of the curser displays next to the curser icon; click to put

down a marker, its coordinates will appear next to the tag; multiple tags can be dropped

Popup Information Clicking on the map (with no tools selected) will bring up a popup window with information about any visible layers.

1. The information displayed depends on the layer

2. If more than one feature is within the selected area “x of x” will appear in the upper left corner

a. You can click through information windows by using the arrows in the upper right

b. Zoom to will center the selected feature and zoom in to its boundaries

c. The . . . in the lower right opens other options

d. The popup window can be expanded to a larger size
