On October 19, 2018, Long Beach community members participated in an in-the-field “walk audit” to discuss conditions along South St between Myrtle Ave and Linden Ave. Participants responded to a series of thematic and location-specific questions regarding building design, land-use, neighborhood character, and parking. The charts in this summary reflect participants’ written feedback on existing conditions, along with their suggestions for future improvements.The walk audit was held in Spanish.

Auditors felt that vacant lots and abandoned buildings detract from the neighborhood’s character.

• Increase the availability of affordable housing for the community and add green open spaces.• We like anything that improves the community and health of our city, for example, a civic center,

technical school, university, places to eat, etc.• Businesses need to be occupied. • There is a need for adult schools that offer community activities. • South street needs trees, as there is no shade. • Educational programs for people of all ages are needed.• The community would like to see more bike facilities, crosswalks, police, historical monuments, trees,
