Significance of the Study:

In this study, I learned the different planning principles during the Spanish pre-colonial and American period. It also informed me about how urban design and architecture played an essential role in the political propaganda and image of the Spanish Empire. And it also clarified my thought on how cities back then are classified according to their function, like port cities, where foreign trade is made its like Makati nowadays, and military port cities, secondary ports and anchorages, forts, inner plots, and cities in riversides. The study made me realize that the Spanish colonization process had ways of controlling the territories.

The study taught me that after the Spanish American war the architecture of the Philippines was dominated by the American style. In this period I learned how the plan for the modern city of Manila was designed, consisting of a large number of art deco buildings, by famous American and Filipino architects. And after this period I think, began the modern style of buildings in the Philippines. Planning had gone through different processes and classifications, different principles and theories brought about by different nations who colonized and influenced us, but I truly believe that the Philippines has its own take when in it comes to planning.
