INTRODUCTIONplant tissues are the tissues

formed of mature and non dividing cells which

are derived from the meristematic tissues by

growth and differnentiation .

Their cells have definite shape

size and function . Based on nature plant

tissues are classified into simple and complex

tissue.

simple tissues include

parenchyma , collenchyma , sclerenchyma, .

Complex tissues include xylem , phloem.

SIMPLE TISSUES

PARENCHYMA

it is the simplest and the least specialized tissue.

It forms the fundamental tissue or the ground tissue of the plant body.

It consist of polygonal and thin walled living cells with or without intercellular space.

Storage of reserve food materials such as starch, oils, fats, and proteins.

Helps in respiration and secretion.

It helps in the transport of materials.

PARENCHYMA

COLLENCHYMA It is formed of elongated thick walled and

terminally tapering cells.

Cell walls are non lignified , irregularly

thickened and formed of cellulose , and

pectin.

Protects leaves from tearing.

Serves as the chief supporting tissue .

Some cells possess chloroplasts and

carry out photosynthesis.

SCLERENCHYMA

It is the non living mechanical tissue found in

the cortex and vascular region of the stem,

leaves, fruit wall etc.

Cells are hard thick walled elastic dead and

devoid of living protoplast at maturity. They

differ in sixe, shape and origin .

Provide strength and support to the plant body.

Protects plant body from damages .

Sclereids of some nuts from a hard protective

shell.

XYLEM It is a conducting tissue of vascular

plants responsible for the upward

conduction of water and inorganic

solutes from roots.

Xylem is composed of both living and

dead cells.

Provide mechanical support by virtue of

their hard and firm secondary wall.

PHLOEM

It is the chief food conducting tissue of vascular

plants concerned with the translocation of

synthesized organic food from the centers of

their production to the regions of their

utilization.

It provide mechanical support and elasticity.

Storage of organic nutrients and other

substance in phloem parenchyma.

Translocation of organic nutrients such as

simple sugars complex carbohydrate and amino

acids.

CONCLUSION

These cells are very important in plant

growth and their sustainability .

It also helps the plants in many ways .

Important function of these tissues are

photosynthesis and support to the

plants.
