Hear Ye, Hear Ye – Independence Day! It was 244 years ago that the Continental Congress declared the inde-pendence of the 13 colonies (later to become the United States of America) from Great Britain rule. The Congress actually voted for the acceptance of the Declaration of Independence, originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson, on July 2nd, however, there were revisions made by other committee members and so it was not “declared” until July 4th, which is when Ameri-cans celebrate this all-important Federal holiday. This was no easy feat and was not without sacrifice as The American Revolution actually began in 1765 and did not end until 1783. “No taxation without representation” was a slogan that began even before The American Revolutionary War and was one of the main grievances of the colonists. Our forefathers wanted the states to be united, free and independent of the monarchy and
aristocracy of British rule. The very first anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence was celebrated with friends, family, food, 13-gun salutes, parades, and yes, fireworks. Fireworks have become the main symbol of our independence from Great Britain, with displays across the entire United States of America on July 4th every year. We wish all our residents of Plantation Village a very happy and safe 4th of July celebration.

FRANk FIELDS I am pleased to say that so far, the preventative measures that the residents and management have taken seem to be working. So far there have been no known cases of COVID-19 in the community. Keep up the good work because it is not over yet. The clubhouse and library will remain closed until the risk level is low enough that the Board feels it is okay to open them. Hopefully soon there will be some kind of vaccine so we can get back to some kind of normalcy. On another note, the community continues to grow and improve. Two more new homes were delivered in June and should be finished by the end of July or beginning of August. These new homes continue to raise the value of all the homes in the community by raising the desirability of Plantation Village to prospective new residents. The management continues to update the file on residents that have dogs to make sure that those that have them are supposed to. So far, with the exception of a few, everyone is complying and getting the documents that are needed. The manager is continuing to go around the community on certain days to look for rule violations and to remind residents if they have forgotten to take care of their lot and home as required. For the most part the residents are taking good care of their homes and a lot of residents are making upgrades that are beautifying their home and lot. Keep up the good work. We have a beautiful community. Hurricane season is upon us and we all need to prepare and have a plan. Don’t wait until a hurricane is on the way before figuring out who is going to put your awnings down or put outside furniture away. If you are going to evacuate, see if you can find someone that is going to stay and ask them to look after your home. It has been proven more than once that when things get tough the people in this community come together and look after one another. July is going to be a hot one. So stay hydrated and stay safe. As always, look out for your neighbor.

BARBARA DEARING Normally when we write our monthly articles for the Voice, we are discussing the events going on in the park and up-coming events, but unfortunately due to the coronavirus we haven’t had any events in the park since March. An annual summer event that I think we all look forward to is the July 4th Celebration and we will not be holding that event this year. We will, however, be having a Flag Raising Ceremony on the 4th of July at 8:30am at the clubhouse. Please join us for this inspiring event. In this extraordinary and uncertain period in our lives, we all are trying our best to navigate through these turbulent times. I know that there are sacrifices and challenges we all have had to face, but we will make it through this. I have two cousins who are nurses and a son-in-law who is an EMT and a firefighter, and the experiences that they have endured and shared with me have brought me to tears. My nurse cousin has shared with me that in order to get through the long hours and long days, she tries her best to get some rest and hydrate before going back to the battlefield. She said how heartbreaking it is to hold a phone up to a patient’s ear while they are saying their final good byes to their loved ones. I can’t even imagine how devastating both emotionally and physically that has to be. We should be especially grateful for the dedication and bravery of the first responders and the everyday heroes on the front lines of this crisis. Next year when they roll out the red carpet for the Oscars, the Tony Awards and the Country Music Awards, I think instead of the performers walking on that red carpet, it should be the first responders and the other heroes. I would like to end my article with a paragraph from a book I’m presently reading. This is a strategy that I have recently adopted into my own life. It’s a subtle reminder that everything ---- the good and bad, pleasure and pain, approval and disap-proval, achievements and mistakes, fame and shame ----- all come and go. Everything has a beginning and an ending and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I wish all PV family health and security.

Bingo Bulletinby Bill Thompson
Well, here we are again, another month has passed. We still have no bingo and neither does anyone else. It seems that all the parks are keeping their clubhouses closed so no one gets sick. I hope everyone is being safe and very careful when they go out. If and when we get the ok to have the clubhouse open, I will be sure to let you know as soon as I can. Remember if you need a mask when you go out, come by and pick one up. Stay safe and be well. ........ And always, HAPPY BINGOING !!!!!!!!!
Potluck Corner by Derissa Atlakson
Hope you all are doing well! What a time this has been. Pot-luck season will hopefully be able to start back up in Septem-ber. We will stay on top of this and continue to monitor whether we will be able to do this. Safety for all is the main concern. Maybe during this time get some of those old cookbooks out and find some new recipes you‘ll want to try out for potluck! Take care and hope to see you in September!

Hurricane Information – Julyby Kathy Weir
Storm Season June thru November ARE YOU READY?
Hard to believe it is July already! Block Captains either have or will soon drop off the Manatee County Emergency Map for you. Hopefully you have started to collect items for your Supply kits and have made a disaster plan. This month we have a list of Food Supplies to have handy if we lose power. We have also included a list of a Basic First Aid kit. It is always easier to have a plan before you need it. Special needs plans should be sent to the county already but send it now if you haven’t. Check the August Voice for how to prepare to evacuate in case of a hurricane and tips to make it more comfortable. PLEASE NOTE: THIS YEAR THE SHELTERS SHOULD BE YOUR LAST RESORT FOR EVACUATION. IF YOU MUST GO BE SURE TO BRING EXTRA ITEMS SUCH AS HAND SANITIZER, FACE MASKS, AND WIPES. Food Supplies Select non-perishable foods. Foods that are compact and lightweight. Kitchen Aidby Hubee Heuberger
Try this trick to close the cereal, pancake, rice, or any opened box in the kitchen that you can never seem to get closed and have it stay closed. After using opened box, turn one of the long flaps and the 2 small side flaps in/down. At the top of the small flaps use your fingers to form a Vee, inward. Squeeze the top together and tuck the 2nd long flap against the 1st long flap turned down. Gently squeeze the top of box together. Neat, easy and staying closed! Not my idea, but wish I had created it.

Day Trip – Nokomis, FLby Debbie Thornton
If you’re like me, you enjoy going to new places, observing new surroundings, and having fun with friends. Earlier this year we had the opportunity to take a drive with our visitors down to Nokomis, FL. We had visited this small beach town before by boat and really enjoyed a restaurant we had dined at and wanted to take our visitors there. After doing some “Google Map” research, I was able to find the name of the restaurant – Pelican Alley Waterfront Restaurant & Bar. It is located on the Intracoastal Waterway at the south bridge to Casey Key. They serve up one of the best seafood chowders we have ever tasted and we recommended that to our visitors. We all enjoyed the rich deliciousness of the chowder and then also ordered some other lunch seafood items on the menu – all of the food was very good. After lunch we took a one-minute ride across the bridge to the Nokomis Public Beach on Casey Key. We strolled along the sandy beach to “walk off” some of the food we had eaten. The beach is very pretty there and seemed very relaxing and we vowed we would return to that beach someday just to hang out. All in all, this was a very nice day and one we will remem-ber together with our friends. We hope to get back there soon some day and we also look forward to visiting new places in the area as Florida has many “day trips” waiting for us to explore.
