Plantwise is a global collaborativeprogramme, led by CABI, to improve foodsecurity and livelihoods by reducing croplosses. This is achieved through work withextension services to establish plant clinicswhich advise farmers on plant health problems, and a knowledge bank which brings togetherplant health information. Plantwise also worksto help strengthen national plant health systemsby facilitating links between stakeholders suchas National Plant Protection Organisations(NPPOs), extension and research. ThePlantwise programme has established policiesregarding pest reporting and the use of plantclinic data which take into account the role of

    the NPPO.

In 2013, Plantwise is being piloted in 7 newcountries for a total of 31 countries participatingin the programme. Given the programmesgoals, the way it works with plant healthsystems and its global reach, Plantwise can bean important contributor to the mission of the

International Plant ProtectionConvention (IPPC). Feedback from theCommission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM)will help ensure that Plantwise responds to theneeds of its constituents.

The side event during the 8th session of theCPM is intended to serve as a forum to discussand give feedback on how Plantwise can help

to support NPPO activities and the mission ofthe IPPC.
