INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS PLASMA ?
-An ordinary matter found by Sir William Crookes
a fourth state of matter, now known as plasma.
- Plasmas are conductive assemblies of charged andneutral particles.
- Plasmas carry electrical currents and generatemagnetic fields.
- Types of Plasma are:-
Warm PlasmaCold Plasma
-Cold Plasma is used for antenna applications.

PLASMA ANTENNA
A plasma antenna is a type of radio antenna currently indevelopment in which plasma is used instead of the metalelements of a traditional antenna. It can be used for bothtransmission and reception.
Although plasma antennas have only become practical inrecent years, the idea is not new; a patent for an antennausing the concept was granted to J Hettinger in 1919.

PLASMA ANTENNA TECHNOLOGY
- Operates up to 90 GHz.
- It use ionized gas as counducting material .
- The gas is ionized only for the time of transmissionor reception.
-The design allows for extremely short pulses, important to many forms of digitalcommunication and radars.
-Predicted performance:-Beam Positions= 16Gain= 14dBSwitching speed= 2 micro sec
- Low weight and smaller in size

UNIQUE FEATURE OF PLASMA ANTENNA
One fundamental distinguishingfeature of a plasma antenna isthat the gas ionizing process.
A second fundamentaldistinguishing feature is that aftersending a pulse the plasma
antenna can be deionized.
 Selectable Multi beam.

SelectaBeam
Key Features of Slectabeam:-
 Based on Beam forming tecnology.
Avoid the need of alignment and realignment of fixed pointto point links.
Same Benifites as that of Phased array antenna.

Advantages of Selectabeamand Reflectabeam
High directional g ain: concentrates RF power to
increase link budget, dramatically enhancing network
coverage and capacity.
Low sidelobes reduce interference, enabling improved
frequency re-use and substantially higher utilization.
Wide bandwidth supports simultaneous multi-band or
UWB operation from a single compact antenna.

High speed beam switching enables spatial time
division multiplexing to boost spectral efficiency
and throughput.
Compact and lightweight form factor reduces site
and mast costs, simplifies installation and
minimizes environmental impact.
Maintenance free - auto-aligning with no moving
parts and requires no calibration, minimizing total
cost.

TRADITIONAL ANTENNA VS PLASMAANTENNA
-Unlike simple directional antennas, Plasma Antennas· selecta-beamavoiding the need for manual or mechanical alignment andrealignment of fixed point-to-point communication links.
-Plasma Antennas· selectable-beam antennas provide similar
advantages to phased array antennas but at a fraction of the cost, together with much wider bandwidth of operation.
