Hi! Thanks for purchasing the Phone App Video Kit!

This template as a kit for you to build your own commercials/demo videos to showcase your app or service in action on the phone!

The goal for this template was to make it as modular and accessible as possible. That means separating out scenes, gestures, wallpapers,

screens, etc. so that you can easily swap them in and out.

Look here first for answers and on how to get started.

Enjoy!

Main CompositionThe “Main” comp is the composition from which your final video will be rendered. Contained within are Scenes which can be dragged and re-arranged.

ScenesScenes are the next in line in the hierarchy. Scenes contain the cameras as well as your Gestures, Screens, phone, and Background (if you choose to have one.). Different scenes also have different cameras, some may be zoomed-in, some may pan, etc.

ScreensScreens are contained within 2 different folders ..one for animated screens containing screens that animate due to swipes or notifications or opening the home screen. There is also a folder for static screens. These are then placed within the Scene comps, sandwiched between the “glare” layers and the images of the hand and body of the phone.

Gesturesin the “Gestures” folder you wil find swipes, taps, and pinches.. Gestures are, naturally, overlayed on top of Screens and the phone images in a Scene comp.

How this Project is Set Up

Start by Duplicating a SceneIf I want to create a new scene, what I like to do is to take an existing scene that is closest to what I want, duplicate it, and start editing the duplicate copy. Say I want to have a vertical orientation, I’ll pick one of the scenes with a vertical orientation and duplicate it. However, if I like the camera angle from another scene-I’ll copy it over and replace the current one.

Replace Gestures and ScreensSay I want to do a pinch out gesture and the current scene has a tap gesture. I would replace the scene’s gesture with the pinch gesture found in the Gestures folder, resizing it as necessary.

I would also replace the screen animation with my custom duplicate of the “Pinch Out” screen animation found in the “phone Screens (Animated)” folder.

Replace the Background (optional)Simply go to the “Start Here!” folder go to the “Your Background” comp and drag your image in! The only existing screen with this comp is i “Horizontal Custom.” If the scene you’re working on doesnt’ have the “Your Background” comp, simply copy and paste it from the “Horizontal Custom” scene rather than the Project windowas it contains position data that’ll help make your scene look more 3D.

IMPORTANT When dragging screen/screen animations/gestures/anything over into your new scene, remember to enable the 3D Layer and Motion Blur. Otherwise it may not display correctly.

Customizing Your Own Scene

Replacing the App IconsYour App Icons are in the “Start Here!” portion of your project. From here you can change out your icons and text.

Don’t already have an icon? There are plenty of great templates online. You can find my favorite at: http://appicontemplate.com.

The file will export both the homescreen and notification sizes. Once your icons are ready just replace the icons in the composition and save.

Replacing the WallpaperIf you choose to, you can change the wallpaper on the phone screen. Simply go to the “Start Here!” folder, go to the “Your Wallpaper” comp and drag your image in!

Adding Music / VoiceoverThe track used in the demo video is not included in this project however you can purchase it here at: http://audiojungle.net/item/your-little-planet-corp/1324901

Either use this audio or whatever audio you would like by going into the “Audio” folder, finding “music and voiceover.mp3”, right-clicking, selecting “reload footage” and

choosing the sound file you would like to replace it with.

Title SlidesIf you’d like to have title slides with text in between your scenes, I’ve included a few under the “Title Slides” folder, simply insert them between scenes in your Main composition.

Changing Phone ColorEach scene contains two portions of the phone in their own composition: one labelled “phone (base)” which is the body of the phone, and one labelled “phone (cam & mic)” which contains the Camera and Mic elements of the phone.

You go into each composition, and you will see a white and black layer in there. Make the layer you like visible, and disable layer who’s color you don’t want to use. Do this for both compositions and the phone color in your scenes will be changed!

RenderingTo render out the final video simply go into your “main” composition. Now go to the menu and click Composition> Add to Render Queue. In the render queue, your project should showup. Click into your Output Module settings and make sure to check off “Audio Output” to make sure audio is part of your rendered video. While here you can select the format you want your video to render out to. I tend to like “Quicktime” for myself, and for the web, “H.264” for a high quality picture and small file size.

Click into your “Output To:” to select the destination of your rendered video!
