UPCOMING PROJECTS

Chain of Lakes Downtown Trailhead Park: The Chain of Lakes Downtown Trailhead Parkproject is currently under construction. The project is located adjacent to the Chain ofLakes Trail, south of South Lake Silver Drive and west of Third Street NW. The $1.5 millionproject will feature a destination playground, municipal plaza/lawn, access to the Chain ofLakes Trail and landscaping. In addition, the facility will add 140 new parking spaces to thedowntown area. Approximately 30% of the project is being funded with a grant from theFlorida Department of Transportation. The project is expected to be completed by earlySummer 2011.

Polk State College Soccer Complex: The City is excited to start construction on theCommunity’s first soccer fields in early Spring of 2011. The 25-acre site is located adjacentto the Polk State College Baseball Stadium on the vacant lot located south of Polk StateCollege Access Road and east of Fairfax Drive. The project will feature twoyouth/recreation regulation fields and one collegiate/Olympic size field. In addition, thecomplex will feature a 0.8 mile paved loop trail, restrooms, picnic areas and landscaping.The project is expected to be open by September 2011.

SUMMER CAMP 2011

The City of Winter Haven offers summer camps at the Chain O’ Lakes Complex, Rotary Parkand Winter Haven Recreational & Cultural Center. Weekly sports camps, drop in programsand traditional camps will be offered. Camp will run from June 20 - August 12. Impact Volleyball Academy

IVA holds practice teams throughout the year for girls who are interested in training without the pressure or cost of a competitive team. Practice teams meet Mondays from 4 - 6 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 8 p.m. Most practice team sessions are held at the Orange Dome. Training is provided by a collegiately trained coached. The cost is $40 per month with a $15 registration fee. You may sign up for practice team on a month-to-month basis. Additional information can be found at www.ivafl.com and select Practice Team.

Project EAGLE Cleanup

Project EAGLE (Enhancing A Great Living Environment) is celebrating its 19thanniversary. This is an environmental cleanup of lakes in the Winter Haven area. Lastyear, volunteers removed more than 4,000 pounds of trash and discarded tires fromarea lakes.

Volunteers should bring gloves and a net or pike pole for removing trash; however,sponsors will provide gloves and trash bags to those who do not have them.Volunteers can either walk the perimeters of the lakes or bring their boats.

All participants will receive a free T-shirt and lunch provided by Texas Cattle Companyat Lake Shipp Park. Volunteers will stage at Lake Shipp Park where environmentaldisplays will also be featured.
