PLAYGROUND SAFETY

By Cyrena

On the sign of rules at the park. I found that the playground is open to all children with different abilities. When I went there it seemed like a public facility. Parents use the space by playing with the children. (I saw one dad playing with his son on a sway boat, too cute)

Outdoor Users

Use of Nature and Equipment

Some goals I would like to achieve with this outdoor space is to show kids more about the beach and how to take better care of it. Also to show

This playground is DEFINENTLY wheelchair accessible. They have ramps, wheelchairs where you can go and play in the sand. It is fit for any adult/child with disabilities.

Equipment.

The equipment looks fairly new, either that or they really take care of this playground. This park does meet the Consumer Product Safety Commissions Guidelines for Public Playgrounds. The playground has neither metal or wood, it is plastic which seems like a better choice to me because you can’t burn yourself and splinters suck.

Supervision

Parents were supervising when I got there. Maybe not so well because I saw a lot of children going on the rocks or playing with the sand wheelchairs.

Storage

I didn’t find any loose outdoor equipment when I was there. Vandalism is definitely not a problem here. I walked around the whole thing and didn’t spot one mark.

Diversity

The playground offers many different developmental needs, such as musical, artistic, physical, mental, and social

I didn’t find many places to hide from the shade except for under the playground equipment and a place to sit down to eat… But even that was very small.

Shade

This park definitely meets the disabilities act, for well children with disabilities. It also follows along with the state requirements and fire codes. I honestly do doubt that a playground on a beach would catch on fire.

Compliance Issues

Additional.

The playground would seem good all year round except maybe in winter because that would get really cold. The social interaction there would help a lot of kids, meeting new people and old friends. There were animals there(dolphins) that a lot of kids seemed to enjoy.
