Dear Whānau,

Tēnā koutou, kia ora koutou katoa.

Running, jumping and throwing while the hammers bang and concrete ramps are poured. Stalls,

lambs, craft and displays. Mud, sweat and tears. Term 4 is always an exciting final term to the

school year and 2019 is no exception!

Pets’ Day is an annual highlight of the school year. Thank you to the staff team who help put the

day together. Last Friday, the weather played the game, all animals made it safely to and from

school and we once again enjoyed some special time together to celebrate this wonderful

community that we live in.

As mentioned in our previous school Newsletter our school roll continues to track upwards with

a record 327 students currently attending Point Primary. As such the Ministry of Education has

instructed the Board of Trustees to implement an Enrolment Zone for the school. The Board has

been in discussion with the Ministry about the boundaries of our proposed enrolment ‘home zone’

and the draft map is nearly at a point where over the next few months we are ready to consult

with you, our community and neighbouring schools. Watch this space for further details.

Alongside the Enrolment Zone discussion, we have been directed by our bus association (ASTN)

to formalise our agreements with neighbouring schools about where we pick up students outside

our boundaries to bring them to school. As this process is completed over the course of this term

we will keep you updated if there are any changes for students who live outside our Transport

Entitlement Zone.

Looking Ahead

Coming up on the horizon is Athletics Sports and Get to the Point Day. The long-range forecast

looks patchy but weather-permitting we’re planning towards two great days. Hopefully we will

see you there.

Have a great week!

Hākinakina (Sports) News - P.P.P.S Athletics Day 2019

Age Categories are sorted by the age of your child on the 1st of January 2018.

Please ensure your child comes to school with a drink bottle filled with water and a sufficient

lunch.

Your child needs to come to school wearing their house colours with sensible running shoes.

For some events bare feet are allowed.

Top competitors from each age group will go through to represent our school at the S.C

athletics. We will endeavour to get these names out as quickly as we can.

This year we are also excited to announce that discus will be an optional event. If

your child would like to compete in this event, there will be a sign up sheet sent

around classes. This event will take place during lunch time of Athletics day.

At the completion of the day we will be holding our final event of house relays. These will happen around the field with a house relay from Year 3/4, Year 5/6 and Year 7/8. If time, an exciting event will also take place of P.P.P.S Staff vs Students vs Parents. If you think you have what it takes and would like to be a part of the parents team then please contact Mike Hende.

November

Who: All students from year

2 up.

Please remember first and foremost that this is a school-based

athletics day. While we do our best to ensure the day runs as close to

the S.C athletics as possible, it is also a day for all students to

participate and acquire new skills. We have worked hard to create

and run events similar to S.C standards and hope you enjoy seeing this

on the day. Thank you to parents and T.A’s who are giving up time to

come and help out. Please make sure you give lots of space around

each event to ensure we can track scores closely.

Be Sun Smart…..

As a SunSmart school, we follow the Cancer Society of New Zealand (CSNZ) recommendation that all students and staff wear

hats that provide good shade to the face, back of the neck and ears when outdoors.

Wearing a sunhat is one of the four SunSmart behaviours recommended by the Cancer

Society to protect these areas, between 10am and 4pm from September to April.

If you need a new sunhat please come to the office and the ladies will be happy to assist you. There are two types of hats

available: wide brim $13 and a bucket hat for $10. If students don’t have hats they will be required to play in the shade.

Calendar Art During Term 3 the Junior students, along with some students from the Senior School, were busy creating artwork for our

Calendar Art Fundraiser. This artwork can now be ordered and purchased online.

Your child will come home with a personalised order form. Follow the instructions on the form to view your child’s artwork and

submit an online order. Orders need to be made at http://kidsartworks.com/ and cannot be made at the office. The fundraiser

will run from Thursday the 31st of October, through to Monday the 11th of November and orders can be submitted at any time

during that period. Available for purchase is a personalised calendar, diary, sketch pad, mouse pad and a set of greeting cards.

These make great Christmas presents or keepsakes!

Thank you so much for your support with this.

Get to the Point We are really excited that “Get to the Point” is coming up on Saturday 9th November. This year we will be running the

Chocolate Wheel and the Salad Bar again.

We would love to invite any interested parents that would like to run and organise the Salad Bar to let the office know. If this

sounds like something you would be interested in please email [email protected] or come and see Penny in

the office. Join us for a fun day - we would love to hear from you!

We are asking all families to donate a box of chocolates or a box of scorched almonds to go towards the

prizes for the day. These can be dropped to the office. Donations of salads closer to the time will be

requested. Keep an eye out in upcoming Newsletters and on the Facebook page.

Thanks for your assistance with this!

Blue Bus Forms

Please make any regular bus changes for Term 4 on the blue bus

forms and return to school as soon as possible so we can action

these. Thanks for your assistance with this.

order a Subway lunch.

It is super easy to order via the pre-printed Subway bags
