www.stanthonys.catholic.tas.edu.au No 18: Thursday 2 July 2020 Dear families and friends of St Anthony’s School, At the end of the strangest term we have ever experienced, I would like to again thank you all for your support, patience, trust and belief in St Anthony's School. I think we have achieved amazing things as a community over the past two terms, and we have done it with grace and smiles on our faces. The students in our combined care are all the better for it. Thank you in particular to all of the hard working staff at St Anthony's. You rose to the challenge of moving to an online learning environment, and back again, with a sincere dedication to our students and each other. I am sure that our whole community joins me in applauding your professionalism. With the easing of restrictions in Tasmania, we hope to be able to restart some school activities next term. Social distancing requirements for adults remain (staff and parents), so we will take this into account in our safety plans for Term Three. Specific details will be sent out to you via School stream before Term Three begins. Thank you again for your continued support and understanding. We wish you all a happy and safe school holiday, and a happy return on Monday, the 20th of July. Anita Anita Cunningham Principal Please NOTE: Pupil Free Day tomorrow – Friday 3 July 2020

Sacramental Program 2020 Due to changes in place due to COVID19, there will be no Sacramental Program for the remainder of 2020. We will provide information regarding the 2021 Sacramental program next year.

____________________________________________________ 2020 Mid-Year Reporting This year, our reports will not be the same as usual. Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID 19, there has been a modification made to the normal mid-year report format. These will now be a ‘Progress Statement’ that will reflect the unusual circumstances in which we have been through. Please read the following statement from Catholic Education Tasmania regarding these changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. Jason Perry Deputy Principal ____________________________________________________ Reminder – we understand that it is not hard to have an accident through the day and we are happy to help, but we are running on low on socks/shorts etc. If your child comes home in office supplied school attire could you please return to us? Thank you

CET Advice 2020 Mid-Year Progress Statement Modified expectations in response to COVID 19 – from the CET This progress statement provides feedback about a student’s progress in key learning areas aligned to the relevant Australian Curriculum and Good News for Living achievement standards. It is a snapshot of student progress up until the end of Term 2, inclusive of learning and assessment opportunities undertaken by students, while learning at home. In response to Federal Government amendments regarding the reporting of student achievement due to the COVID 19 pandemic, an A-E rating will not be provided. Student progress will be described as either developing, consolidating, or extending, indicating achievement against the expected standard at the time of reporting (validated Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and GNfL standards). Progress Ratings Developing: Indicates that your child is working towards consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills and understandings identified in the year level achievement standard. Consolidating: Indicates that your child has consistently demonstrated the knowledge, skills and understandings identified in the year level achievement standard, at a satisfactory level. Extending: Indicates that your child has consistently demonstrated the knowledge, skills and understandings identified in the year level achievement standard, at an above satisfactory level. Achievement and Wellbeing Comment This progress statement includes a concluding written statement providing feedback on student achievement and well-being. Descriptive subject based feedback regarding areas successfully completed and areas for further development has formed part of the ongoing feedback processes while students are learning at home. This will replace subject-based comments on reports. _____________________________________________________________________ Frequently Asked Questions & Information

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS RE BUSES FOR TERM 3 2020 METRO BUS Following the conclusion of the fare amnesty period, from Monday 6 July all Metro Tasmania services will resume fare collection and boarding from the front door. We know the return to normal service will be an adjustment for many of our customers, so we’re writing to ask for your assistance in making your school community aware of what to expect when travelling on Metro from 6 July. Perhaps most pertinent is that Metro is still asking passengers to avoid cash payments on board, or to have the correct change if they must pay cash, wherever possible. A simple way to avoid cash payments is to carry a Greencard (which are currently free) and can be managed through a Greencard online account, which allows passengers to top up online and even set up an automatic top up, so they never have to worry how much money is on their Greencard. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at Metro if you have any questions. 132201 or website – www.metrotas.com.au

2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) challenges students from Prep to Year 6 to make reading a fun part of their day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. While reading 10 books means the student has completed the Challenge, we would always encourage them to read more. Log books will be provided to record the books that you have read and participants will also receive stickers and other goodies to reward their reading. This year, the challenge began on Monday 27th April and will go through to Term 3 2020 (date tba). WHAT CAN I READ? Students are free to choose which fiction or non-fiction books to read for the challenge. Large chapter books can be counted as more than one book – students need to talk to their teachers about how many chapters or pages can be counted as “one book”. HOW TO REGISTER Please contact Mr Perry via email if you would like to participate: [email protected] These websites may help students choose books to read: Libraries Tasmania – Kids Reading page https://libraries.tas.gov.au/kids/Pages/default.aspx Good Reading Magazine – For kids www.goodreadingmagazine.com.au/just-for-kids.html Reading Time – children’s book reviews and news http://readingtime.com.au/

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2020 Thank you to those students that have participated in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge by reading at least 10 books and recording it in their logbooks. I have had 13 completed logbooks returned to me already with Emily in Grade 1 receiving a certificate for reading an amazing 50 books! Due to the pandemic, the PRC has been extended into next term so there is still time to participate. Logbooks are available either from the class teachers or from the office. Keep on reading!!
