From the Pastor… Pastor Rittenhouse and his family were on vacation traveling down the highway when they saw a suitcase fly off the top of a car going the opposite direction. They stopped to pick it up, but the driver of the other car never stopped. The only clue to the driver’s identity was a twenty dollar gold piece inscribed: “Given to Otis Sampson at his retirement by Portland Cement Company.” After extensive corre-spondence, Otis Sampson was located and contacted. He wrote a letter telling them to discard the suitcase and all its contents, and send only the gold piece. Mr. Sampson used the phrase “my most pre-cious possession,” several times to de-scribe the gold piece. Pastor Rittenhouse sent the gold piece, and wrote a cover let-ter telling Otis Sampson about his most prized possession, Jesus Christ. A year later, the pastor received a Christmas package. In it was the twenty dollar gold piece. Mr. Sampson wrote, “You will be happy to know we have become active members of a church. We want you to have this gold piece. I am seventy-four; my wife is seventy-two. You were the first one to tell us about Jesus. Now He is our most prized possession.” How many people do not know Jesus be-cause no one tells them about Him? Our greatest responsibility as followers of Christ is to share our faith with others. All that we do should be focused on this mission. Think of how our world could change if all people had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. If each of us would take the time to share Christ with those we en-counter the world would be a different place. Pastor Tim

Children’s Missions Program Needs

Now that our Children’s Mission Program has come to an end until next fall, it is time to eval-uate where we might go from here. The people who give their time on Wednesday nights to lead our children are very passionate about their ministry. We have many children attend-ing on Wednesday night and we have a respon-sibility to minister to them. In a meeting held on Wednesday night, May 25, several ideas were explored in an effort make our Children’s Program the most effective it can be. I was im-pressed with the number of ideas presented. In order to make our program flow better for the children on Wednesday night beginning in the fall we would like to divide what we do into four distinct activities: Missions, Bible Story, Activity and Music. In order to make this work we need more volunteers. I have heard people ask many times, “Where are the children?” The children are here on Wednesday night and so we need to minister to them and share the story of Jesus with them in the most effective way we can. I cannot emphasize enough our need for volun-teers. If this program w orks as w e envi-sion it working with enough volunteers, no one would have to commit to every week. I hope you will seriously consider helping in this time on Wednesday evenings. You will be hearing more about this in the weeks to come, but please prayerfully consider your role and re-sponsibility in helping with this ministry. Our children are depending on you. Pastor Tim
