Swimming The swimming program commenced this week. Last term a letter was sent out indicating an incorrect amount for swimming. Lessons cost $3 per week (pool entry fee) or $18 for the term. I have been advised by the pool that this year we do not have to pay an extra fee for a life guard as we did in 2010. The $18 term fee includes the cost of the swimming carnival. Please note that there will be no swimming next Monday as Miss Bowie will be attending an in-service day. These lessons will be made up later in the term. Parent helpers are still required for swimming. Please note that we need adequate supervision of students during swimming lessons so the more parents that can come along the better it is for everyone. Classes for 2012 Whilst I am not in a position to make a decision on class teachers for next year I do wish to advise that we will not be having any composite classes in 2012 if the enrolment projections are correct. I feel that the decision not to go with composite classes is in the best interests of teachers as well as students particularly due to the introduction of the national curriculum in English, Maths and Science in 2012. It is anticipated that enrolment numbers will decline in 2012 from 198 students to approximately 180 students. The major reason for declining enrolments next year is we have a large cohort of year 7 students leaving and a small class of Prep students enrolled into the school. Another reason for declining enrolments is that we have a number of families leaving the area at the end of this year or during this term. Tuckshop The tuckshop started well last week. Thanks to Terry McDonald from Gemini’s Coffee Lounge who has agreed to supply tuckshop. Hopefully it will be a success but I am requesting that you support it. Remember tuckshop is on Tuesdays and Thursdays and that orders need to be placed the day before. Any parents who would like to help can come along on Tuesday or Thursday morning between 9am and 11am. School Website Last week we upgraded our school website. The website address is: www.stclares.qld.edu.au . The newsletter is one of the things that will be uploaded onto the website each week. I would invite you to have a look through the website and make any comments/suggestions for improvement. School Buses for Monday 17th October Please note that on Monday 17th October some buses may not be running due to it being a Pupil Free Day for State Schools. Parents please check with your child’s bus driver if they will be running or organise private transport. Staff I would like to wish Lucy Wells all the best as she takes some long service over the next 2 weeks. Gloria Pietrobon will be replacing Lucy in year 2 whilst she is on leave. The school groundsman, Ben Coppola, has resigned from his position as he has moved away from the area. Prior to proceeding with advertising I would like to discuss some options at the next Parents and Friends meeting. Parents and Friends Meeting On Tuesday 18th October at 7:30pm we will be holding a Parents and Friends meeting. Agenda items include: * Discussion of the RREAP program * Feedback on some areas of School Renewal Surveys * Discussion on installing a fitness station on the school oval * Discussion and feedback on the School Fete * Discussion of P&F priorities for 2012. * School Groundsman position * Swimming Carnival - BBQ Have a good week. _________________ Greg Hoare Principal 2011 SCHOOL FEES - TERM FOUR School Fees Accounts have been attached to this newsletter and due date is 25th October 2011. From the APRE’s Desk

Feet

To understand people, it is important to walk in their shoes. So,

. I wore my father’s shoes; I could understand his thoughts.

. I wore my mother’s slippers; I could understand her

intentions.

. I wore my brother’s runners; I could understand his hopes.

. I wore my sister’s sandals; I could understand her decisions.

Eventually, I could understand behaviour,

reactions and words.

Eventually I could understand fears and hopes

for the future.

I wore Jesus’ sandals,

and I understood as never before

that Jesus would walk the whole world to

find me,

just to tell me:

How much he loved me,

and how long he would search for me,

no matter how far my feet would turn

and walk away from him.

Jesus, you walked long distances

To spread your message of love and peace

Continue to walk by my side

As I try to understand your will for me.

Amen
