How The Outdoor Cla

ssroom Got It's NameIn 2011 CMP opened the outdoor classroom and garden area. Dan and

Pauline surprised Delores and Carol Fugleberg by naming it “The Glenn”, after Mrs. Delores’ late husband, Glenn Fugleberg. Glenn and Delores

started cleaning and doing repairs for CMP when the school first opened in 1983. Their daughter Carol also helped clean the school and eventually

became a teacher in 1987. The Fugleberg family has been and continues to be a huge part of the CMP family.

Page 8: Please see what's up and coming in August at CMPcarmelmountainpreschool.com/wp-content/uploads/... · Glenn”, you’ll understand why this space is so important and meaningful to

When deciding on a name for the outdoor classroom and garden it just felt right to honor Glenn, who passed away in 1994. “Glenn was always such a positive male presence at the school. He always made jokes and made us

laugh. He was like a big teddy bear and he could fix anything. We wanted to remember him by naming “The Glenn” after him,” says Arianne Bettazzi.

Next time you hear your child talk about all the fun they had in “The Glenn”, you’ll understand why this space is so important and meaningful to

the CMP family. Future enrollment at CMP?

If you have a little one or know a family who is interested in attending CMP in thefuture, now is the time to get on the wait list. If you have any questions please stop

by the front office - we can help you start the process.

“Creating Art with Nature”Julie Goldstein

I love to be in nature, I get so inspired and excited about the textures, space and overall experience. The

children also love to be in nature and often create drawings or collect objects from nature to use in theirartwork. For this particular project, we went on a walk through The Glenn and collected all kinds of objects

including pine cones, pine needles, rocks, seedpods and leaves. We went back to The Studio and createdbeautiful paintings full of textures, colors and even created some music by listening to the sounds of thepine needles smacking against the paper and rocks rolling in the paint. This project is so easy to do, a bit

messy but well worth it!

Materials:

Natural found objects: pine cones, pine needles, seedpods, leaves, and rocks…Black construction paperTempera paint (I used orange, green and purple mixed with white)

Instructions:

Take the kids out in nature and help them find objects that might be good topaint with. (I set up an area and stocked it up with objects for them, this is

paint with. (I set up an area and stocked it up with objects for them, this isparticularly important for the younger kids)“Today we are going to paint! What do tool do we typically paint with? (APaintbrush)… Well, today we are going to paint with the things that we foundin nature!”Demonstrate color mixing and then use the pine needles first. Dab it into thepaint and splatter it down onto the paper. Then switch colors to show the kidsout to create texture, overlap and color mixing while working with theseobjects.Show how to use all the objects, stamping the leaves and rolling the pinecones.Pass out the paper, additional materials and let the kids CREATE!

Have Fun!

CMP Co"ee BarNeed a quick fill up before you head to work? Stop by our Organic Coffee & Tea Bar located

outside the kitchen window near the front patio. Organic coffee and tea will be brewed everymorning and available from 6:45am-12:30pm. Organic fruit will also be available for a quick on-

the-go morning snack along with homemade organic creamer.

Please bring a reusable coffee mug to fill up. One of Carmel Mountain Preschool's Core Values is"we are organic" and we wanted to carry that into our Coffee Bar. We decided not to use a Keurig

due to the amount of excess waste it would create.

CMP has partnered up with Klean Kanteen and we now have CMP Klean Kanteen reusable coffeemugs for sale in the front office for $25. Feel free to stop by the office to take a look.

Testimonial of the MonthWe love hearing all the great things you have to say about CMP!

"About six months ago my son, Cruz, was getting ready to transition topreschool. We had been waiting for an opening at another preschool

when our daycare contract was canceled and we needed to find a placefor him to go. I had been driving by CMP quite often for a couple yearsand always got a good feeling when driving by. I made an appointmentto tour the facility and meet Ms. Gina. I immediately loved the place. I

walked in to the smell of fresh banana muffins baking and a warmsmile and greeting from Ms. Gina. She took me on a tour of the schooland I was enjoying it so much I wanted to enroll myself! Could I sentCruz to work and send myself to preschool? Ok back to reality! Cruz

was accepted into the summer program at CMP and started hisexperience in June 2016. His teachers were Ms. May and Ms. Jenna. He LOVED his teachers and all of his friends. He didn't take any time

to adjust to preschool and immediately jumped in head first to thewhole experience. Now he is in Ms. Kara and Ms. Mallory's class. He

loves them just as much and is friends with all the kids in his class. The growth we have seen in Cruz is tremendous and we love everyone

at CMP. We have our 15 month old daughter, Ayla, on the wait list andhope she can start at CMP in the summer. She is going to love it at

CMP. A big thank you to all of the staff at CMP for giving our son love, attention, education, structure and FUN!!! He is thriving and we are

so happy that we found CMP before enrolling Cruz in anotherpreschool. It was certainly meant to be!!!"
