What is Secondhand Smoke?

There are two types of secondhand smoke: Side stream smoke, the smoke coming from a burning cigarette, and Smoke exhaled from a persons mouth (ETS) Environmental Tobacco Smoke, this is sometimes called passive smoke.

CONTAINS Over 4,000 chemical compounds

5 regulated hazardous air pollutants

47 regulated hazardous wastes

60 known or suspected cancer causing agents and more than 100 chemical poisons

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified secondhand smoke as a group A carcinogen, a substance known to cause cancers in humans for which there is no safe level of exposure

IN ADULT NON-SMOKERS Accounts for 62,000 heart disease deaths annually
