Word Study & Spelling High Frequency Words-Our students will learn a set of

high frequency words that are specific to third grade. Five words a week. These are words that occur frequently in our reading

and writing. It is important that your child learn to read these in print and be able to spell them correctly.

Word Study- Our students will learn principles of language as they make and break common words. This includes… Compound words Homophones Long and short vowels Comparative endings (-er, -est) Inflectional endings (-d, -ed)

The goal is for students to learn patterns andparts of words that will support

Challenge to the Fathers

One letter a month to your third grader Shows the power of writing (10 letters/notes)

Write about anything, but keep it positive

Put the letter on your child’s pillow, in his/her homework folder, or breakfast seat.

I will email a reminder at the beginning of each month.

If necessary, another adult male role model would be great
