the addition of an AEC & Manufacturing Convergence consulting practice. This consulting practice focuses on bridging the flow of data and integrating processes between manufacturing and the design, fabrication, and operation of facilities and infrastructure to reduce waste from project proposal through commissioning, reduce budget and timeline contingencies, improve quality and compliance, and better enable a seamless flow of information to support ongoing operation, maintenance, and upgrades. To support this new practice, Peter Bilello, President of CIMdata, announces that Edward (Ed) Martin will lead the practice and will have the title of Director, AEC & Manufacturing Convergence Consulting Practice. “We are extremely pleased that Mr. Martin will be leading this new practice, working alongside CIMdata’s extensive senior level consulting staff to expand CIMdata’s consulting capabilities in the areas of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and their links to the manufacturing industry,” stated Mr. Bilello. Mr. Martin has deep experience from more than two decades in the manufacturing industry and almost ten years with a leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Building Information Management (BIM) solution provider. Within manufacturing, he has successfully driven product modularization strategies and the adoption of lean manufacturing principles to improve manufacturing performance. His PLM experience includes developing product strategies for solutions including facility layout, NC fabrication, visualization, product configuration, and rules-driven design. BigLever Joins Major Automotive Company to Spotlight the Key Role of Product Line Engineering in the Automotive Industry at Method Park Event 21 April 2016

BigLever Software, the leading provider of Product Line Engineering (PLE) solutions, today announced that the company’s founder and CEO, Dr. Charles Krueger, will be a featured presenter at the Method Park “Talk in the Park” event on April 26, 2016 in Rochester, Mich. Krueger and key executives from a major automotive manufacturer and Method Park will present and explore the latest advances in PLE that are driving automotive manufacturing to new levels of innovation. “Automotive companies today are faced with the challenges of managing the diversity of complex product lines across the full product family lifecycle – from portfolio planning to engineering, product management, supply chain, manufacturing, sales, and service,” said Krueger. “PLE has emerged as a game-changing engineering paradigm for addressing these challenges. By taking an innovative feature-based approach to managing product variation across the lifecycle, major automotive manufacturers have achieved significant competitive advantage and dramatic results, including increased quality and efficiencies, while at the same time, reducing time to market.” PLE addresses engineering complexity by dramatically simplifying the creation, delivery, maintenance, and evolution of a product line portfolio. It uses a shared set of engineering assets, a managed set of features, and an efficient means for automating the production of a product line. At the event, Krueger and other presenters will discuss how PLE is delivering major gains in efficiency through the creation of a “single source of feature truth" for all software, electronic, mechanical, and operations artifacts across the lifecycle. Other significant PLE capabilities to be discussed at the event include:

• Bill of Features – allows companies to use a Bill of Features to determine materials (mechanical, electrical, wiring, software, calibrations, requirements, designs, test cases, documentation, etc.) rather than a Bill of Materials to determine features.

• Multistage Configuration – enables product line managers and marketers to better comprehend, organize, and manage complex product family trees based on product line features.

• Feature/Option Bundles – simplifies the complexity of feature choice “combinatorics” by defining feature option bundles, allowing product line managers to effectively analyze and manage those bundles.

Presenters will also address how leading-edge PLE capabilities will be leveraged in AUTOSAR (Automotive Open Systems Architecture) to support the establishment of a common platform across the whole automotive industry, including manufacturers, software suppliers, and tool developers.

Additionally, BigLever and Method Park will preview the companies’ latest collaboration – a framework for using Method Park’s Stages Process Management System to model, automate, and manage PLE processes. This will enable companies to improve cross-functional communication and alignment in PLE deployments. BigLever Session

Intergraph Signs Software Reseller Agreement 19 April 2016

Intergraph® Process, Power & Marine has signed a reseller contract with Dynaflow Research Group (DRG) to sell DRG’s BOSfluids® software in the European region. BOSfluids is a three-dimensional fluid flow analysis solution that models steady state and transient flow in liquid or gas carrying piping systems. The software has a bi-directional interface with Intergraph’s pipe stress analysis software Intergraph CAESAR II®, eliminating redundant work processes and improving the quality of pipe stress and fluid flow analysis. The software simplifies the way both static and transient flow analysis of gas and liquids in pipe systems are conducted. It analyses fluid transients and relates this information to the forces, pressures, flow rates and velocities in the piping system with engineering accuracy, improving the quality and safety of the analysis. BOSfluids analyses and predicts problems in the pipe systems, such as water hammer and pressure surge, enabling users to avoid breakage of the pipe system and nozzles. Niels Bos, partner at Dynaflow Research Group, says, “We believe that this seamless interaction between dynamic pipe stress and transient fluid flow analysis, enabled by BOSfluids and CAESAR II, will drastically improve the efficiency of engineering analysis for our clients.” Peter van der Weijde, vice president at Intergraph CADWorx® & Analysis Solutions Europe, says, “The addition of BOSfluids to our analysis portfolio further strengthens the solution suite we are offering to our clients. Many Manufacturers Not Prepared to Harness Benefits of Digital Technologies Despite Plans to Invest Heavily in AI and Related Technologies, According to Accenture Report 19 April 2016

Despite plans to invest in machines and artificial intelligence as part of their strategy to boost productivity, many automotive and industrial equipment companies are failing to implement the measures needed to harness these capabilities, according to a new report from Accenture. The report, “Machine dreams: Making the Most of the Connected Industrial Workforce,” is based on interviews with more than 500 business executives in Asia, Europe and the United States involved in setting their company’s strategy for the connected industrial workforce. According to the report, manufacturing and production are undergoing rapid change as machines and artificial intelligence are becoming closely integrated with personnel, creating the connected industrial workforce. By combining mobile, safety and tracking technologies with analytics, companies are enhancing the activities of an industrial worker. The report concludes that the creation of a connected industrial workforce is already part of the business strategy of the majority of automotive and industrial equipment producers, cited by 94 percent of respondents. Respondents estimate that their companies could spend up to one-quarter of their R&D expenditure over the next five years on connected industrial workforce technologies. This could reach €181 billion for automotive companies and €39 billion for industrial equipment companies. But while the manufacturing companies surveyed believe that the impact of the connected industrial workforce will be significant, the research reveals that the companies making these investments could fail to maximize the competitive advantage that the investments can bring. For instance, fewer than one-quarter (22 percent) of respondents said their companies have implemented measures designed to realize the potential of a connected industrial workforce, with 85 percent of respondents describing their companies as digital followers or laggards, rather than leaders. One of the issues that could adversely impact the implementation of a connected industrial workforce is the related technology. Data vulnerability is seen as a medium or high risk for 76 percent of respondents, while system complexity and related vulnerability is seen as medium or high risk by 72 percent of respondents. In addition, more than two thirds (70 percent) of respondents consider a shortage of skilled human workers to be a high or medium risk. This could also impact their ability to deliver on their connected industrial workforce strategy “Those leading manufacturers investing in digital technologies to harness competitive advantage are spending almost twice as much as laggards on the connected industrial workforce—and will continue to raise the bar over the next five years,” said Eric Schaeffer, senior managing director and head of Accenture’s Industrial practice. “We also see laggards lacking the confidence to implement the technologies that underpin a successful connected industrial workforce and this may threaten their competitiveness.”

The vast majority of respondents—85 percent—said they expect the focus of technology in manufacturing to evolve from human to human-machine-centric, where collaborative machines, humans augmenting machines and autonomous machines are combined to create a more effective workforce. A number of the organizations surveyed have a clear focus for investments relating to workforce effectiveness. Autonomous guided vehicles—mobile robots that move materials around a facility or warehouse—already account for half of spending by these companies in this area and will continue to account for much of it in the future. The same organizations plan to boost their investments in both collaborative robots (“cobots”) and augmented reality devices, including smart glasses and helmets, over the next five years. In their efforts to tackle the security concerns, a number of respondents are also investing heavily in upgrading their existing IT infrastructures to help ensure a securely connected workforce. Among the respondents who believe they are leading the creation of the connected industrial worker, 89 percent have started to hire new talent to close the skills gap. Accenture estimates that by 2020 the connected industrial workforce could help an automotive manufacturer with annual revenues of €50 billion unlock as much as €500 million in additional profitability—including €50 million in increased R&D profitability, €415 million in increased profitability from manufacturing and supply, and €30 million in increased after-sales profits. Among the respondents who are seeking to use technology to help them improve productivity, the automotive manufacturers and suppliers have the highest interest in collaborative robots, automated guided vehicles and augmented reality devices. “As cobots take on more and more specialized tasks, leading manufacturers that are investing in digital to harness competitive advantage are moving rapidly toward human-machine-centric manufacturing,” added Schaeffer. The report also identified some differences by country in terms of their R&D investments in connected workforce technologies. US respondents expect to make the highest percentage of R&D investment in the connected industrial workforce, at 40 percent of total R&D spend. The next highest percentage is for respondents in China, estimating 23 percent of R&D to be spent in this area, falling to 17 percent of total R&D spend for respondents in Japan. The respondents in Germany and France estimate 20 percent and 19 percent respectively. Accenture interviewed 512 business professionals at companies in China, France, Germany, Japan and the United States. All respondents were involved in setting their company’s strategy for the Connected Industrial Workforce; the sample included factory directors, engineering and R&D heads, operations and HR managers, and C-suite executives. More than half were from the industrial equipment industry, with the rest split between automotive and construction equipment. The interviews were conducted in December 2015.

Total cloud revenues (public, private and hybrid) for the quarter increased 34 percent (up 36 percent adjusting for currency). Cloud revenue over the trailing 12 months was $10.8 billion. The annual exit run rate for cloud delivered as a service -- a subset of the total cloud revenue -- increased to $5.4 billion from $3.8 billion in the first quarter of 2015. Revenues from analytics increased 7 percent (up 9 percent adjusting for currency). Revenues from mobile increased 88 percent (up 93 percent adjusting for currency) and from security increased 18 percent (up 20 percent adjusting for currency). IBM continues to expect full-year 2016 operating (non-GAAP) diluted earnings per share of at least $13.50. The company expects GAAP diluted earnings per share of at least $12.35. The 2016 operating (non-GAAP) earnings expectation excludes $1.15 per share of charges for amortization of purchased intangible assets, other acquisition-related charges and retirement-related charges. IBM had previously expected a free cash flow realization of GAAP net income which implied a full-year free cash flow range of $11 billion to $12 billion. The company now expects free cash flow to be at the high end of that range at the same base level of operating (non-GAAP) EPS. The decrease in the company’s pre-tax income was primarily the result of increased expenses for workforce transformation, real estate actions, and actions in Latin America, which totaled nearly $1.5 billion. IBM’s tax rate for the first quarter includes a $1.0 billion refund of previously paid non-U.S. taxes, plus interest, for a total benefit of $1.2 billion. This is the result of a long-standing tax matter which was resolved in the company’s favor in February and was disclosed in the 2015 IBM Annual Report. The impact of the tax refund on the company’s first-quarter net income was largely equivalent on an after-tax basis to the expenses for workforce transformation, real estate actions, and actions in Latin America. The company generated free cash flow of $2.3 billion in the first quarter, excluding Global Financing receivables, up $1.2 billion year to year. IBM returned $1.2 billion in dividends and $0.9 billion of gross share repurchases to shareholders. At the end of March 2016, IBM had $4.7 billion remaining in the current share repurchase authorization. IBM ended the first-quarter 2016 with $14.9 billion of cash on hand, an increase of $6.7 billion since year-end 2015. Debt, including Global Financing debt of $26.8 billion, totaled $45.6 billion, compared with $39.9 billion at year-end 2015. Core (non-global financing) debt totaled $18.8 billion, an increase of $6.1 billion since year-end 2015. The balance sheet remains strong and is well positioned to support the business over the long term.

$9 million and negatively impacted non-GAAP EPS by approximately $0.01 per share. James Heppelmann, President and CEO said, “We were very pleased with our execution in Q2. Bookings exceeded the high-end of guidance, adoption of our subscription licensing model accelerated, support conversions to subscription accelerated sequentially, and we continued to gain traction in our IoT business.” Heppelmann added, “While a higher subscription mix negatively impacts near-term reported revenue and earnings, we believe significant long-term value will be created for our customers and shareholders by transitioning to a subscription model. Importantly, we remain committed to our track record of financial discipline, and when viewed on a mix-adjusted basis, according to our model, both our Q2 revenue and earnings per share would have exceeded the high end of our guidance range.” Operational Overview For additional details, please refer to the prepared remarks and financial data tables that have been posted to the Investor Relations section of our website at ptc.com. Information about our bookings and other reporting measures is provided on page 4.

• License and subscription bookings were $86 million; above the high end of the guidance range of $71 million to $81 million.

• For the quarter, subscription bookings were approximately 54% of total bookings, well above our guidance assumption of 26% and up from 14% a year ago. Based upon our model, this higher than guidance mix of subscription in the quarter, while expected to be positive long-term, reduced perpetual license revenue by approximately $24 million and reduced non-GAAP EPS by approximately $0.16 as compared to our guidance. As a rule of thumb, our model indicates that, on an annual basis, every 1% change in subscription mix will impact annual revenue by $3 million, and annual non-GAAP EPS by $0.02.

• Total subscription annualized contract value (ACV) was $23 million; above guidance of $10 million.

• Software revenue, which reflects a higher mix of subscription than last year, was down approximately $24 million or 9% on a year-over-year, constant currency basis. Our model indicates that the higher mix of subscription than last year lowered Q2’16 software revenue by approximately $30 million.

• Annualized recurring revenue (ARR) was approximately $742 million at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2016.

• GAAP operating expenses were approximately $191 million; non-GAAP operating expenses were approximately $164 million. These results were at the low end of both the GAAP and non-GAAP guidance ranges.

• Q2’16 GAAP operating margin was 1% and non-GAAP operating margin was 14%. Q2’15 GAAP operating margin was 1% and non-GAAP operating margin was 23%. Based on our model, the higher mix of subscription in Q2’16 reduced Q2’16 non-GAAP operating margin by approximately 700 basis points as compared to guidance.

• For Q2’16, we recorded a GAAP income tax expense of $1.6 million, or $0.01 per share and a non-GAAP income tax expense of $6.8 million, or $0.06 per share. The non-GAAP tax rate for the quarter was 21%.

• Cash flow from operations was $49 million. Excluding $28 million paid in February in

connection with the SEC and DOJ FCPA investigation related to our China business and $25 million paid in connection with the restructuring announced in October 2015, cash provided by operations for Q2’16 was $102 million and free cash flow was $97 million. We did not purchase any shares in Q2’16, as our share repurchases are planned for the second half of FY’16.

• We ended the quarter with total cash and cash equivalents of $368 million and total debt of $838 million.

OPEN MIND supplies CAD/CAM software to premium automotive manufacturer 18 April 2016

BMW AG has introduced OPEN MIND Technologies AG, developer of the CAM system hyperMILL®, as one of its CAD/CAM software suppliers. Following multi-phase benchmark tests, the modular hyperMILL® complete CAM solution won over the IT department at the BMW Group and the experts in tool engineering, prototyping and series production. As a result, BMW departments and plants all over the world can now use the high-end hyperMILL® CAD/CAM system. The results of the benchmark tests revealed that thanks to the exceptional advantages of the hyperMILL® CAM solution, BMW AG has introduced OPEN MIND as a permanent CAD/CAM software supplier. The IT department, the specialist tool engineering and prototyping departments as well as serial production see hyperMILL® as an intuitive, high-end CAD/CAM system with a high degree of technical fulfilment. BMW plants around the world can now select and employ hyperMILL® in consultation with IT headquarters.

The selection process 18 months ago, the central IT department of the BMW Group began searching for a new CAD/CAM system. The goal was to find a CAD/CAM solution with a high level of coverage for the many different NC application areas in the specialist departments. This resulted in a comprehensive technical evaluation and a cost-benefit analysis for all participants in the benchmark tests together with the specialist departments.

Intensive benchmark tests In the autumn of 2014, the BMW Group invited OPEN MIND and five other CAD/CAM manufacturers to take part in benchmark tests. A multi-phase selection procedure saw the CAD/CAM systems undergo intensive testing in the following main categories: ‘tool making’, ‘series production’, ‘prototyping’ and the internal BMW category ‘CAM light’. This was followed by a technical evaluation based on presentations and programming tasks. To make the shortlist, the system had to successfully pass the economic evaluation. OPEN MIND came out on top thanks to the technical and economic benefits of hyperMILL®. This cleared the way for the pilot phase with milling tests in early 2015. Users from the specialist departments at BMW M GmbH, Material testing, Tooling in Munich and Dingolfing were provided with training and began to use the OPEN MIND system to programme components and tools.

High standards hyperMILL® is a modular CAM solution that integrates a comprehensive concept for 2D, 3D as well as 5axis milling/mill turning and machining operations like high-speed and high-performance cutting (HSC and HPC) in one interface. Complete machining with just one CAM software and one postprocessor for all turning and milling processes results in integrated processes and minimised machining times.

Automated CAM programming Automation represents the highest degree of perfection in CAD/CAM systems. At BMW, the trimming dies for the automation task were selected in the benchmark tests. The task was to create NC programs automatically for ten trimming dies. “We defined an optimised process for these trimming dies and at the push of a button, it’s possible to reproduce these best practices on any of these geometries,” says Martin Herrmann, Product Development Manager at OPEN MIND. “In terms of automation, we are not only able to significantly reduce programming times, we can also create NC programs that guarantee perfect, highly optimised machining quality,” adds Volker Nesenhöner, CEO at OPEN MIND Technologies AG. The programming times and milling results achieved won over the specialist departments at the BMW Group.

Share3D On-Premise delivers technical documents that are Powered by Share3D™. These interactive 3D documents are shared using industry standard HTML5 which provides a cross-platform, zero-footprint solution viewable in any modern browser, on most devices and with no client-side install. Viewers can view and interact with technical documentation using Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome or Opera on PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices. Unlike most competitive web solutions, no browser plugins are required. When compared to 3D PDF, Powered by Share3D™ documents often realize benefits from smaller files, improved 3D performance, 3D viewing on Android and iOS devices, and consistent browser viewing. When Share3D On-Premise is combined with QuadriSpace authoring software such as Pages3D and Publisher3D, companies can use an integrated set of solutions allowing them to readily use existing 3D CAD models for the creation of documentation and then seamlessly deliver those to others using the locally installed server. With a local server, customers are in direct control of security, access, performance, appearance, organization and content of their technical documentation system. In order to simplify delivery of technical documentation, Share3D On-Premise includes features making it easy to customize, organize and maintain online documentation portals. Documentation portals can be setup to provide local intranet access for superior internal security, or can be made available on the internet to provide access via user portals or without any authentication requirements. Share3D On-Premise server provides simple tools for managing file hierarchy, versions and user access. By using hierarchical organization and links between documents, customers can easily create reusable instructions and drill-down spare part catalogs suitable for simple or complex product documentation requirements. When it comes to authoring technical documents using 3D data, QuadriSpace authoring products are unmatched. Pages3D provides a patented approach allowing authors to use a single software solution that combines pages layout tools with 3D tools. Publisher3D publishes illustrations and single page documents using templates. Both authoring applications include all the 3D tools needed to incorporate 3D with product documentation; for example, create clickable parts lists, step-by-step processes, interactive animations, illustrated parts list and product mock-ups. Finally, the combination of QuadriSpace products provides flexible possibilities for customization. QuadriSpace authoring software encourages the creation of fully customized documents; either through customizable templates with Publisher3D or complete, custom multi-page documents with Pages3D. In addition, the look and feel of the web experience can be customized with Share3D On-Premise using standard CSS and HTML modifications. QuadriSpace Corporation provides leading software, server and cloud services that enable easy reuse of 3D CAD models and metadata for technical documentation authoring and delivery. Our software

TEXION Improves CAD Systems 22 April 2016

Companies can tap into a huge potential when developing new products and by automating and optimising production - as long as they are using the right software. TEXION has, therefore, revamped and improved its ProCad range of CAD systems. With its new simulation software, this software specialist is also offering top quality 3D simulation that even the most discerning customers will accept when making their pre-selections. More drafts and fewer samples is just one of the advantages of this new system. TEXION’s new software developments are also focusing on the machines that are used to produce this wide range of designs. The modern warp knitting machines used are state-of-the-art. ProFab’s role is to enable the performance potential of this technology to be fully utilised and to network the production machines into efficient processes. The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the link between the planning system and the production machine and is responsible for the automated sequences in accordance with Industry 4.0. During production, both the ProCad and ProFab systems offer optimum integration and maximum benefits for the client. This performance is based on many years of close cooperation between TEXION and KARL MAYER, the leading manufacturer of warp knitting machines, on excellent customer

relations, and on the proximity to the Technische Hochschule RWTH (RWTH Aachen University) in Aachen, where the company is based. ProFab is an efficient MES that supports every type and generation of warp knitting machine. This flexible TEXION product can be absorbed easily into existing infrastructures, and networks the machines to the planning system. Fully integrated into the machine control systems, ProFab can access all the machine data and all the planning data at the same time – an important pre-requisite for carrying out fully automatic sequences, and an effective process automation system. The guaranteed real-time networking of the machines into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems provides an accurate view of the status of the machines at all times, the machine utilisation, the status of the job, as well as quality reports and analyses. Problems can be detected immediately and resource planning is simplified. ProCad is the perfect tool for the design departments of textile producers. The high-end ProCad software developer enables multibar and jacquard raschel patterns to be developed and processed. The ProCad warpknit can handle warp-knitted spacer textiles, tricot and raschel fabrics. They can also be visualised as simulations – performance features that TEXION is expanding and optimising all the time. The new 3D fabric simulation system was premiered at ITMA 2015. This innovative solution is available immediately for the ProCad developer, and alongside the 3D-Lab for the ProCad warpknit. It can produce 3D simulations of large lace, jacquard and tricot patterns extremely quickly and creates an extremely realistic image, which is based on two important new innovations – newly developed 3D algorithms and a wide range of new yarn models. The resulted surface structures look three-dimensional and sculptured, even at high magnifications. Reflective effects and light and shaded areas can be examined very closely on a microscopic level. Microscopically displaying the fabric enables yarn effects, such as shimmering yarns and deformations by integration in the stitch structure to be shown to full advantage. According to Werner Modenbach, the goal that he set himself, i.e. to avoid the time-consuming and expensive production of sample collections in every area of warp knitting, has been achieved with 3D simulation. The feedback from clients, even in sensitive and critical areas, such as the car industry, is extremely positive. The users will recognise and accept the new simulation technology as a basis for making their pre-selections. The ProCad developer and the ProCad warpknit are efficient design tools that make many more fabrics available for pre-selection than ever before for a much lower cost. Samples now only need to be produced of a few fabrics.
