To give you an idea of how much this is, 2 million kWh can power 175 single-family homes for a year and 3 million gallons of water is the size of the “Whales Harbor” in the Oceanarium at the Shedd Aquarium. It is our hope that through combined efforts to effectively manage our energy, water and waste, we will significantly decrease the building’s environmental impact. Our long-term vision is not simply the accomplishment of this goal in and of itself, but to truly make a difference at a time when the need has never been greater. The ABM Green Care program was created as a way to provide a cleaner and healthier environment, and to help decrease their customers’ environmental impact. The Green Care program has currently been implemented in over 300 million square feet of building space, including the Chicago Board of Trade Building. Some of the ways green cleaning impacts the building is through the use of environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals that meet either the stringent Green Seal or EPA approval requirements; microfiber cloths and flat mops that are sanitized nightly; energy-efficient cleaning equipment, including vacuums with HEPA filters, that meet the Green Label Certification; and hand soaps that don’t contain antimicrobial agents. It is through these efforts and others that we not only hope to decrease the building’s overall impact on the environment, but also enhance occupant comfort, health and productivity. Renovation Construction Waste – Where does it go? With the lobby renovation under way, we will be generating a large amount of construction waste. It is our intent to recycle a majority of this waste through construction waste recycling, which is the separation and reuse of waste materials generated during new construction and renovations. The most common materials are concrete, wood, drywall, metal and cardboard; these are often discarded, but are actually valuable commodities that may be recycled into new products. One of the most important steps to ensure proper recycling of construction waste is on-site separation, which is handled by our construction team, its subcontractors and our waste hauler. While the City of Chicago currently requires a minimum of 50% of construction debris to be recycled, we anticipate that nearly 85% of our waste associated with the lobby construction will be recycled and subsequently converted back into raw materials.

Letter from ManagementTHE “GO GREEN” ISSUE

Dear Tenants:

With proactive methods focused on environmental awareness and sustainability, we are changing the way our tenants, employees and service providers think about the environment in which we work and live. With a thoughtful approach to energy management, water

conservation, recycling and overall environmental stewardship, we will be bringing several exciting changes to the building over the coming months.

Through a number of initiatives, we plan to reduce annual electricity consumption at the building by approximately 2 million kWh and water consumption by 3 million gallons.

Sincerely, The GlenStar Team

Cleaning Goes GreenIn partnership with our janitorial services provider, we have implemented a comprehensive green cleaning program at the building. “Green cleaning” is generally defined as cleaning to protect health without harming the environment.

Renovation Construction Waste – Where does it go?With the lobby renovation under way, we will be generating a large amount of construction waste. Earth DayFor the last 43 years, April 22 has been known as Earth Day, a day in 1970 that many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement. It was after the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring when interest in the environment really began in earnest. Over the years, the Earth Day movement has promoted several big campaigns including clean air, clean water, endangered species and clean energy to help combat global warming. Please join us on April 22 at 9:00am in the North Lobby as we celebrate Earth Day with several handouts, including compact fluorescent light bulbs, tote bags made from 100% recycled content material, and earth-shaped stress balls.

No Smoking Ordinance“Chicago Clean Indoor Air Ordinance of 2005” took effect on January 16, 2006. On January 1, 2008, Illinois stepped up its effort for smoke-free buildings by enacting the Smoke- Free Illinois Act, prohibiting smoking in public places, places of employment, student dormitories, or within 15 feet from any form of ventilation. The following information is a reminder regarding the Act:

• Smoking is prohibited in all office spaces and all public areas within the building

• Smoking is banned within 15 feet of building entrances• We have created two (2) designated smoking areas

(on the LaSalle Street Plaza and on Financial Place)

Please ensure your staff complies with these rules to avoid any fine by the City of Chicago. To date, there have been 4 occupants in the building that have received a citation from the Chicago Police Department.

Earth HourWhat started six years ago in a single country to show national concern for the environment, soon became an international sensation. On March 23 at 8:30pm, GlenStar, the Chicago Board of Trade building and its tenants joined millions of people across 152 countries and territories for Earth Hour – a one-hour time frame when all your lights are switched off to show concern for the environment and climate change. In 2007, Sydney, Australia held the first Earth Hour with 2,100 businesses participating. By 2009, over 87 countries joined in participation and created a call to action and kick-starting the world’s first global vote. In 2012, the movement expanded further with the effort “I Will If You Will” – a movement where people post videos on Youtube.com/EarthHour to share what they would be willing to do to aid the environment, and what they would like to see in return. Thank you for your participation in Earth Hour.

Recycling Program We have partnered with Independent Recycling Services – a local family-owned and operated company with 35 years of experience – to aid in the launch of our updated recycling program. Our goal for the program is to increase the building’s recycling participation and decrease our overall environmental impact. March 1 kicked off the improved recycling program with the distribution of paper recycling bins to all building tenants. Through our expanded program, the building now actively recycles many waste materials, including electronic waste, paper, cardboard, glass, bottles, cans, toner, construction waste, light bulbs and ballasts. Additionally, tenants may now recycle alkaline batteries by submitting a ticket into our 360-work order system under Janitorial > Small Battery Recycling. If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact our Tenant Relations Administrator, Dana, at (312) 605-9179.

Building Light Retrofit In November we began our efforts to reduce energy consumption in the building through a number of lighting changes, including retrofitting all T-12 lights and ballasts in the building with T-8’s, adjusting timers and installing motion-activated lighting controls. To date, we have retrofitted approximately 50% of tenant space in the building, as well as many base building areas such as stairwells, mechanical rooms and corridors.

Misericordia Candy DayOn April 26, 2013 from 6:30am – 2:30pm, Misericordia – in conjunction with GlenStar – will host a table in the North Lobby to fundraise for the Misericordia Home. The Home provides a stable loving environment and a community of support to those who are developmentally disabled, and their families. In addition to this loving community, the Misericordia Home provides education, residence, job placements, and community awareness and advocacy.

Light It Up BlueAccording to a new survey from Center for Disease Control (CDC), 1 in 50 school-age children have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Please join GlenStar and the Chicago Board of Trade Building as we raise awareness for ASD by lighting up the Ceres statue blue for the week of April 1–7. Participants of the Autism Speaks campaign are encouraged to wear blue as well to show their support.
