PROJECT OUTLINE:Previous check surveys conducted in 2009 by Minstaff Survey commenced in the 22L West Decline and finished at 19L North Decline. The project for BEAMS was to fix both ends of this traverse to the surface mine baseline. Gyro directions from 2007, 2008, and 2010 were to be included. All data to be merged into a single calculation and 3D least squares adjustment performed.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:The Minstaff fieldwork as updated by Frank Smith (Surveying Horizons Pty Ltd – Compnet) was reviewed and accepted. Five days of fieldwork conducted by the writer Glenn Williams (BEAMS Pty Ltd) went smoothly. Daily projects were edited and working on the day they were measured. The surface baseline connection was more challenging. Observed angles and distances did not exactly match the published values of the 4 baseline stations. Long lines across a large open pit are best observed at night to minimise the effects of variable air density. A night survey was not possible, but the statutory minimum standard - ICSM SP1 Class B - was achieved by calculating with an increased standard deviation of observed angles (SD from 0.9” to 3.5”). The merged network of all surveys by BEAMS and Minstaff achieves ICSM SP1 Class Mines D. This is a high quality result that can only be achieved by a consistently high standard of field surveying.

Comparison with previous values was not part of the brief, however, a check of the lowest point in the network (station UG3792) has positional shifts of about 0.3m to confirm that no gross errors were present in the survey control network.

BEAMS ON SITE ACTIVITY SCHEDULE: Day 1 – Visitor induction. West Decline install wall stations SP4 to 12L. Day 2 - West Decline install wall stations 12L to 16L. Traverse West Dec

SP4 to 14L. 20 setups and 75 points measured. Refer to Compnet file PLU100910.

Day 3 – West Decline install wall stations 16L to 19L. Traverse 14L to 19L. 11 setups and 37 points measured. Refer to Compnet file PLU110910.

Day 4 – West Decline install wall stations 19L to 22L. Traverse 19L to 22L. Traverse joined to previous 2009 check survey. 14 setups and 45 points measured. Refer to Compnet file PLU120910.

Day 5 – North Decline install wall stations SP4 to North Vent Link Drive. Traverse SP4 to North Vent Link Drive intersection. This traverse joins previous 2009 check survey. 18 setups and 57 points measured. Refer to Compnet file PLU130910.

Day 6 – Traverse from surface Mine Baseline to underground Stockpile 4. 7 setups and 15 points measured. Refer to Compnet file PLU140910.

Day 7 – Traverse adjustment in Compnet. Merge of 2010 check survey with 2009 check survey. Refer to Compnet files BEAMS2010, MINSTAFF2009 and MERGE_ADJ2010.

THE STARTING POINT:Commence at the Surface Baseline. Reduced distance between PS4 and PLAQUE varies by 0.023m from calculated distance. Published level of PLAQUE appears to be incorrect by 2.9m. Origin of this adjustment is:

Hold published Easting and Northing of PLAQUE. Ignore published level. PLAQUE E 4122.200m, N 10850.280.

Hold published Reduced Level of PS4 and weight the Easting and Northing. PS4 E 4899.960, N 11594.561, RL 1517.819.

Hold published direction from PS4 to PLAQUE 226º 15’ 36” PP7 is included as a weighted point. A standard deviation of

0.010m is applied to Easting, Northing and RL. Updated coordinates and level are in the Compnet file MERGE_ADJ2010.

Initial traverse from Surface Baseline to underground SP4 is in Compnet file PLU140910.

This traverse passes the ICSM SP1 Class B standard for surface baselines. Long lines over variable height terrain (across the open cut) are best observed at night when conditions are more stable and effects of variable air density are minimised. High quality angles and distances were observed but lines of sight were not truly straight. A night survey was not possible, but an acceptable minimum standard has been achieved.

MERGE of DAILY TRAVERSES:To include the ‘field book’ report of all raw observations it is necessary to append the GSI files together. This is done by saving PLU140910 as BEAMS2010.GSI and appending subsequent GSI files to it. BEAMS2010 addresses file PLU140910 as a datadase for initial coordinates. Editing of superfluous starting points from weighted point file to variable point file is required after file is confirmed as working.Note: Wall station 6551 is in the overlap of 2 traverses and had to be renamed to have the merged GSI files accepted and processed. The renamed station was corrected after the variable coordinates were updated from first pass coordinates.

The duplicate name was eliminated in Compnet. No data was lost.
