Pay close attention to our newsletter and pe-riodic email blasts so that you can prepare for the October Chili Cook-off. Dig out your favorite recipes and prepare for a fun contest I’m really looking forward to it. I would urge each and every one of you to come to the Lodge and enjoy the fun, fellow-ship and reasonable food and beverage prices. We can’t keep them reasonable if you don’t participate. Have fun with your Elk brothers and sis-ters. They are the greatest people on earth.

Exalted Ruler’s Message I want you all to pay close attention to the monthly schedules in-cluded with this news-letter. There are spa-ghetti nights, taco nights, pizza nights and even a Member Appre-ciation night with 50 cent coneys. All to bring you to the Lodge and make a fun Friday night. Someplace we may even throw in a sloppy Joe, baked bean and chip night. How about a Saturday Night dance party? Put August 20 on your cal-endar because we have the Full Tilt Boogie Blues Band coming back for a weekend en-core. They have packed the house for us before and love playing at PA2 Elks! Better come early to get good seats. September brings back PER Steak nights, foot-ball and all the good stuff that Autumn brings to the Lodge. We are also scheduled to have our District VP

And the long hot summer continues. However, in the Lodge it’s cool and a lot of good things are happening. Our Blues nights have been a great success and Jazz nights are not far behind. We love the crowds and income has been better than ex-pected. Much thanks to Lee Herberger, Sally Pin-chock and their volunteer crews. The concerts will continue throughout the fall. The House Committee has decided that Friday Fish Fry will take a re-cess until September. With that, the fish fry crews of Betty Wester-field and Evelyn Logsdon have decided to retire. The whole Lodge owes them a tremendous thanks for their many long years of service to our Lodge. Betty told me that she figured 35 years was quite enough. We all agree and value their ser-vice. Look for a new im-proved Fish Fry in the fall. New items and ex-citement.

Good morning on this hot sticky day on what is turning out to be a beautiful summer. For sure we can’t complain about the weather. We had a great time at our June picnic and look forward to doing it again for our September meeting. We again ask that you bring a dish to pass and of course that ever popular white elephant gift that will be action off. The picnics are so much fun and we love spending time outside at McClumpha Park. If you can join us at noon on the 2nd Tuesday of September, I know you would have a great time and for sure you will enjoy all the great food the members provide. Our August meeting will be at the lodge at noon on 9th. On August 16th we are going to Stella’s in Ply-mouth for a luncheon at 2:00pm. This is a pay your own way activ-ity that we have enjoyed in the past. It is a good way to try differ-ent restaurants in the area while

enjoying the company of some great people. On Sunday, Sep-tember 25th we are going as a group to the Cherry Hill Village Theater to see “South Pacific” at 2:00 pm. Everyone is responsi-ble for buying their own tickets. This should be a fun afternoon so bring a friend or come by your-self and join us for an enjoyable afternoon. So as you can see, we have lots of activities planned and as usual we are always ex-cited about having new mem-bers. Come give us try, we think you will agree, we are a pretty special group. As usual, we ask that you continue to support all the activities of the Elks so that we can continue to keep our doors open. Have a great sum-mer and I will see you all around the Elks in the coming days.

Secretary's Notes Hi All Well summer is half way done and we have had a great time at the Lodge. What with Jazz and Blues, ENF Spaghetti dinners, Thursday night Burger Night and just the quick drink in the evening it has been a fun time. If you haven’t been out come on in and enjoy. I want to send out a big Thanks to those of you that responded to the late notices. Because of your dedica-tion to the Elks we have gone from 84 delinquents to 39. Also to the Trustee’s that have been calling the delinquents to encourage them to pay their dues a thank you is in or-der. We have a full calendar of events that I am sure you will find some-thing that you will enjoy so be sure to check your calendar. Also for those of you that have email you will get notices to upcoming events that perhaps did not get into the newslet-ter. Following us on Face Book is also a great place to see what is hap-pening in the Lodge. If there is anything that you would like to see come to Our Lodge, please contact any of the House Committee members. They are more than happy to present any and all ideas. ADOPT-A-VET Because of privacy laws, we will not be publishing names of Adopted Veterans. If you would like to con-tinue or start sending cards to these veterans you may do so by getting their names and addresses from me by email or letter. This would put you on the Lodge Adopt A Vet committee. Anyone may belong. Your suggested duties would be any of the following: Send them a card on their birthday Send them a card on holidays Send a letter, note or post card at any time. Give them gifts on holidays or birthdays Visits would be possible during our hospital activities

We are collecting Good, Clean used clothing for The Coalition On Temporary Shelters. This is a program for homeless people in the Cass corridor area of De-troit. C.O.T.S. accepts clothing for men, women, and Children. These places do not have room to store items so please make sure the items fit the season (fall). Please mark your items COTS or women – a scotch taped note on the bag. Thank You – Stew Israel

HOMELESS VETERAN’S We are collecting good, clean, used clothing for the Homeless Veterans shelter in the Cass corridor area of Detroit. The Veterans shelter accepts clothing for men, especially Blue Jeans, and tennis shoes. Please mark your items VETS or men – a scotch taped note on the bag. These places do not have room to store items so please make sure the items fit the season (fall). They also need linens, sheets, towels, blankets, toiletries, and other comfort items (shampoo, soap, deodorant etc.). Other items they would like to receive: Com-puters, monitors, printers, musical instruments, arts and craft supplies, We are also supporting a Veteran Shelter that has 150 apartments as transitional housing. They need household items (pots pans, plates etc. They can also use sports equipment, luggage, sports bags, video games and equipment, and exercise equipment. All items may be left in the coatroom. American Casket Flags wanted We are collecting any casket flags that were given to the families of Veterans. We will donate them to the Great Lakes National Cemetery to be flown at the en-trance to the Cemetery. If you have a flag and it is not being displayed or kept as a sacred memento we can see that it is put to good use in the avenue of flags at the entrance of the National cemetery.
