Our Mission Action Plan for 2014

TRANSCRIPT

Parish Mission

Action Plan

January 2014

Introduction

As a Christian community we believe in a God

who is ever creative, loving and who longs to

see us flourish. At St Saviour’s we are seeking to

nurture and grow this understanding of God.

We recognise that at our baptism we have been

called to be lights to the world, shining to the

glory of God. Although from generation to

generation how we express this may differ, the

eternal truth remains – that God is love. Most

importantly, in order to see where we are going

and what tools we need to get there, we

recognise that we need a common vision to

unite us.

Having reflected on the great variety of gifts and

experiences we bring to this community, and

asking ourselves what Jesus would do in this

setting here today, we have agreed that God is

calling us to live, pray and think as mature

followers, fully engaged with modern life.

This Mission Action Plan has been written to

help everyone in the parish share in our vision,

working together for the common good.

Live

Jesus said, 'I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly' (John 10.10)

Firstly, we have identified as our most important concern the need to place God at the centre of

everything we do. We believe that it is God’s church and God’s mission to the world, and that it is God

who invites us to be his co-workers and witnesses to all he has done and still does for us in Jesus.

Faith is awakened when we admit our need for God and surrender to his overwhelming love, when we

live no longer for ourselves but for him, and allow his Spirit to work in us.

Pray

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 96.6)

Secondly, we acknowledge that life is a journey, a pilgrimage, and that God calls us together to help

each other on the road which we believe will lead us one day to Heaven.

Confidence in God is nurtured when we actively express this support by focussing on prayer, study and

offering a safe place to explore life’s big questions. Worship should strengthen our sense of being a

community guided by God, and we believe that all should have the chance to grow deeper in their

faith.

Think

The one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also

reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9.6)

Thirdly, we believe that God loves everyone equally, and that we are called to be all-embracing too.

We recognise though that we live in a world of great inequality, and that as the Body of Church we are

all called to address this, sharing the Good News with everyone we meet.

As actions speak louder than words, we seek to witness to our faith not by preaching and teaching

alone, but also by practical deeds that will really benefit the wider community. We acknowledge that

our greatest strength is our membership, and all have duty to use our resources for mission.
