Barbara Hubbardwomen
Barbara Hubbard owns and runs three women’s fashion stores in
Sidney.
“Over the years I expanded to various locations including Vancouver
and have now ended up in Sidney alone as I love the place, love my
dedicated staff and consider myself ‘general overseer’ of the entire
operation,” she says. “Right from the start I have wanted to create
a company that is healthy, fulfi lls a need in the community and can
pay its bills. So far I have succeeded and am proud of this achieve-
ment. I do the buying of fashion merchandise in Europe by myself
and have the help of my staff for the North American merchandise
that we sell.”
Barbara has also been a member of the Pacifi c Opera Victoria Board
for more than 14 years. “I am delighted to see their continued
success and artistic growth. Needless to say, opera is one of my
passions.”

How long have you been in business?I opened the fi rst little boutique in downtown Victoria in 1984.
How do you fi nd balance in your life?Looking back I don’t know how I could have done everything that I
did. Raising children, husband, school activities, often being away
from home in pursuit of just the right merchandise for my custom-
ers.
Balance? Good family and good friends; being part of various
boards which took me away from my daily pursuits and put me in
touch with people I would not have met otherwise and sharing their
interests. School boards, theatre boards and my special interest —
Pacifi c Opera Victoria Board. Many outdoor activities have been
part of my life; ski mountaineering, skiing, hiking, kayaking, golf-
ing, and cooking is something I love. Now I am involved in taking
classical accordion lessons which means making time every day for
practice. It does balance me!
What have you learned that you would like to have been able to share with the “younger you”?When an ugly problem confronts you, don’t act immediately —

If you weren’t in your present career, what would you be doing?I can’t imagine.
