February 2019

Dear Friends of TreesGreenville,

I’m excited to share our 2018 Annual Report with you. TreesGreenville has planted over 6,750 trees in and around Greenville County since 2005. We use iTree, a peer reviewed software suite developed by the USDA Forest Service, to quantify the economic impact and environmental benefits of the trees planted.

Here are some highlights of forecasted benefits for the 6,751 trees we’ve already planted:

Return on Investment

• Total 25-Year Benefits = $2,222,059• Remove 18+ million pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere• Capture 131+ million gallons of stormwater runoff

Planting a tree is just the beginning. We get economic and ecological benefits from mature trees. Trees need proper care and maintenance to survive, grow and thrive. Last year, TreesGreenville completed an assessment of the trees we’ve planted and created management plans to promote tree health and long-term survival. This summer, TreesGreenville’s Youth Tree Care Crew will continue to help our site partners with care and maintenance.

Plant • We planted 816 trees in 2018.• With your support, we’ll continue to plant trees at schools, neighborhoods, parks and

greenspaces with an emphasis on areas with little to no existing canopy.

Promote• 816 mature trees will remove the equivalent of about 8.9 million miles of car emissions, each

year!• Annually, 816 mature trees will also capture about 408,000 gallons of stormwater.

Protect• Through Tree Keepers and our partnership with Trees SC and Clemson Extension, our impact is

statewide.• Tree Keepers is a workshop we offer throughout South Carolina that trains industry

professionals on how to properly install and maintain trees based on industry standards.

Thank you. Your support has helped us plant 6751 trees and provide the care and maintenance they need to grow and thrive.

Best,

Joelle TeacheyExecutive Director, TreesGreenville

P.S. Curious about the TreesUpstate logo? Air quality doesn’t recognize the county line! Next planting season, we’ll plant 100 trees at Spartanburg County Schools in partnership with the Noble Tree Foundation. Stay tuned for more news on how we’re growing!
