1. Display - TheLCDisyourwindowintothepowerofthePODHD500.

Home Pages -arethedefaultviewonyourPOD.Thereare3user-selectable views or the Home Page.

The Signal Flow View shows you all the amp and eects model"blocks" in your signal chain. From this view you can edit or move

anycomponentaffectingyourtoneinthesignalpath.Usethe4 Way 

Nav Pad toselectanAmp,FX,orLooperblock.AtthebottomoftheSignalFlowViewscreen,aswellasinmostotherscreens,you’llseeupto our parameters that are accessed using the Multi-Function Knobs -theseparametersarespecictothecurrentlyselectedBlock. 

Press the VIEW button to switch ocus to the Performance View. ThisscreendisplaystheFXand/orPresetsthatarecurrentlyassignedtoyourPODHD500footswitchesFS1 through FS8. Footswitches FS4 - FS8 canbeconguredtoeithertoggleFXBlocks4-8On/Off,orprovideinstant access to the A, B, C, D Preset channels within the current

BankviatheSetupPages(PressandHoldthe HOME button to accessSystemPages).

Press the VIEW button once more to show the Big User View, whichshows you the bank and channel number where the current preset isstored.

Edit Pages - These pages show all parameters available to tweak or aprocessingblockorsystemsetuppage.FromtheSignalFlowView,youcan double press ENTER to access an edit page or the current selectionblock.Seetheadvancedguideavailableonlineformoreinformation.

2. Presets Knob / Set Lists Button -Turn this knob to select through allo the stored presets. Presets are saved in groups called Set Lists makingiteasyto keepdifferent presetsgroupedfor specicapplications.To

load a new Set List, press the Set Lists button and use the 4-Way Nav to highlight a Set List.Highlightinga Set List provides options orloading and re-naming Set Lists, as well as re-ordering the presetsstored within the Set List. NOTE:Whenre-orderingpresetsyoumustpress the Set Lists button in order to save any changes.

3. Save Button - Press this button to save changes to a actory preset oryour very own custom creations – every preset location is available tobeoverwritten.UsetheMulti-Function knobs to rename the preset

and select the Set List and preset location. Press the SAVE buttonagain to complete the save operation. Press any other button to cancel.

4. View Button -Pressthisbuttontoswitchfromanyofthe3userselectableHome Pageviews –Signal Flow View,Big User View, orPerformance

View. Press and hold the VIEW button to access the SYSTEM & I/O

edit pages where you can assign the Display contrast,congureinputs/outputs and assign the control behavior o your ootswitches.

5. 4 Way Nav Pad -UsedtomovethroughoptionswithinthevariouspagesofPODHD500.Pressthepadleft,right,up,anddowntohighlightitems in the Display . This pad is also used to navigate through multiplepages.

6. Move Button - Press this to perorm various move unctions. From theSignal Flow View you can use the 4 Way Nav to highlight items in thesignal chain. Pressing the MOVE Button allows you to “grab” that itemand move it elsewhere in the signal path by using the 4 Way Nav. Pressthe MOVE Button again to “drop” the item into its new position.

From the Set List page you can use the MOVE button to reposition

presetstoanewSetListormemorylocation.

Double-press theMOVE button to assign a controller to any eectsblock parameter.

Note:TheLooperandAmpModelshavesomeconditionalbehaviorregardingtheirplacementinthesignalow.SeetheAdvancedUserGuidefordetails.

7. Enter (ON/OFF) Button – WhileinSignal Flow view, press this buttontoturneffectsblocksonoroff.Double-pressENTER to access deep editpages.Deepeditpagesdisplayalloftheeditableparametersassociated

withthehighlightedblock.HoldENTER to bring ocus to Foot SwitchAssign mode.

The ENTER button is also used to load Set Lists and presets.

8. Multi-Function Knobs – These our knobs provide controls or variousfunctionalitydependingon thedisplay’scurrentfocus, but generallyspeaking the knobs will control parameters displayed in the lowerquarter o the main display as ollows: Knob 1 controls the upper letparameter, Knob 2 controls the lower let parameter, Knob 3 controls

the upper right parameter, and Knob 4 controls the lower rightparameter.PleaserefertotheAdvancedUserGuideformoredetail.

9. Drive - DRIVE is like the gain knob on most amps; controlling howmuch“dirt”ordistortionyougetinthesound.PODHD500canrunup to two amps at once so make sure you select the amp you want to beadjustingwiththeampcontrol(viatheCTL:Ampparameter)beforeturning the DRIVE knob.

10. Tone Controls - BASS, MID, TREBLE and PRESENCE controls arecustomizedfor each Amp Model togiveyou optimaltonalcontrol.Whenyouturnanyoftheseknobs,thedisplaywillbrieyshowthecurrent settings o the DRIVE, BASS, MID, TREBLE and PRESENCE knobs. Remember, when running two amps to be sure to select the ampyou want to adjust beore turning these knobs.

11. Volume Knob - This adjusts the output level o your selected ampmodel without aecting the tone or distortion characteristic o theamp model.

12. Master Volume Knob - ThiscontrolstheoveralloutputlevelofPOD

HD500, including the headphone level. Changing the MASTERVOLUME level does not change your tone, so you can get the tone youwant at any volume level. This setting is global and is not saved whenyoustoresettingsintothePODHD500memorylocations.

Note: POD HD500 will generally give the best signal-to-noiseperormance when you have the MASTER VOLUME control atmaximum.WiththeMASTER VOLUME control turned down low, youmaygetextrahiss–whichobviouslyisn’twhatyouwant–ifyouturnupyourmixerorrecorder’soutputtocompensate.Inordertoallowyou to set the MASTER VOLUME as high as possible when connecting

to recording, mixing, and other studio gear, be sure you are pluggingPOD HD500 1/4-inch outputs into line level, not microphone orguitarlevelinputs.LinelevelinputsshouldallowyoutoturnPODHD500MASTER VOLUME up all the way (or close to it) and therebygetthebestsoundpossible.Ifyourgearhasinputsthatfunctionasmic/line level inputs, try to set the trim or those inputs to the minimumlevel,andPODHD500MASTER VOLUME to maximum, when settinglevels. There is also a switch which allows you to set the line outputs to

amp (instrument) or line level.

Having said all that, it is recommended that you start with theMASTER VOLUME control set to minimum and slowly turn thecontrol clockwise towards maximum beore any audio clipping (thebad kind o distortion) occurs.

13. Foot Switches - In standard operation your oot switches work asollows:

Bank Up, Down - Thesechooseamongst16banksofpresetsinyourcurrent Set List. Once you've navigated your way to a new bank, stepon the A, B, C or DFootSwitchtoactuallyloada presetfromthatbank.

FS 1- FS 4 - (Top row) These assignable oot switches turn the eectsandampmodelsonoroffjustlikeaMIDIcontrollerorboardfullofanalog pedals.

A, B, C & D - ( Bottom row) From the actory these oot switches provideinstant access to presets A-D rom the current bank selected. You can

change this behavior in the SYSTEM & I/O pages to provide ouradditionalassignableon/offcontrols.Eveninthismode(FS 5-8) youcan still access presets by pressing the Bank Up, Down Footswitches.Pressing either the Bank Up, Down Footswitches cues the current bankor access to A, B, C or D – loading the preset causes the ootswitchesto instantly revert to FS 5-8 mode.

Tap Tempo - StompingtheTAP button a ew times sets the tempoo all eects with the TAPfeatureassignedtothem.Mosttime-basedeffectsinPODHD500canhavetheTAP setting aect parameters settoaspecicnotevalue.PressandholdTAP to enter Tuner Mode.Nowyou've got a ancy chromatic tuner in your Display .

Looper - EquipsyourPODHD500withupto48secondsofloopingcapability. The PRE/POST ootswitch allows you to set your looprecording and playback either beore amp and eects modeling or ater(LEDoff=PRE,LEDon=POST).Recordingin PREmode(LEDoff)let’syourecordyourguitar,thenauditionvariouseffectswithyourloopplaying back, while recording in POSTmode(LEDon)capturesyouramp and eects in the loop and then layer dierent sounds by changingpresets.StompREC/OVERDUB to start recording a loop then stomp

PLAY/STOP to end loop and immediately start playback. You canoverdub additional parts by again, stomping the REC/OVERDUB switch.StompPLAY/STOP to stop or start playback. I you make amistake on your last overdub press UNDOtoeraseit.Use1/2 SPEED atanytimetodoublethelooptimenormallyavailableatFullSpeedandhear playback at hal the original loop speed - this changes the pitch o everything down 1 octave too. Press REVERSE to hear your playbackbackwards-xirdneHimiJekiltsuJ.YoucanexitLooper Mode even

when a loop is still playing to switch presets or turn amps and eectson/offandreturnbacktoaddadditionalloops.Howcoolisthat?

ThefactorydefaultsettingsfortheLooperDisplayisALL VIEWS. I the user wants to set it to PERFORMANCE VIEW then it will onlyshowinthedisplaywhileinthismode.Thebenettothedefaultis the user will always know i they're in looper mode or not. ThePERFORMANCE VIEW setting has the benet of being able tomanipulate model parameters while looping.

Note: Changing the state o the PRE/POST ootswitch while the loopis playing back can dramatically change the volume, so be careul!

14. Expression Pedals - The lights to the let o this pedal show when anExpression Pedal is engaged and active. The pedal equipped on yourPODHD500cantogglebetweenEXP 1 and EXP 2 unctionality viathepedal’s integratedtoeswitch.Youcanadda secondExpression

Pedal to give simultaneous controls o  EXP 1 and EXP 2 via thePEDAL 2InputonthebackofyourPODHD500.Youcanassignthesepedals or Volume, Wah, or to tweak multiple parameters o any eectsand amp models in your signal path.

15. Pedal 2 - Connectastandardexpressionpedal,suchastheLine6EX-1, and you'll be able to assign it to control the Volume,Wahoreffectsparameter unctions.

16. Guitar In - Plug your guitar cable in here. I you are using high gain oractive pickups you may want to set the Guitar In switch on the top o yourPODHD500toPAD. There's really no rule, use what sounds best.

17. CD/MP3 Input - ConnectaCDplayer,MP3player,drummachineor other device here, and you’ll hear it through the PHONES,UNBALANCED OUTPUT and BALANCED OUTPUT.Useyour

device’s outputcontrolto adjust thevolumerelative toyour guitartone.Startwiththevolumeon yourdeviceat itslowest settingandbring it up to the volume you desire.

18. Unbalanced Output -connect1/4"cablesheretosendyoursoundtoaguitaramplier,recorder,mixerorPAsystem.Setthe1/4" OUT switchontopofyourPODHD500toAMP when sending to a guitar amp orLINEfordeviceswith-10dBVinputstypicalofmixersandrecorders.

19. Balanced Output - connectbalancedXLRcableshereforan idealconnection to digital recorders or as direct sends to the house mixer orPAwhenplayinglive.Ifyouareexperiencinghumsandbuzzes,setthe

XLRswitchontopofyourPODHD500toLIFT to eliminate groundloops between your equipment.

20. Phones - Plug headphones in here. The volume is set by the MASTER VOLUMEknob.Alwaysusesafelisteningpractices,startingwithalowlevel and turning up rom there i you need more volume.

21. Aux In -Thismono,unbalanced1/4"inputcanbeusedforasecondguitarorjustaboutanyotherinstrument.VisittheSYSTEM & I/O editpages or AUX IN routing options.

22. Mic Input - plug in your microphone here and use the MIC LEVEL controltogetanice,healthylevel.VisittheSYSTEM & I/O edit pagesor routing options.

23. Effects Loop - providesastereo(whenusingaTRScable) FX SEND and a stereo FX RETURN.SettheFX LOOP LEVEL switch to LINE tooperate at higher peak-to-peak voltage, making it optimal or line leveldevices. The loop can also be used with stomp boxes by setting the FX

LOOP LEVEL switch to STOMP.

24. Variax Digital Interface -this input provides power and a direct digital

audioconnectionbetweenaLine6VariaxguitarorbassandthePODHD500.VisittheSYSTEM & I/O edit pages to assign signal routingoptions.

When you arereadyto connecta Variax,useonlyLine6 suppliedVariax-compatiblecables–notstandardEthernetorothercables–toavoid damage to the jack.

Bank & Channel Footswitches:PODHD500alsooffersPresetselectioncompletely “hands-free” by wayofthe Bank Up ,BankDown  and Channel A, B, C, D (FS5 - FS8)Footswitches.Notethatyou’llneedto set the System - FS Mode setting to “ABCD” to allow FS5 - FS8 toinstantly access the Channel locations. Press the A, B, C or D switch toinstantly recall its Channel location within the currently selected Bank. NavigatethroughBanksbypressingtheBankUp andBankDown  footswitchandyou’llseetheQueuedBankscreendisplayed.ThenpresstheA, B, C or D ootswitch to load the respective Preset rom the desired Bank.
