Sea Hunt Up again, down again,
Down to the beach again,
Go diving and diving,
Searching for seaweed.
Down again, up again,
Down to the beach again,
Go swimming and swimming,
Diving for pearls.

Deep Sea Squeeze
by Eric Ode
I’m wrapped from top to bottom
in an octopus embrace
with seven arms around my waist
and one across my face.
It all began this morning
with a scuba diving trip.
I found the creature wedged beneath
a sunken pirate ship.
So, carefully, I dug him free.
He offered no objection
but covered me in tentacles
with octopus affection.
It seems I’ve made a friend today,
but this I’d like to know:
How do you say, in octopus,
“You’re welcome. Please let go”?

Fish by Mary Ann Hoberman
Look at them flit
Lickety-split
Wiggling
Swiggling
Swerving
Curving
Hurrying
Scurrying
Chasing
Racing
Whizzing
Whisking
Flying
Frisking
Tearing around
With a leap and a bound
But none of them making the tiniest
tiniest tiniest
tiniest tiniest
sound.

Fish Pretty little goldfish
Never can talk.
All it does is wiggle
When it tries to walk!

Down by the sea -
there!
in the shallows,
fish, thin as silver needles,
stitching
lacy seaweed.

Ocean Motion Let’s make the motion of the ocean!
Jiggle like a jelly fish
Creep like a sea snail
Soar like an eagle
Wiggle like an eel
Float like a sea otter
Bark like a seal
Walk forward, backward,
and sideways like a crab.

Five Little Shells Five little shells,
Laying on the shore,
Crash went the waves,
And then there were four.
Four little shells,
Down by the sea,
Crash went the waves,
And then there were three.
Three little shells,
Smooth as new,
Crash went the waves,
And then there were two.
Two little shells,
Sparkling in the sun,
Crash went the waves,
And then there was one.
One little shell
Left by itself,
I took it home
And put it on my shelf.

Seahorse Scales
and a tail
like a question mark:
a snout,
and a seahorse
bobs about.

An octopus has 8 long arms.
It lives in the sea,
But do not be alarmed!
He squirts out ink,
When he is the prey.
And grows a new arm
When it’s torn away.

I found a great big shell one day
Upon the ocean floor
I held it close up to my ear
I heard the ocean roar!
I found a tiny shell one day
Upon the ocean sand
The waves had worn it nice and smooth
It felt nice in my hand.
