At our very first meeting, the students knew pretty early, that they wanted to give back to someone less fortunate. Plans were made to create a poetry book with photos about poverty. It was the students’ mission to create and give back. The students have studied photography and poetry. They’ve learned that photos can convey meaning and spark an array of emotions. They’ve also gained an understanding of the significance of poetry and how poems are an important part of our lives.Through photography and poetry our students have become “poetic photojournalists”. Through this experience the students wanted to make people more aware of poverty in our communities. They have written several poems and have taken several photos to bring awareness to this problem and hope our communities will do a better job to give. Our students have compassionate hearts and have a giving spirit.

We used colorful sentence strips and posted words on our display board and on the white board in front of the classroom.
