Jabberwocky Video Clip 4. What is a metaphor? A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object to which it is not literally applicable 5. What is a simile?Comparing two unrelated things using like or as 6. What is personification? Giving human characteristics to inanimate objects 7. Small Group Discussion In groups of 2 or 3 please brainstorm at least one reason why authors use metaphors/similes/personification in their writing 8. Why Use Figurative Language? 1. Phrases can stand for many things at once 2. Reader can interpret their own meaning3. More interesting to read 4. Opens up imagination and creative thinking 9.
