    Delta Blues

    *****

The Man who made the guitar talk,

He played the blues and walked the walk,

One day whilst his guitar in hand,

He came across a Devil man,

    *****

The Devil tuned his six string true,

The true cost though nobody knew,

It turned into the Faustian Myth,

The cost, his soul he had to give,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    *****

From that day on his he worked the chords,

To righteous praise, and much applause,

    On corners buskin for passersby,

His blues could make the hardest cry,

    *****

The Mississippi flowed in his veins,

The Delta blues it’s given name,

He died deep in a mystery,

His grave unknown for us to see,

    *****

Was he killed, or poisoned so,

In time I guess we’ll never know,

Inflections in his voice were clear,

A sound so beautiful to hear,

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

He’s touch your soul and hold it tight,

The cost, his own soul, sold that night,

The Devil gained, but so did we,

The gift to us, his misery,

    *****

His gentle words, his heartfelt song,

We’re glad that Johnson came along,

    He influenced so many greats,

His own life though, quite the state,

    *****

We’ll never know quite why he left,

The blues were left rather bereft,

From Juke Joints with guitar in hand,

For Delta Blues, he was the man.

    The Rolling Stone

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    10/77

    *****

    A multi-talented,

    Musician and man,

    To reach the World,

    With music, his plan,

    *****

    To form a band,

    With whom to roam,

    The name they chose,

    The Rolling Stones,

    *****

    He got the gigs,

    He chose the band,

    The songs he wrote,

    He was the man,

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    11/77

    But soon it came,

    For all to see,

    The drink, the drugs,

    The misery,

    *****

    A loss to all,

    Such a young age,

    But then the drugs,

    Was all the rage?

    *****

    His fall from grace,

    Cost him his place,

    The band they sought,

    To replace,

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    He couldn’t tour,

    He couldn’t fly,

    No visa granted,

    We all know why,

    Jimi Hendrix

Died 27 yrs old Sept 18th

     1970

    Experience the Haze

    *****

    Born November ’42,

He showed the word what guitars could do,

    Taken aged just 27,

A life cut short, but rose to heaven,

    *****

    Thinking that until fifteen,

No guitar with him we’d seen,

A broom his instrument of choice,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    14/77

All those years without a voice,

    *****

    He started out acoustically,

His skills drowned out quite deafeningly,

Until that time he struck a chord,

A genius born, the World’s reward,

    *****

    Feedback, wah wah, even fire,

    Electrification of his new desire,

From back up to so many names,

His own Experience brought the fame,

    *****

The sounds we heard in disbelief,

Behind the back and with his teeth,

He was the star with his own band,

    In Electric Ladyland,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    15/77

    *****

At Woodstock with his casual manner,

He struck up with the Star Spangled Banner,

    He was Mr. Phenomenon,

Such a great loss and too soon gone,

    *****

We recall him on those lazy days,

To sit in our own Purple Haze,

The Legend lost as many are,

A true great, took music so far,

    *****

Hey Joe we play in tribute to,

The Wind Cries Mary just for you,

So let us thank the Lord Above,

    For Hendrix’s psychedelic love,

And next time we pick up a guitar,

Look up to see a real Rock Star.

    Painter, dancer,

    So much more,

    Psychedelic,

    Music score,

    *****

    A talent,

    And a joy to see,

    Big Brother and,

    Holding Company,

    *****

    It soon came clear,

    She needed more,

    A speed freak,

    Who was known to score?

    At Woodstock in,

    Her final year,

    She was the voice,

    We loved to hear,

    *****

    Full Tilt Boogie Band,

    Gone too soon,

    Don’t understand,

    Inspired the World,

    *****

    The future greats,

    Like Stevie Nicks,

    But yet her fate,

    Was sealed in an overdose,

    *****

    Her voice not matched,

    Not even close,

    Summertime,

    Piece of my Heart,

    We lost a Pearl,

    Too soon to part.

    RIDER ON THE STORM

    *****

James Morrison stood proud and tall,

A Young Lion, before the fall,

The most iconic frontman of all,

A loss so great, a life so small,

    *****

    27 years of life,

    Nomadic existence, drug fuelled strife,

Taken from the Earth so quick,

His footprint on us all still sticks,

    *****

    From reading books on poetry,

    To works of obscure philosophy,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    23/77

His own work put together well,

In music, his heaven and Hell,

    *****

    A wild front man, rebellious,

Instigating riots in all of us,

    The spoken word of poetry,

    While the Doors played heavily,

    *****

From Break on Through to Light my Fire,

The patterned words, his one desire,

Psychedelic drugs caused him to derange,

No wonder he thought People Strange,

    *****

His years of rooftop Venice Beach,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    24/77

His stature grew, the crowds to reach,

    A reader of existentialist,

His teachers checked his reading list,

    *****

As time passed by he turned to drink,

To drugs also, his mood would sink,

Hello I love you we all know,

Where there’s no Jim, there ain’t no show.

    Nevermind

For Generation X, he was the voice,

It certainly was not his choice,

From fame he turned to hide his face,

A man music could not replace,

    *****

At 14 years he had a choice,

He chose guitar, and we rejoice,

Just think if he had picked a bike,

We may never have seen his like,

    *****

His parent’s divorce caused him shame,

Perhaps he was never the same,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    27/77

    But luckily after some time,

He formed a band of a new kind,

    *****

Nirvana born, a band of three,

    He offered All Apologies,

From Sub Pop Bleach, to Nevermind,

It spawned a genre, a new kind,

    *****

    Generation X loved Grunge,

But fame caused Cobain’s health to plunge,

He turned to drugs, to get away,

Then on one sad April day

    *****

He took a gun, he loaded it,

His life, he took, one final hit,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    28/77

He left the World, he left the band,

    What nobody could understand,

    *****

His note of suicide would say,

Better burn out than fade away,

    And though his legacy remains,

Music moved on and tastes they changed,

    *****

But take a moment just to hear,

    The music, lyrics, sometimes unclear,

    Emotion put in every song,

A worshipped man, what did go wrong?

    *****

Why did he leave, he had so long,

The truth perhaps we’ll never know,

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    29/77

Death the curtain to his life’s show.

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    31/77

    Back to Black

In the end there was no rehab,

That could save a tortured soul,

A blue eyed soul, soul singer,

Lost in a life of rock and roll,

    *****

    Alcohol and drug use,

    Problems with her weight,

    The help poor Amy needed,

    Its arrival, far too late,

    *****

She grew up in a house of jazz,

    A singer she would be,

A beehive weave upon her head,

    Distinctive certainly

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    32/77

    *****

    Her Cleopatra makeup,

    The tattoos that she bore,

The turmoil in her life that was,

    What the public saw,

    *****

    Yet listen to her music,

    The words, the melody,

    The inspiration that she gave,

    Is clearly there to see,

    *****

    Multiple award winner,

    Songs that topped the charts,

Remember that and not the drugs,

    Are what set her apart?

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    33/77

    Life lost at 27,

The pain etched on her face,

A singer with a neo soul voice,

    We have never yet replaced,

    *****

I cheated myself like I knew I would

I cheated myself like I knew I could

we all have our cross to hold

    and our secret addictions

My tears they dry on their own

whilst there are no accurate predictions

    *****

They tried to make me go to rehab

    It lasted fifteen minutes

I explained I’m drunk because I’m in love

    Id messed up my relationship

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    34/77

    And id reached my limits

    *****

Music is music I'm not trying to be anything but myself

I reject your Neo Soul and all your labels

I just sing from the heart and that dark place

    inside

No lessons learnt, no moral fables

    *****

Her tears they dried on their own,

    Her conscience not too clearly

    Rehab she clearly lacked,

    Her new soul to Valerie,

    Then faded back to ???

    The Beat Generation Gig

    BOB DYLAN

    Born as Robert Zimmerman

    Bob Dylan better known,

    His talent as a songwriter

    is around the world renown.

    *****

    An American folk-singer,

    Woody Guthrie inspired.

    Protestor, artist, activist,

    ‘Beat’ Generation admired.

    *****

    Inscrutable and unpredictable

    Allusive poetic words.

    Literary masterpieces,

    Hit songs for The Byrd’s

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    *****

    Songs like Chimes of Freedom,

All I Really Want to Do,

    Mr. Tambourine Man,

It’s All over Now Baby Blue.

    *****

    Music that has meaning,

    Songs for the common man,

    That fights against injustice,

And for freedom take a stand.

    *****

    Allen Ginsberg’s howling,

    And Kerouac’s on the road.

    Woody Guthrie why, oh why,

    On Desolation Row.

    *****

    Contemporaries respect him,

    The lesser come and go,

    But Dylan’s music never dies,

I forgot more than you’ll ever know.

    POETRY BY THE TWO BEATS

    Pray Rubblaud & Bray Burdroy

    *****

    Down the street

Down The street where I was a walking

    The day was turning Black

    The daylight was a fallin

    There was no turning back

    *****

I saw miniscule Sunlight in the distance

    It was fading very fast

    Global warming was upon us

It was surely here to last

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    39/77

    *****

We’ve been warning governments so long

    No one seemed to care

But now it’s here among us

Of this I’m sure we are all aware

    *****

Our Governments have instigated this through

    Negligent intelligence scams

It’s time to make a stance on this,

    or our world

    will come to pass

    *****

Were in a state of Anarchy our children

    don’t understand

we must all put a stop to this

    and clear their future path.

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    40/77

    *****

It was a midsummer night and the leaves were

    a falling from the trees

The seasons had reversed on us but no

    one had made a stand

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    41/77

    Acquiesce

    I stood beside the river

    Casting my breath

    Whilst the girls sweet recital

    Twists my shallow head

    With knowing

    *****

    Resisting trips that were

    Sailing for the mist

Like a ship caught in a clinched fist

    and a lovers tryst

as the weather vane was blowing

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    42/77

    Peeling off

    One last layer of skin

    as the venom descends to

strip me of the boy within

    *****

    The thoughts of Messiah

And the lady of the sea

    With Angelo and Dean

    Could have sculptured our heartache

    *****

    Through a misforgiven legend

    On a unicorn steed

    Raven black indeed

With a smile made the clouds bleed

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    43/77

    Far from the fury

    Calming these the turbulent shores

    Like a Helen of Troy

    Above the water she walks

    *****

She laughed at Sodom and Gomorrah

    Fought Hadean an thieves

    With the presence of tomorrow

    She leaves

As she works out your torture

    *****

In the autumn of my conscious

    Drawing whispering breaths

    On a bed of death

    Slowly I'm drifting

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    44/77

    Electricity enters

    Tornados on the street

Now the steels to the heat

    Lips of scarlet are lifting

    *****

In the kiss of the twilight

    Hearing Gabriel’s choir

    Feeling Lucifer’s fire

    The epiphany holds me

    *****

    Through the book of Leviticus

    And Ezekiel 25/17

    and my dreams

I hear what they told me

    *****

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

I'll be resting near the shoreline

Destined for those words that they spin...........

    Astrid

    Girl, the overheads run dim

    It’s almost telling us somehow

Our lovers slumber twinned with sin

    Was all worth it anyhow

    *****

    You instigated light and fire

Walked the shape shift treading dawn

    Held the premise of messiah

Stood and laughed before the storm

    *****

When Calais lighthouse beam grows thin

I'll ignite beacons on the shore

    my serendipity within

gives me reason to do more

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    47/77

    *****

And when Dutch windmills list the light

My message travels thru the night

and when the tulips hear my song

It may be far between, but always all along

    *****

With the crashing of the ocean

    Bearing all of my emotions

Making all my words sound cogent

    Risk assess her potent potion

    *****

Getting bigger than I ever planned it be

playing horns up on the gallery

Blowing hearts never thought I'd stand to see

    Just like Amy singing Valerie

    Rub- laud

I passed three men this morning

Three.... a beggar, priest and clown

And in sunlight’s birth I yawned an

Spun my web and looked around

    *****

    The second preached a sermon

    But I'm not a congregation

As the pastor burned in flames, well

I could sense his loss of faith, but then

    *****

    The clown spoke of Deuteronomy

and all the things he could have been

    Of sadness twinned with comedy

    Of lipstick and monotony

  • 8/18/2019 POETRY FROM THE 27 CLUB

    49/77

    *****

    The beggar’s voice was deeper

and I noticed that his feet were

bare and bloodied but his need, it

    seemed didn’t fear the reaper

    *****

But still I walked on forward

    The less fortunate ignored, and

Later to blind eyes it came to me

    A vision of the Trinity.....

    Bridge

    Underneath a bridge

    A viaduct of junk

    Perched on boredoms ledge

    A sight unseen

    A life unsung

    Clouds

The clouds were cheating Evenings Empire

In their rank an dormant way

    Playing treason to the glory

    Of a psychedelic day

    *****

    Streets were paved with colours

    Of transcendental rain

As a bow without a knot

Invades a forest filled with pain.

    *****

    We were feeding on utopia

    Eloping with the night

    We danced before the storm

To climb electric veins of light

For in a world inspiring sorrow

    When perceptions doors were cleansed

Our minds would trance into tomorrow

    a night that never ends

    *****

    Our cause pristine and indestructible

    Breathing wisdom, peace and truth

    A new lysergic generation

    In the purity of youth

    *****

For when the boredom of reality

    Started cutting like a knife

Then we would drink from an elixir

    With the potency of life

And when our minds began retreating

T'ward the sanctuary of the soul

    Then the rhythm started beating

    Once again we'd lose control

    *****

    Listening to the colours

    Tasting sight and sound

    Treading ancient paths

Far from the policies of now

    Beatniks of imagination

    and in our prospects lay

    The spirit of free future

We were born to seize the day.

    *****

    Our vision then was legendary

    Experience our muse

    And with our liberated freedom

We understood the right to choose

    *****

Now as we scribe our runes of protest

On the dark side of the moon

Our minds are drifting into focus

We will be among you soon.......

    Lullaby

    Met her drowned in dreads

Conversed in the word of love

Man, did she fuck my head

We were sinning in the name of

    *****

She said a fairytale am I

    Dusty dream and lucid thought

    Live for weekend high

Smoked the herb but never caught

    *****

    When I saw her laughing

    Man, she laughed so well

    Nights were Latin draped

    In satin

    Steeped in caffeine

    Indian herbs and carousels

    Kept the stoned out hour

Held it in our open hand

    She was midnights flower

    *****

Spaced out like the deserts sands

    Beautiful but always leaving

    Guess she was my waterfall

    Wolf in sheepskin all deceiving

    Lullaby slammed to the wall.....

    *****

Now don't think she was anyone

    Only made of moonlight

Thru the portals of the sun

    Stars shone in the daytime....

    Trip

She was a beacon of the night

    An unknown source emitting light

Like a sirens song, she led me in

    Ship tore upon the rocks

    *****

    Lost innocence begins

    Redemption always overloads

It crashes down just like a wave,

    on a forgotten cove

    *****

But when justice sees its price

It hands the ferryman his silver

    Placed upon my eyes

So like a songbird on dawn’s fence

    I'm heading south

    Headlong into consequence

    *****

Pay the piper, once they preached

    I like the fortage

But the resonance feels out of reach

    *****

    Time unravels and unfolds

Belief in vengeance is a dish

    That I serve cold

    And purgatory

    Does not scare me

Cos I'll meet there some night maybe

Those who burned and whipped and flayed me

    *****

So take your halo from the drawer

Wear it proud and sing once more

And when you hear the twilight whisper

It will remind me that I kissed her

    Down by the river............................

    Progress

    Fathers were hacking down trees

    in the forest

    and mothers polluting the sea

    children governed by TV

    *****

    Animals ruled the streets

    Sidewalks they crumbled

    As death bells rumbled

    For a planet admitting defeat

    Disease infiltrated

    As youths were castrated

The insects converged on the cities

    Innocence died

    Cinderblocks

Walking thru cinderblocks and other broken stones

Will you reach and take my hand

My mind all destitute, my futures where it roams

Until it all turns into sand

    *****

Sing me a lullaby from lost forgotten times

Give me the haven of the womb

Reduce my memory to sweet recited rhymes

Back to the prism of my youth
