Setup your paper:•At the top, write your name in the right
corner.
•Write “Poetry Notes” in the middle of the top.
•Make two columns on your paper. Draw a line between.
•Terms will go on the left. Definitions will go on the right.

#2 Acrostic Type of poem in which the first letter of each line spells a word.Example: Can’t Avoid Trouble
#3 Stanza Group of lines in a poem.
#4 Alliteration Repeating sounds at the start of each word.
Example:She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
#5 Onomatopoeia Imitates the sound it describes.
Example:flush, zoom, meow, bang
#6 Personification Gives human traits to nonhumans.
Example:The flag danced in the wind.
#7 Simile Comparison using like or as.
Example:I slept like a baby.She’s as cute as a button.
#8 Metaphor Comparison not using like or as.
Example:The snow blankets the earth.
