Students Being Taught

• 10th grade students in a regular Ed. English class

• 18 students total, 3 have mild ADHD, 4 Hispanic, and 2 students were in resource English in 9th grade

Main Objective

• Students will understand the meanings a given poem, summarize it in different forms, and be able to explain why it means something to them by working in groups, through social media devices, and “acting out” the poem, with 100% accuracy, by the end of a five day week.

Breakdown

• Monday: Will ask students to think of a poem/song lyric that means something to them and I will take them to the computer lab for them to find and print it off.

• Tuesday: Students will “summarize” the poem in the form of a tweet (with hash tags), text message, and Facebook post. Students will also be asked to tweet, text, and make a Facebook post of why their chosen text is important to them.

• Wednesday: I will bring in a poem that means something to me and perform the text, tweet, and Facebook post exercise with my students. For the rest of the class students will be put in to groups to choose one of the poems that they would like to “act out” for the class this Friday.

• Thursday: Continue to work in groups for their act Friday. • Friday: Will have students grade each group member to be sure they

participated equally. As each group performs, the class will take on the role of a “critic” and give constructive criticism to each of the groups performance.
