Executive Message

As hard as it may be with all the extracurricular activities, I urge you to

take this time and focus on yourself.

ISM-NJ Membership Total: 688"Building a Powerful Profession: One Member at a Time"

John Hanna, C.P.M., A.P.P., Trustee

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”

As we enter the month of May we start to feel the “Spring Fever.” The weather is beautiful

and the flowers are blooming. The focus turns to outdoor activities. As hard as it may be with all the extracurricular activities, I urge you to take this time and focus on yourself. You can sign up for one of our many professional develop-ment courses. These courses are a great way to get out of the office and learn something new or build on your current skills. This is a great time to take a day off and enjoy the weather while attending one of our webinars. That is the beauty of a webinar; they are a nice quick way to get a “jolt” of information no matter where you are---the office, home, the park or the beach. The other thing that you can do is to prepare for and take the CPSM or the CPSD certification test. ISM-NJ offers many courses to prep you for the exams, and this coming year we will be holding on-line training as well as our public sessions. We also have our annual ISM-NJ Supplier Diversity Night at the Bridgewater Marriott, where we will have two panel sessions hosted by our Supplier Diversity Committee. The ISM International Conference will also take place on May 5-7, 2014, at the Las Vegas Hotel. This is a great opportu-nity to get out and get a sense of what the rest of the world is doing in Supply Chain Management. I invite you all to participate in these events. They are not

only great learning opportunities but are also excellent networking events. May is also the month in which ISM-NJ will hold its annual elections for the upcoming year’s Board. The nominations have been made and posted. This is a chance to have your voice heard. The Board would love to

see you come out and vote. The instal-lation of the new Board will be held on June 18th (please note this is one week later than usual). With June also comes our Biggest Award Banquet, The Crystal Awards. This is the highest honor that ISM-NJ offers, which we award to the Supply Chain Executive of the Year. I encourage you to start making arrangements to join us in June for this special event. June also signifies the end of our program year. That only means the start of the next year. One of the first events that we have planned for the upcoming year is the Women & Leadership Conference on Oct 16-17, 2014, at The Westin Newport, Jersey City. Details for this event will be on our website in June. Finally as usual I challenge you to take the time and “smell the roses.” Play hooky, take a day off and enjoy it with family and friends. Make May a memorable one by creating those unforgettable moments. The time that you invest in yourself and your family will always have a positive return. You can also follow ISM-NJ on the various social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

If you’re a technology and sourcing executive in banking, financial services or insurance, do you know where your biggest risk lies?

For many, it’s mastering the technologi-cal evolution. Big Data, Cloud Computing, Mobility, Security & Compliance, and Outsourcing are creating challenges across Wall Street. Ask yourself:• Are your global sourcing models

daunting and complex?

• Is outcome-based pricing deliver-ing on its promise?

• Is your organization ready to em-brace the “enterprise of the future” encompassing cloud, mobility and big data?

• Do your cyber security measures and regulatory compliance proto-cols meet client – and governmen-tal – standards?

This one-day power briefing to be held on May 15, 2014, at Wall Street

Tech in New York City, will examine the critical intersection where banking, financial services and insurance meet Wall Street. Last year’s Sold-Out event left attendees ready to take on compel-ling 21st Century issues. The event is free to Buyers/Prac-titioners.
