Points to keep in mind when choosing a camping tent

Number of peopleTents are very different in size and

form. It is almost impossible to buy an all-purpose tent. When choosing a tent you should know: how many people will fit

in it and what kind of mattress you will use.

Place for bags and shoesThink about the place for bags and shoes. Either you should buy a tent which has an entrance-hall or a tent destined for more people as you really are.

Number of bedroomsIf you travel with your friends or children, you should think about the number of bedrooms, so as you can rest and do not

disturb each other.

Entrance-hallThe entrance-hall is a part of tent separate from the sleeping place and from the outside of the tent. You can place here your soggy belongings, bags, dishes, footwear and even a table, if there is enough space for that purpose. Thus the tent performs 2 functions – you can use it both for sleeping and as a shed. The more extensive is the entrance-hall

the more comfortable will be sleeping, because you can leave your bags and other belongings on the vestibule.

Height of the tentUsually the tents destined for few people are lower than tents destined for more people. If you are tall, we recommend you to buy a tent destined for more people (for more than 4 people).

Water resistancePay attention to the water-resistance of the tent measured in water column. Usually the measurement is carried out as follows: the tent material is streched under a measurement cylinder, and cylinder is filled with water and

hold here at least for 24 hours. In case the water resistance is below 1000 mm, you should take

into consideration the fact that the tent has very low rate of water resistance and you may have truble

when weather is bed. You can prove the water resistance very easy – if you can get a blow through the material very easy, the material is low – grade and pervious to water.

VentilationDo not forget to pay attention to the ventilation of the tent. Especially when the weather is hot and there are more people

in the tent as forseen.

The next thing you should take into account when

choosing a tent is the quantity of layers.

Single wall tents tend to be lighter weight than a double wall

tents. If you decide to buy a single wall tent, we reccomend you to buy a tent with windows. Otherwise the condensate of your exhalation will pile up on the walls of the tent.Double wall tent consists from an inside tent and an outside tent. The inside tent is made of a light and air-premeable material. By quality tents this parti s made of synthetic material. In case the inside part of the tent is made of cotton (usually by the low-cost tents), you should take into account the fact that the material will be less duarble, it could grow mouldy and have foul smell if the tent is not dried appropriately

before inflection. Usually the upper part of the tent is made of Macintosh nylon. It will protect you against bad weather conditions. The air piled up between the inside tent and outside tent serves as a thermos – it helps to keep the warmth of the inside tent. The air condensate pile up on the covering of the outside tent in the double wall tents. Therefore the distance between the inside tent and the outside tent

by the quality double wall tents is about 7-10 cm – preventing the tangency

of both layers and piling up of condensate in the inside tent.

When pitching a double wall tent you should strech it accurately, in order to protect it against bending inward and loosing its double wall

effect.

WeightYou should take into account the weight of the tent

when buying it. When you are travelling by car the

tent could have more weight. If you hike – the heavy weight tent will be a bother for you. A fact: if the tent is very light – it is a low quality tent.

MaintenanceAlways count up the pegs when you strike and pack up the tent. Dry the tent before you fold it up. If you are not sure that the tent is dry enough, dry it after travelling to prevent rancidity and quality loss of the material. If there is a need to wash the tent, wash only the outside of the tent using lukewarm soapsuds

and rug or soft brush. Do not rub the material, you can damage it! Avoid soaking the outside layer for a long time, you can damage the inside of the outside layer.

You may wash the inside of the double wall tent in the washing machine on gentle cycle, but we recommend hand wash, because you can damage the floor of the tent

otherwise. Keep the tent in a dry place where the temperature is above zero.

Pitching speedYou should take into consideration a pitching speed when choosing a tent.

Camping tentThink about the number of doors, if you will use the tent for trips – the tent shoul be easy to go through, it should provide enough space for standing, sleeping and putting a table in it.
