Location – Apatity and Murmansk (Kola Peninsula)Basic observatories: Lovozero (LOZ, Kola Peninsula) and Barentsburg (BAB, Spitsbergen Archipelago).Regular observations: auroras, cosmic rays, magnetic pulsations (0.1 – 20 Hz).

PGI optical measurements on Svalbard

a. TV all-sky camera at BAB allows the monitoring of auroral activity at high temporal resolution. TV observations support (or are supported, in dependence on the situation):

– PGI spectral measurements (green, red and proton auroras);

– ESR (LYR) and EISCAT (TRO) measurements;

– CUTLASS measurements;– SPEAR (LYR) heating campaigns;– US array NAL-BAB-HOR of

induction magnetometers (in the near future).

b. Example of coordinated TV-ESR-CUTLASS measurements of dayside aurora response to positive IMF Bz impulse.

Example of the reconstruction of two-dimensional ionosphere electron density by the method of satellite tomography in the area extended for about 1700 km from the subauroral ionosphere (Karelia) to the polar cap zone (Svalbard).
