CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTIONS - for ‘Pull Up’ and ‘Push Up’ POLE MARQUEES  Pole marquees are available in a variety of spans, from approx 3.5m to 18m wide. They are built in modular sections calledbays which are available in either approx 3m, 4.6m or 6.1m lengths, these extend the tent to the required length. The Fabric covers are usually Fire retardent canvas, Polycotton blends or PVC coated Polyester:

Fire retardent to BS 5867, European and American standards.UV stable, Bacteriacide and Fungicide treated.

The roof covers have a lace and eye joins to link them together. These have a weather flap to the top edge. The covers aresupported on ridge poles on Traditional Pole Marquees which are in turn supported on king poles. For Tension or Petal PoleMarquees there is no ridge pole. They are then tensioned to the eave poles by guy ropes. Walling panels are laced togetherand supported by hooking rope loops onto hooks on the roof covers; these are then pegged down with wooden pegs.

Plan A, below, shows a Layout Example for a 15m x 12m Pole Marquee.

Identify the area on which the tent is to be erected (must be a soft surface to allow the steel pegs to be driven) and mark theoutline on the ground with a string line. It is best to pull the tent up into the wind.

Lay out the pegs, poles and ropes on the ground in such a way that reduces the amount of double handling, i.e. as close aspossible to the final position. When deploying ‘push up’ construction technique it can be useful to push the spikes of the kingpoles into the ridge poles poles first and square off as these give an easy indication of where subsequent items should be.

Measure out and drive the steel pegs into the ground in the positions indicated on the plan, approx 1.5m (5’) outside the line ofthe tent. Put 3 pins at the base of each king pole as a crutch .

Put the side lines and tackles onto the stakes . as shown in plan A. Make sure the ropes are all pulled out so that this does nothave to be done when time is more critical.

Step 1 – Lifting King PolesCreate a crutch for the bottom of each pole using a stake and coupleof pegs to stop it slipping Bolt on the lifting tackles to the cross at the top of the pole and pullover the cowls, ensuring the spike on the pole is through the eyelet inthe cowl. Push the guy ropes and soft ridge onto the spike. ** Tie off the guys to the Back stakes to ensure the poles don’tpull right over. Lift up the king poles, then push / pull them to a vertical using the 2front guys, tie off using a round turn and two half hitches. Lift the King poles into the bale rings of the ridge.

Pull the tent roofs between the poles, and, using the shackles providedlock onto the lifting tackle. Tie the tops of the roofs together preparatoryto lacing up. Use the tackles to lift the ridge pole to about 1.5m high. Lace the roofstogether. Ensure the falls of the tackles go through the same hole in thecanvas as the King poles, tie off underneath the roof.

Step 2– Lacing Roofs

Pull out the roofs with the wall poles and tackles on the lace points andcorners. Pull each pole vertical. Pull the Lifting tackles from under the canvas until the ridge poles meetthe cowls, by which time the ropes will be becoming taut. Square up thetent and king poles, put in the rest of the wall poles on the sidelines. Goback to the original tackle ropes and wall poles and straighten / tautenthem up.

Step 3 – Install Wall Poles & Sidelines

Step 4 – Install Wall Poles & SidelinesSelect where your main entrance is going to be and hook the loops / eyes on the top edge of the wall onto the hooks on the roof..It is easier if one person goes around and hooks up every 10 or so and someone else follow them to fill in. Lace the panelstogether and peg down with wooden pegs twisted into the rope loops.

Inspect the tent and effect any necessary steps to make it secure.

Make a crutch at the base of each King Pole with 3 stakes. Put ridge poles (if used) onto King Pole spikes.Lift the pole and ridge up and prop them onto a suitable support (eg Trestle).

Pull the canvas section over the ridge pole, pulling the large eyelets and ‘D’ Rings onto the king pole spikes in turn, lace together, tying off at the bottom with a slip knot. ** Tie off the single guys to the end stakes, and tie off the double guys to the Back stakes (ie. In the direction towardwhich the poles are pointing)

Lift the top of the king poles up about 2-3m and prop onto a blunt ended pole where the king pole meets the ridge. An invertedwall pole is suitable here. Select a suitable wall pole, tie the double guys onto the Becket eye of a block and tackle and put the pole spike into the Becketeye. You can then use this as a lever. Pull the tent up with a block and tackle until the poles are vertical.

Pull the tent out with the wall poles and tackles on the lace points and corners. Square up the tent roof fabrics and poles and putin the rest of the wall poles on the sidelines. Recommend working at opposite ends to avoid pulling the tent over at this stage.

Select where your main entrance is going to be and hook the loops / eyes on the top edge of the wall onto the hooks on the roof.It is easier if one person goes around and hooks up every 10 or so and someone else follows them to fill in. Lace the panelstogether and peg down with wooden pegs twisted into the rope loops.

Inspect the tent and effect any necessary steps to make it secure.

Pole Marquee Lining Installation

Take the lining ridges and link them together using the connectors supplied along the centre line of the tent. Tie the trailing rope of the lining tackle onto the ridge at approximately 3m centres.

Raise the lining ridge to about 1m from the ground and tie the other end to the eave.

Tie the ridge line of the lining roof sections onto the ridge to the whole length of the tent, velcroing them together and ensuringthe gable end triangles are in position. Pull the lining ridge up to eave height (approx. 2.4m) and tie off. Tie the lining joins onto the wall poles at the top of the uprights with a bow.

Pull the lining ridge up until the lining is taut. Hang the wall linings onto the hooks on the roof of the tent (as with the side walls).
