Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO. "/^—In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance 39 Vic. No. 15, the following rule will be observed by the Police throughout the Colony:— When a Warrant for the apprehension of any person has been issued by a Magistrate at any Station, the Police Ofhcer or Constable in charge of such Station wiU forward to each Police Station in the Colony, and to the Detective Office in Perth, a copy of such Warrant, countersigned by himself, attaching to the Copy Warrant the Form No. 198, giving an accurate description of the person required to be apprehended.

Arrests in all cases can be effected by the Police on such Copy Warrants.

Officers in charge of Divisions will see that the Police in their Divisions make themselves acquainted with the provisions of the above Ordinance.

HoUis," twist barrel, brass mountings, small hole made with penknife in each of them, ramrod mahogany, blackened over with ink; gold scarf pin, head t-n^sted shape of knot; child's necklace, red beads; necklace imita­tion of pearl, with heart, same material; necklace imitation gold; black necklace, with cross, imitation je t ; silver brooch shape of star; oval-shaped brooch, glass in front, with flower painted inside; round-shaped brooch, composition, with flower in front; black billy-cock ha t ; some powder, shot, and two smaU boxes of caps.—C I. 67.

On 25th inst., from James Mitchell and Dennis Bennett, at the New York Hotel, York,—silver | plate Geneva lever watch, with compensating balance wheel. No. 25399 under the dial, common chain attached, serpentine pattern; locket and bone ring, one glass in locket broken, the property of James MitcheU; new black cloth dress coat, the property of Dennis Bennett. On 22nd inst., from the hut of David Lovell, York District,—20 lbs. flour, 2 lbs. sugar, 10 lbs. salt pork, J lb. tea, pannican, no handle, and dent in side, razor and pair of scissors, one of the points broken.— C L 69.

On 22nd inst., from the shop of Alexander Bergin, Shoemaker, Fremantle,—pair half Wellington boots, English tops, the name of WiUiam Warren written on sole of one boot. Charles Morris alias Toney, suspected.—CI. 70.

On 27th inst., from premises of Dr. Barnett, Fremantle, the property of t.l. 10036, Charles Parley,—old coat, dark colored tweed, Crimean shirt, pair duck trowsers nearly new.—C I. 71.

Sometime since October last, from the dwelling-house of Joseph Spencer, Strawberry HUl, Albany District, the property of WiUiam A. Spencer,— bamboo wallcing stick, handle mounted with silver, fitting about an inch down all round; on top of silver is engraved the Dutch Arms of the Island of Poo loo ay, and " De Eesidentile Van Poo loo ay" in a circle, letters reversed.—CI. 73.

On night of 19th or morning of 20th ult., from verandah of house in York St., Albany, the property of Henry Warne,—pea jacket, blue rough cloth, nearly new; black cloth trowsers, new; black cloth waistcoat, only 3 buttons; black cloth waistcoat, with small white spots, 2 buttons off; the black cloth clothes stamped Pears & Trew, Bourke St., Mel­bourne, in circle.—CI. 74.

On or about 26th ult., from the house of John Mead,—new black pilot cloth coat, double breasted, side pockets, and black lining; pair dark blue cloth trowsers, police cloth; two pair white drUl trowsers; dark blue cloth vest, police cloth; blue tweed vest, police tweed; two white shirts; black billy cock ha t ; white puggree, purple stripes at end; german silver verge watch, open flat face. Charles Price, exp., living at Leeder's farm, suspected.—C.L 75.

On 20th ult., from the hut of John Jackson, at Dolbecutting, Youndegin District,—Crimean shirt, plaid pattern; comb and damper.—CI. 76.

On 22nd ult., from the person of John Bone, who had been drinking at Victoria Hotel, Geraldton, during the day,—about £60 in five and one-pound notes. Bone knows nothing as to whom he was in company with, or when he lost it, and cannot give any description of the notes.—CI. 78.

On 24th ult., from a coat in Osborne's Boarding-house, Geraldton, the property of Mullet, a Malay,— about d£l 7s. in silver; also, several agreements and papers written in Dutch, one of the agreements being witnessed by L.C. Mainland, of Shark's Bay; papers identifiable. Thomas Leonard, exp., late Eeg. No. 8051, suspected.—C I. 79.

Since January last, from a desk in the house of L. Eliot, Wellington-street, Perth,—wedding ring, much worn.—C I. 80.

Inquest. On 18th inst., at Albany, by the Eesident Magis­

trate, on the body of Eichard Norrish, a boy aged 12 years, who was ran over by a waggon at Choker-up, on the 16th inst. Verdict " Accidental Death."

Apprehensions. AMOS WOOD, free, on warrant at Albany, by P.C.

Learey, on 5th inst.; charged with deserting from the service of P . & 0. Company. Sentenced on 6th, at Albany PoUce Court, to 14 days hard labour. ^

WILLIAM BEAMWELL alias WILLIAM EOSE, c.p., Eeo- No 6715, on warrant issued 27th August, 1873 by P C T. Hogan, at Tulbrunup, on 3rd mst., charged with deserting the sei-vice of John Hassell Albany, in August, 1873, sentenced to 14 days hard labour. This man when searched had on him the parchment c.p., of 6715, William Eose; from enquiry this was ascertained to be his right name.

FEANCIS MACKIE, c.r., 8367, was cautioned and discharged on 4th inst., by Albany Bench, on charg of deserting service of Alexander Moir, on 28tL'<'i March last; no warrant issued.

JOHN GEAT, t.l., Eeg. No. 9756, by P.C A. Morrison, on 27th inst., at Fremantle, charged with steaUng a cockatoo, the property of Frederick W. Scott, Fremantle; sentenced on 29th inst., by Fre­mantle Bench, to 3 months' hard labour.

Absconded from Convict Boat Par ty , Fremant le , on the 16th December, 1870, and is believed he went overland to South Australia with Bernard Stein in October, 1874.

Colonial Convict; under sentence of 5 years p.s., a t Albany, on the 19th February , 1873, his Imperia l Eeg. No. was 7747, sentence 6 years p.s., on the 7th May, 1861. Description—Stout, present age 39, 5ft. 4in. high, brown hair, oval visage, dark complexion,

9. HENEY PAEKENSON, Eeg. No. 8674, Imperial Convict; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Vimiera, December, 1865, reconvicted for larcenies in this Colony. Description—Middling stout, present age 36, 5ft. 6|in. high, brown hair, grey eyes, oval visage, fresh complexion. Marks—Dot and H on left arm; a laborer. Absconded from North Fre­mantle Depot on the 8th March, 1874, believed to be in or near Perth.

10. AuGtrsTOE EOGEES, Eeg. No. 9860, Imperial Convict; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont, January, 1868, was sentenced to 10 years p.s., 17th September, 1866. Description— Stout, present age 42, 5ft. 2in. high, Ught eyes, Ught hair, oval visage, light complexion. Marks—Soldier, woman, and anchor on arm; a tailor. Absconded from Albany, whilst at large on a Conditional Eelease, on the 8th January, 1865, supposed to have escaped in American Whaler, Young Phojnix.

11. WILLIAM LEIGH alias FEANK KELLY alias WILLIAM L E E , Eeg. No. 9964, Colonial Convict; (Imp. Eeg. No. 6033); arrived in the Colony per con­vict ship Lincelles, January, 1862 ; reconvicted at the Supreme Court, Perth, 7th October, 1869, sentenced to 7 years p.s. Description—Stout, present age 39, 5ft. 3iin. high, fresh complexion. Marks —Heart on palm of left hand, cut on left hand, black spots on left arm; a glover and tailor. Absconded from Freshwater Bay Convict Eoad Party on the 13th March, 1875, believed to have been on the Swan two months ago.

13. MANDES TOMMY, ab. native, escaped from Vasse Lock-up, 5th inst., whilst undergoing sentence of 14 days. For description vide Police Gazette, page 23.

14. THOMAS DAEEAGH, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9707; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont, 10th January, 1868, sentenced for life, 2nd March, 1866. Description—Stout, age 42 years, height 5 ft. 6\ in., red hair, grey eyes, round visage, fresh complexion. Marks—Mole on right cheek; mole on breast; is much freckled; square shoulders, and walks erect. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8-30 am., 17th AprU, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

15. MARTIN HOGAN, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9767; arrived in Colony per convict ship Hougou­mont ; received a life sentence 21st August, 1866. Description—Stout, ago 37 years, height 5 ft. 6 in., dark brown hair, dark hazel eyes, long visage, dark complexion. Marks—D left side; cut left cheek; cut left eyebrow; walks firmly; has the gait and appear­ance of a cavalry soldier; is a coachpainter. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8.30 a.m., 17th April, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

16. MICHAEL HAEEINGTON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9757; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont; received life sentence 7th July, 1866. Description—Middling stout, age 48 years, 5ft. 7|in. high, brown hair, grey eyes, full visage, sallow com­plexion. Marks—D left side; pockmarked. Fenian. Absconded at 8.30 a.m. from Fremantle, on I7th AprU, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

17 THOMAS HASSETT, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9758- arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont; received life sentence 15th August, 1866 Description-Middling stout, age 36 years, height 5 ft. 8 in., brown hair, light grey eyes, lonj visage, fresh complexion. M a r k s - D left side; c^ mark left side upper l ip; a rough carpenter Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8-30 a.m., 17th April 1876. Escaped from the Colony m the American whaler " Catalpa," G. 18 EoBBBT CEANSTON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9702; arrived in Colony per convict ship Houo-oumont, 1868; received life sentence 26th June, 1866. Description—Middling stout, age 86 years, height 5 ft. 6f in., brown hair, grey eyes, oval visage, fresh complexion. Marks—Cross mside right arm; a farmer. Fenian. Absconded at 8.30 a.m. from Fremantle, on 17th AprU. Escaped from the ^ Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

19. JAMES WILSON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9915 , arrived in Colony per convict ship Hougou-mont; received life sentence 20th August, 1866. Description—MiddUng stout, age 40 years, height 5 ft. 8 j in., brovra hair, grey eyes, oval visage, fresh complexion. Marks—D left side; is a labourer. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle, on 17th April, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

Horses and Cattle. Lost or stolen from H. Yelverton's run, property

of W. L. Campbell, Quindalup, since 29th March,— an iron grey horse, about 4 years old, 14 hands, two white feet, white spot about size of a shilling on point of near shoulder; not branded.—C I. 72.

Deserters from Merchant Vessels. From the barque Waterwitch, Albany, King

George's Sound, on 27th March.—Samuel Davis, free, John Gully, free, and James Manning, free, seamen. Warrants issued at Albany, on 27th March, charging above-mentioned men with deserting. Arrested at Albany by Sergeant Furlong, on 27th March. On 28th, cautioned and sent on board ship.

From the barque Waterwitch, on 27th March.— Joseph Eay, free, James Moodey, free, and David Lonergan, free, seamen. Warrants issued at Albany, on 28th, charging above-mentioned men with desert­ing on the night of 27th. Moodey and Lonergan arrested by P.Cs. Hayman and BoveU, on 28th, and were cautioned by E. M., and sent on board. Joseph Eay, was arrested by P.C. Barron, on the 29th March, at Toovey's round swamp; sentenced on 3rd inst., at Albany, to 4 weeks' hard labor.

Warrant issued and arrest made, on 1st inst.; charging Benjamin Norton, free, for refusing duty on board ship Norseman, at Albany; sentenced on , drd mst., to 24 hours' imprisonment.

Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO, '^j^;—In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance 39 Vic. No. 15, the following rule will be observed by the Police throughout the Colony:— When a Warrant for the apprehension of any person has been issued by a Magistrate at any Station, the PoUce Officer or Constable in charge of such Station will forward to each Police Station in the Colony, and to the Detective Office in Perth, a copy of such Warrant, countersigned by himself, attaching to the Copy Warrant the Form No. 198, giving an accurate description of the person required to be apprehended.

Arrests in all cases can be effected by the Police on such Copy Warrants.

Officers in charge of Divisions will see that the Police in their Divisions make themselves acquainted with the provisions of the above Ordinance.

"/iji.—For the future, notifications of the arrest of absconders, stating the name of the Con­stable by whom the arrest was effected, need only be forwarded direct to the Detective Office, instead of as hitherto, to all stations; where possible, intimation must be sent by telegraph as well as by post. Can­cellation of warrants may be notified in same manner. On the receipt of the Police Gazette, the Police throughout the Colony are to be careful to note the announcement of arrests and cancellation of warrants.

On 29th ult., from the person of Whyate, ab. native, at Bunbury,—one shilling. Wm. Farrand, exp., late Eeg. No. 7106, summoned to apjiear on the charge, was sentenced by Bunbury Bench, on 1st inst., to 6 weeks' hard labor.—C.L 81.

On 28th ult., from the hut of James Boddington, WiUiams Eiver,—about 40 lbs. mutton, sack, and 1 lb. large size rope. George Clamp, free, suspected. —C L 82.

Sometime during April, from Walker's Yard, Murray Street, Perth, the property of Mrs. Hardey, —two black Spanish fowls (male), indentifiable.— C.L 83.

On 25th ult., from the hut of Joseph Powell, Wandering, Beverley District,—a quantity of flour, tea, and sugar, in bags, bottle mustard, two yards sheeting, felt hat, old overcoat, smaU pouch, sack branded J. K.—C I. 84.

On 17th ult., from the house of James CUnch, Kiaka, Victoria Plains,—a double-barreUed gun with sandalwood stock.—C I. 85.

On or about 15th ult., stolen or lost,—kangaroo dog, the property of Mr. E. Howard, Perth. Des­cription—bitch, red, scar on shoulder; answers to name of " Fly."—C I. 86.

On 1st inst., from person of John Gaa, while asleep in his own house, Fremantle,— old-fashioned German silver verge watch, brass Albert chain, snake pattern, two keys attached, one bellows shaped. T. L. 10036, Charles Farley, was drinking with Gaa and went home with him. When Gaa awoke, Farley was gone. Gaa had the watch when he went home. Farley was arrested same night for breach of t.l. regulations, the stolen property was not found on him.—C L 87.

Martin,—monkey jacket nearly new, a hole in the back, two letters in pockets, one addressed M. I;ewar, the other M. On from William Budge, Canning,—a terrier dog, black and tan. John Owen, exp., late Eeg. No. 4713 alias Big Milkey, was seen taking this dog from the Canning.—C I. 91.

On 6th inst., from the verandah of premises occupied by late Sheriff, Perth,—2 white single blankets, and bed rug, the property of Thomas Barker, dealer, &c., Murray Street, Perth. These articles were sold by James Bristow, exp., late Eeg. No. 7028, to the wife of Thomas Barker, before Barker was aware of the larceny.—C.L 92.

Descript ion—Healthy appearance, pre­sent age 30, Sft. 6in. high, black hair, brown eyes, oval visage, dark complexion ; an I r i shman. Absconded from Convict Eoad Par ty , Bunbury , on the 18th February, 1869.

8269, Imperial Convict; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Eacehorse, 1865, under sentence of 20 years, p.s., March, 1863. Description—Stout, broad shoulders, present age 34, Sft. 7f in. high, dark brown hair, bald, light hazel eyes, long visage, fair com­plexion. Marks—Anchor and J r ight a r m ; sailor and mermaid left arm ; a carpenter ; has a spot size of half crown on left side of head void of ha i r ; has been in Eoyal Navy ; an Engl ishman ; walks with a quick short step, turns r ight foot outward. Absconded from Convict Boat Par ty , Fremantle , on the 16th December, 1870, and is believed he went overland to South Australia with Bernard Stein in October, 1874.

5. J A M E S B A K E E , Eeg . No. 9068, Imperial Con­vict ; arrived in the Colony per convict shij) Corona, 1866, under sentence of 15 years p.s., 2Sth March, 1865. Description—Slight, present age 69, Sft. 3.'.in. high, grey hair, grey eyes, round visage, dark com­plexion ; a laborer. Convict; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Norwood, July, 1867; sentenced to 10 years in 1865, bu t received additional sentences in this Colony for larceny. Descrijjtion—Stout, present age 39, Sft. 2in. high, black hair, black eyes, round visage, swarthy complexion ; a laborer. Absconded from Freshwater Bay Eoad Par ty on the 10th May, 1873.

Colonial Convict; under sentence of 5 years p.s., a t Albany, on the 19th February, 1873, his Imperial Eeg. No. was 7747, sentence 6 years p.s., on the 7th May, 1861. Description—Stout, present age 39, Sft. 4in. high, brown hair, oval visage, dark complexion, Marks—Bayonet stab in neck, D left side, bullet mark on right leg, willow left arm, J . right a r m ; a laborer. Absconded from Point Eesolution Eoad party on the 10th Augus t , 1873.

9. H E N E Y P A E K E N S O N , Eeg . No. 8674, Imperia l Convict; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Vimiera, December, 1865, reconvicted for larcenies in this Colony. Description— Stout, present age 42, Sft. 2in. high, light eyes, light hair, oval visage, light complexion. Marks—Soldier, woman, and anchor on arm ; a tailor. Absconded from Albany, whilst at large on a Conditional Eelease, on the 8th January, 1865, supposed to have escaped in American Whaler, Young Phoenix.

11. WILLIAM LEIGH alias FEANK KELLY alias WILLIAM L E E , Eeg. No. 9964, Colonial Convict; •(Imp. Eeg. No. 6033); arrived in the Colony per con­vict ship Lincelles, January, 1862 ; reconvicted at the Supreme Court, Perth, 7th October, 1869, sentenced to 7 years p.s. Description—Stout, present age 39,

' Sft. 3|in. high, fresh complexion. Marks—Heart on palm of left hand, cut on left hand, black spots on left a rm; a glover and tailor. Absconded from Freshwater Bay Convict Eoad Party on the 13th March, 1875, beUeved to have been on the Swan two months ago.

13. MANDES TOMMY, ab. native, escaped from Vasse Lock-up, 5th inst., whilst undergoing sentence of 14 days. For description vide Police Gazette, page 23.

14. THOMAS DAEEAGH, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9707; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont, 10th January, 1868, sentenced for

* life, 2nd March, 1866. Description—Stout, age 42 years, height 5 ft. 6^ in., red hair, grey eyes, round vis.ge, fresh complexion. Marks—Mole on right cheek ; mole on breast; is much freckled; square shoulders, and walks erect. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8-30 am., 17th AprU, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

15. MAETIN HOGAN, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9767; arrived in Colony per convict ship Hougou­mont; received a life sentence 21st August, 1866. Description—Stout, age 37 years, height Sft. 6in., dark brown hair, dark hazel eyes, long visage, dark complexion. Marks—D left side; cut left cheek; cut left eyebrow; walks firmly; has the gait and appear­ance of a cavalry soldier; is a coachpainter. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8.30 a.m., 17th April, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

16. MICHAEL HAEEINGTON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9757; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont; received life sentence 7th July, 1866. Description—Middling stout, age 48 years, Sft. 7|in. high, brown hair, grey eyes, full visage, sallow com­plexion. Marks—D left side; pockmarked. Fenian. Ab.sconded at 8.30 a.m. from Fremantle, on 17th April, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

17. THOMAS HASSETT, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9758; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont; received Ufe sentence 15th August, 1866. Description—MiddUng stout, age 36 years, height Sft. 8in., brown hair, light grey eyes, long visage, fresh complexion. Marks—D left side; cut mark left side upper lip; a rough carpenter. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8-30 a.m., 17th AprU, 1876. Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

18. EOBEET CEANSTON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. No. 9702; arrived in Colony per convict ship Hougoumont, 1868; received" life sentence 26th June, 1866. Description—Middling stout, age 36

years, height 5 ft. 6 | in . , brown hair, grey eyes, ova visag;, fresh complexion. Marks-Cross msidenght arm; a farmer. Fenian. Absconded at «.30 a.m. from Fremantle, on 17th April. Escaped from the Coloiiy in the American whaler " Catalpa, G. Anthony, Master.

19. JAMES WILSON, Imperial Convict, Eeg. % . 9915 , arrived in Colony per convict ship Hougou-mont'; received life sentence 20th August, 1866. Description—MiddUng stout, age 40 years, height Sft. 8 J in., brown hair, grey eyes, oval visage, fresli complexion. Marks—D left side; is a labourer. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle, on 17th April, 1876- Escaped from the Colony in the American whaler " Catalpa," G. Anthony, Master.

20. JOSHUA ELLIS , Imp. Convict, Eeg. No. 9727. Description—Age 38, height Sft. 4|in., light bro-ro hair, round visage, sallow complexion, middling stout. Marks—Cut left knee, broken nail Uttle fin.fcr left hand, pockmarked, lost several upper front teeth. Absconded from the Eifle Eange Party, at 11-20 a.m., on 3rd May, 1876. Vide Apprehensions.

21. EDWAED MAEKS, Eeg. No. 7774, from Perth District, sometime since l l t h September, 1875. Description—Middling stout, 43 years, Sft. 7|in., dark brown hair, light hazel eyes, oval visage, florid complexion. Marks—cross and necklace, sailor, woman, heart and laurel, crucifix, shamrock, rose and thistle, anchor and rope, bracelet, and G.M.E.E. and c. on right arm; schooner, cross flags, palm tree, gun and caiTiage, tree, flag, compass and bracelet, T.M. W.M. S.M. J.M. E.M. and s.c, left arm; is a sailor; is now supposed to be in company with Kearns, absconder 8, in the neighbourhood of Port Augusta.

Miscellaneous. Found in possession of a prisoner at Perth Gaol;

a gold brooch, ornamental border, with flower in centre, on blue ground; flower has pearls and one diamond set in centre ; there were originally 14 pearls, but 2 are out of setting; small oval glass for hair setting, at back, with the inscription round border: "Eliza or Elizabeth Spearing, Died Feb. 14th, 1844, ^ t . 4 2 " ; this inscription has been partly rubbed or scraped out. Owner required. Brooch now at Detective Office.

Found by L. C Troy, in the possession of Eobert Laurie, exp. alias Soldier Bob, when arrested, on warrant; a single barrelled gun, nearly new, has a slight crack in barrel, barrel is also slightly bent; stated that he got the gun from Mrs. Smith, of the Greenough, but it is supposed to have been stolen by Laurie. Greenough Police enquire, and notify this Office.

FEANCIS AETHUE was convicted at York Police Court, on 2nd inst.; charged with cutting sa,^Sl-wood on Crown Lands without license. Fined J.'JS. and costs.

WILLIAM MCQUAIDE charged with same offence, on 9th inst.

Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO. 7<^—In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance 39 Vic. No. 15, the foUowing rule wiU be observed by the PoUce throughout the Colony:— When a Warrant for the apprehension of any person has been issued by a Magistrate at any Station, the Police Officer or Constable in charge of such Station will forward to each Police Station in the Colony, and to the Detective Office in Perth, a copy of such Warrant, countersigned by himself, attaching to the Copy Warrant the Form No. 198, giving an accurate description of the person required to be apprehended.

Arrests in all cases can be effected by the Police on such Copy Warrants.

Officers in charge of Divisions will see that the Police in their Divisions make themselves acquainted with the provisions of the above Ordinance.

Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &c.

On or about 1st ult., from stable of William Bed­ford Mitchell, Bunbury,—single bridle, headstall pattern, electro-plated ring on each side, and light grey tweed coat, the property of William Shaw, Mitchell's servant; also stolen from Mitchell's store­room about same time, 81bs. cake tobacco. George Brown, a boy at that time in Mitchell's employ, but now in the employ of Mark Padbury, Blackwood, suspected.—CI. 93.

On 9th inst., from, the taproom of United Service Tavern, Perth, the property of William Crawford,—-pair of dark tweed trowsers, black soft felt hat, red Uning, blanket, colored red, blue, and white, one billy, and quart pannican; also two smaU calico bags, containing tea and sugar.—CI. 94.

About 3 months ago, from residence of E. Ashton, Hay Street, Perth,—a lady's workbox, ordinary pattern, with one tray, containing gold chain (lady's), very fine curb pattern, and horsehair watch-guard, with three small English three-halfpenny silver coins attached. A girl named Lizzie Dyer, now in Fre­mantle, suspected.—C.L 95.

On 24th March last, at Cossack, N.W. Coast, from a Chinaman named Ah Boon,—about twenty-two pounds in gold and orders; this money was taken from a chest, and supposed to have been taken by one of his mates.—C I. 96.

On 9th inst., from the person of Joseph BusweU, in the taproom of Wellington Hotel,—fifteen shillings in sUver. WUUam Norrie, exp., strongly suspected. —C.L 97.

On or about 10th inst., from premises of Thomas Kyle, barber, Hay Street, Perth,—pair elastic side boots, pair scissors, and Turkey stone. William Howard, 10035, suspected. The Turkey stone has been recovered by L.C. McCaffrey from C Harms-work, c.r. 9753, who states he bought it fi-om WiUiam Howard.—C.L 98.

On or about 10th inst., from the Bar of Horse & Groom, Perth, the property of Henry Armstrong,— two white Government blankets, marked with a broad arrow, white flannel shirt, grey Crimean shirt, and two combs. George Barnes alias George the Barber, was about the bar at the time.—C.L 99.

On the 4th inst., from the person of James Proven, at the Miner's Arms Hotel, Gwalla,—a National Bank Cheque, in favor of Crowther and Mitchell, signed by L. C Burges, Jun., and another cheque for £2 7s., description not given. WiUiam Brooks, exp., late Eeg. No. 9392 alias Faro, suspected, and was seen on the 6th inst., near Geraldton.—CI. 100.

Vide Information received from Vasse, 6tli inst. The clothing stolen from J. Eichardson, w&s found,

on the 8th inst.

Miscellaneous. The poUce tracked a small chestnut pony gelding

from the house of David Plant, where a robbery was committed on the 25th ult., to a place near the Helena; the man who committed the robbery evidently rode away on the horse; the pony is branded something like J M on near shoulder, and is now in the possession of Guildford Police. Eobbery beUeved to have been committed by absconder Leigh, and the pony to have been stolen.

The Police are requested to keep watch on the movements of John Jackson alias Tasker, late Eeg. No. 6456; he has tried to get a set of skeleton keys.

On the 6th inst., P.C. McKenna found in a box owned by Charles Farley, Eeg. No. 10036,—four pocket handkerchiefs and table napkin, the property of Dr. Barnett, of Fremantle. Farley is undergoing sentence of one month for neglect of work, and will be prosecuted for above when his sentence is ex­pired.

&. On 27th ult., Daniel Cradock, exp., late Eeg. No.

3561, and Charles Overton late Eeg. No. 295, were charged by P.C. Barron with harbouring Joseph Eay, free, seaman, deserter from barque Water Witch. Fined =£1 and costs each.

A penny piece, washed with some material to represent a florin, was found in possession of Edward Gorman, free, on 6th inst., at Fremantle. Gorman is at present undergoing sentence of 6 weeks' hard labor, at Perth Local Gaol. A great many colored copper coins have been passed for sUver lately. John Francis, exp., a Hindoo, is suspected of color­ing and uttering these coins.

Found in possession of two ab. nat. women named Polly and Wickedeye,—7 butcher's knives, 1 razor, 1 chisel, 2 looking glasses, 2 cotton handkerchiefs, and piece of white and blue window blind—these articles are supposed to have been stolen, and are now at Bridgetown Police Station.

A man answering to the description of 9964, William Leigh, absconder, was seen passing Narro­gin from the Albany Eoad on the Bunbury Eoad, on Friday, the 12th inst.; also on the Southern line on Saturday, 13th inst., dressed in long blue serge shirt, outside trowsers, dirty moleskin trowsers, and white billy-cock hat.

Conditional Eelease Holder 8286, Arthur Hewitt, reported that he left Champion Bay District for Perth, to reside, on the 13th inst.

Eeg. No. 6707, Joseph Parkenson, while in custody at 131-mUe, Albany Eoad, being committed for tnal on two charges (vide Police Gazette, page *Zj, attempted to commit suicide by cutting bis throat, about 10 minutes to 4 on morning of 3rd mst.

Conditional Eelease Holder, 10028, James Carr, reports residing in Gingin for medical treatment. ^

On evening of 10th inst., a fire was discovered m the back premises of Dr. Waylen, Perth, and from enquiry it was ascertained the fire .was first seen m the groom's room; no one had been seen entering the room after a quarter to six, and the fire was first observed about half-past eight; the door was locked, and it is supposed that the fire was caused by some person putting an arm through the window, to com­mit a larceny, and either dropped a lighted match on the groom's bed clothes, or else knocked down a box of matches which was over the window. All the groom's clothing, &c., was destroyed.

Conditional Eelease Holder, 9887, David Taylor, reports in Perth from WiUiams Eiver District, to to reside in Perth.

The cutter Sarah Williams arrived in Geraldton, on 7th inst., and the master, WiUiam Howard, reported that about 4 weeks previous a boat about 5 tons burden, the Star, left Sharks Bay for Champion Bay, for provisions, with which she was to return to Sharks Bay. Nothing has since been heard of her. On board the Star were Mr. John HiU, Charles Brennon, Eichard Poland, and one Malay. It is supposed she has been lost. If anything heard of them, report to be sent.

The owner of the gold scarfpin, therein described, has been found to be S. H. Parker.

On 5th inst., in a grant adjoining Eoe Street, Perth,—black cloth sac coat, in very good condition, and black cloth trousers, much worn.

On 7th inst., between Avondale and Dale Barracks, Beverley,—a sack containing about three lbs. new small rope; now at Beverley Police Station.

Property Lost. On 13th inst., by a Malay in Packenham Street,

Fremantle,—a purse containing four pearls, l is. in money, and an agreement of his with M. Moor. No further description given; but will be sent.

On going back on 30th ult. to look for his lost pro­perty he met prisoner, who, when he saw him, threw away an envelope, which was the one addressed to P . C H o g a n ; he denied picking up coat and vest, bu t on being pressed admitted to the fact, and went to the spot and found them, but pockets were emptied ; prisoner then gave up one half sovereign. On being searched a half sovereign and 2s. 9d. in silver was found on prisoner.

J O H N H A E T , t.l., Eeg. No. 5693, by P.C. Giles, about 8 miles the Newcastle side of Baylup. H a r t had been drinking a t Baylup, and being quarrelsome commenced a fight, and in the fight bit off the other man 's (named Thompson) ear. H a r t is remanded to Guildford Police Court. Hart bit a man's ear off at Lockville, in 1874, but was not prosecuted for it.

on body of Sarah Clarke, who died suddenly at the Harvey, on the 2nd inst. Deceased was about 67 years of age, and resided at the Harvey. Verdict— " Died from disease of the heart."

Between early part of April and 4th inst., from the hut of William Tyrrell, at the Crooked Brook, near Bunbury, while TyrreU was in Perth,—a whita double blanket, bound at the ends with blue thread; cotton counterpane, black and white pattern; pair white moleskin trowsers ; two razors, one white and other black handles ; a pocket-book, Wm. An enquiry has been held relative to dead body of a man found about 9 miles from C Pontts' residence, and about 8 miles from Tandanooka, on the 28th January last; the body was much burnt by a bush fire, and a gun which was laying at his side was also partly burnt. The body was identified by Henry Balby as that of late William Brown, exp. Des­cription—middling stout, about 50 years at time of death, about 5 ft. 10 in., dark brown hair, blind of one eye, swarthy complexion. Report to be sent if the late Beg. No. of the deceased William Brown is known to any member of the Police.

On 19th inst., by Eesident Magistrate, Fremantle, at Lunatic Asylum, on the body of Margaret Kane, an inmate of the Asylum. Verdict—" Died from natural causes."

Found on 14th April, on the beach between the Warren and Donnelly Eiver,—a piece of sandalwood, about 5 feet loug, and 6 in. diameter, branded on both ends MK conjoined, in lettei's about an inch long; the wood appeared to have been recently washed ashore, and also to have lately been cut, as it was fresh looking. This information was given by Mr. A. E. Burt, as likely to prove useful with regard to the loss of the Mary Herbeii.

Deserting Wives, Families, Service, &e. GEOEGE BAEBEE, ab. native, alias LOVEGEOYE.

Description—slight, about 30 years, about Sft. 9in., visage, long and hollow; is charged, on warrant issued at Bunbury, l l t h inst., with deserting the service of Thomas H. Lovegrove, Bunbury, about the end of March last. This native is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Minninup.

Property Found. In a grant occupied by H. D. Grey, Fremantle,—3

cotton shirts, pair dungaree trowsers, towel, pair of socks, and female's cloth jacket; these articles are well worn. Now at Fremantle Police Station.

On 16th mst., in Howick Street, Perth,—P.O. Savings' Bank Book; name, Benjamin Martin, Wandering; handed over to Postmaster General.

Letter, stamped, has Fremantle post mark, dkted May 4, 1876. Addressed—Mr. Jonathan Jones. Now at Detective Ofiice.

Property Lost. On 20th inst., by Thomas SalkiUd, Perth,—a

National Bank Cheque for £2 19s., dated 12th May, 1876, signed by G. Budd, Chairman, and John Urqu­hart, Secretary, Perth Co-operative Society, in favor of T. MacKenzie.

On 17th inst., from a trap, somewhere in the streets of Fremantle,—Inverness cape, color black, material pUot cloth, rather long nap.

Description—Stout, age 37 years, height 5 tt. 6in dark brown hair, dark hazel eyes, long visage dark complexion. Marks—D left side; cut left cheek; cut left eyebrow; walks firmly; has the gait and appear­ance of a cavalry soldier; is a coachpainter. Fenian. Absconded from Fremantle 8.30 a.m., 17th AprU, 1876. Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO. "/loa,—In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance 39 Vic. No. 15, the following rule will be observed by the Police throughout the Colony:— When a Warrant for the apprehension of any person has been issued by a Magistrate at any Station, the PoUce Ofiicer or Constable in charge of such Station will forward to each Police Station in the Colony, and to the Detective Office in Perth, a copy of such Warrant, countersigned by himself, attaching to the Copy Warrant the Form No. 198, giving an accurate description of the person required to be apprehended.

Arrests in all cases can be effected by the PoUce on such Copy Warrants.

Ofiicers in charge of Divisions will see that the Police in their Divisions make themselves acquainted with the provisions of the above Ordinance.

J A M E S L E B L A N C , exp., late Eeg. No. 6366,—mid­dling stout, age 41 years, Sft. 4in., dark hazel eyes, round visage ; is a man of color; is charged, on warrant issued a t York, on 22nd inst., with unlawfully break­ing and entering the dwelling-house of John Turvey, and with a t tempt ing to strike Mrs. Turvey with a stone jar , at about 2 a.m., on the 21st inst.

Horses and Cattle. On l l t h inst., from Jandelah near Gingin, a small

bay gelding ])ony, Timor breed, branded ^^^ on near shoulder, and something like -E on neck, shod all round, small sore on near side, under saddle. This pony is the property of George W . Logue, Mail Contractor, who has been informed, tha t ou the l l t h inst., Leigh, Absconder 11, was at Jandelah, and a man answering to Leigh's description was seen on same day riding from Jandelah on small pony and leading a horse. Leigh strongly suspected.—C I. 116.

Property Found. On 20th inst., on Pe r th and Fremant le Eoad,—a

ladies' black cashmere boot ; now at Fremant le Police Station.

Prisoners tr ied a t Supreme Court, Criminal Sessions, Per th , commencing 17th May, 1876:—• Kenneth Brown, free, charged with wilful murder , a t Geraldton, was found guUty and sentenced to death on 29th inst.

About five or six weeks ago, a horse belonging to Phil ip Payne, of Nanga, Nor thampton District, was found dead, near Maxwell's Spr ings ; the horse was evidently shot in the head with a bullet. No clue to the perpetrator.

I t has been reported to this ofiice tha t Wil l iam Doogood alias Stut ter ing Billy, exp., late Eeg. No. 8832, is working in the Cham])ion Bay District, and passing himself as a pensioner's son.

A search warrant was executed on premises of Samuel and Thomas Croker, Old Establ ishment Yard, Fremantle, by police, the 29th inst., on inform­ation of Edward Tonkins ; who stated tha t he saw two fowls in the possession of the Crokers, and identified them as two fowls which had been stolen from him, a month previous. Stolen fowls not recovered.

Eeg. No. 8328 Francis King, c.r., has reported changing residence from the Murray to Pe r th District.

Marks—H.K. on each arm ; a farm laborer. Absconded from a Convict Par ty at Point Eesolution on the 10th October, 1868.

2. J O H N O ' E E I L L Y , Eeg. No. 9843, Imperial Con­vict ; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Hougoumont , in 1868; sentenced to 20 years, 9 th July, 1866. Descript ion—Healthy appearance, pre­sent age 30, Sft. 6in. high, black hair, brown eyes, oval visage, dark coiuplexion ; an I r i shman. Absconded from Convict Eoad Par tv , Bunbury , on the 18th February. 1869.

Marks—Anchor and J right a r m ; sailor and mermaid left a rm ; a carpenter ; has a spot size of half crown on left side of head void of ha i r ; has been in Eoyal Navy ; an Engl i shman ; walks with a quick short step, tu rns r ight foot outward. Absconded from Convict Boat Par ty , Fremant le , on the 16th December, 1870, and is believed he went overland to South AustraUa with Bernard Stein in October, 1874.

5. J A M E S B A K E E , Eeg . No. 9068, Imper ia l Con­vict ; arrived in the Colony per convict ship Corona, 1866, under sentence of IS years p.s., 25tb March, 1865. Description—SUght, present age 69, Sft. 3 i in . high, grey hair, grey eyes, round visage, dark com­plexion; a laborer.
