    the time of Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand

    Lapu-Lapu (14911542) was the DatuofMactan,who is known as the first native of

    the archipelago to haveresisted Spanish colonization. On themorning of April 27, 1521, He ledapproximately 1,500 armed Mactan warriors,in a battle against 49 Christian soldiers ledby Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.Magellan and several of his men were killed.

    Rajah Sulaiman III (15581575) wasthe Rajah ofMaynila. Along with Rajah

    Sulaiman II and Rajah Lakan Dula, he wasone of three Rajahs who foughtthe Spaniards during the colonization ofthe Philippines in the 16th century.
