Pollution Prevention: is reducing or eliminating waste at the
source by modifying production processes, promoting the use
of non-toxic or less-toxic substances (green procurement),
implementing conservation techniques (energy, water, land and
air), and re-using materials rather than putting them into the
waste stream (recycling).
Fort Buchanan P2 Program:
- Assesses Environmental Impacts arising from construction
activity and promotes Best Management Practices to prevent
erosion, ensure storm water quality and prevent storm sewer
system sedimentation as a consequence for improperly
managed construction sites.
- Verify Army generated waste streams for reduction, reuse and
recycling opportunities.
- Assesses current operations generated hazardous material
generation for replacement opportunities with less hazardous or
green qualified materials.
- Assesses opportunities for water and energy conservation,
studies recycling and reuse.
- Promotes Green Building and Low Impact Development (LID)
Practices.
