Wheatus and we danced along in the mud with our children!

There was a great selection of food to suit all tastes on offer, not the usual array of junk food, but delicious spit roast chicken and potatoes, paninis and pancakes to Tibetan and Thai curries. Also on offer was fresh coffee, luxury hot chocolate and cooked breakfasts which were perfect for the Sunday morning.

The Festival grounds and campsite were kept clean and litter free and it was great attending something like this that the whole family could enjoy. It’s easy to see why it prides itself on being one of the best family festivals in the country. We’re looking forward to next year’s Festival already!

Early bird tickets on sale now for 17, 18, 19 May 2013. Check out www.beardedtheory.co.uk for details.

The Polly’s List families were so pleased to be invited back for the second year running to attend the Bearded Theory Festival at Kedleston Hall. Such a great venue and right on our doorstep, we arrived as early as possible to get into the Festival spirit.

A vibrant mixture of friendly and colourful characters, stalls selling bright festival clothes, jewellery and unusual souvenirs. Our families loved the Children’s Village and Angel Gardens completely dedicated to children’s entertainment including painting, storytelling, drumming workshops, wand and garland making, body zorbing and a dedicated stage hosting child acts (which adults seemed to enjoy too!).

We were entertained by around 100 acts over the 3 days which included Adam Ant, The Selecter, Dr Feelgood, Show of Hands and

This summer, National Trust is offering the opportunity to spend a fantastic and unusual day out at Kedleston Hall on Saturday 4th August. Four big acoustic sculptures, named the Hear Heres, will be installed along a new walk in the sculptural historic Parkland that surrounds the Hall as part of a programme that promotes playful and adventurous interactions with the landscape. Each Hear Here is designed to capture and amplify the sounds of the landscape, from the mysterious hums of a 1000-year-old tree to the murmurs of the wind and the trickles of the lake.

Visitors of all ages, but especially the little ones, will feel the excitement of a treasure hunt when they pick up one of the new maps of the park, designed specifically for the occasion, and set out to discover the sculptures and interact with them.

Guided walks will be created for kids, families and art enthusiasts who are interested in the behind-the-scenes story of the creation of the big metallic structures, and for all those who wish to discover the numerous histories that surround the creation and development of the beautiful Adam landscape.

Alongside the Hear Heres, Kedleston is planning a programme of family-friendly events throughout the summer, from picnics in the Parkland’s newly-created picnic spots

to music workshops to a “Make your own Hear Here” arts and crafts activities. This is a real treasure on your doorsteps: don’t miss it!

Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, audiences’ spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including

Theatre Cats is ready to launch its fifth summer school and this year we’ll be performing Aladdin!

A Whole New World and Friend Like Me will certainly make this summer school a favourite for all ages.

We are running our summer school for 5-16 year olds in Newhall and Derby again this year with just 40 places available at each location. The Newhall summer school is now full, however you can still grab a place on the Derby summer school if you’re quick as only a few places remain.

The week will take place at Heatherton Community Centre from Monday 20th – Friday 24th August. Each day will start at

9:30am and finish at 3:30pm. Students will need to bring a packed lunch with them everyday. On the last day there will be a performance for family and friends in the afternoon.

The cost of the whole week is just £79 for Theatre Cats students and £99 for non Theatre Cats students. Sibling discounts are also available.

Homemade... simple & delicious recipesThe families and friends of Walter Evans Primary School kindly donated some of their favourite family recipes to help create 'Homemade' - Their very own cookery book.

Many of the pupils also contributed by providing the illustrations and the front cover for the book.

Packed with delicious Starters, Mains and Desserts they have already had some great feedback from both parents and children. The book is now available to buy.

Priced at £5 each and can be ordered from [email protected]

The Elms, independent Nursery and Junior School to Trent College in Long Eaton, has the R-Factor to thank for its success.Relationships - between parents and teachers, between teachers and children and between the children themselves – underpin, and drive, everything staff at The Elms aim to achieve; the best possible education for each individual child.

Keith Morrow, Head of The Elms, adds: “My mission is to create a school where children and staff come through the doors every day full of enthusiasm and optimism about what the day will bring.

Building relationships with parents is key to helping a child succeed at school. We really

do listen to parents’ views and act upon them. Together we are a stronger school.” “The importance of a full educational package – where extracurricular activities encompass the central core of a robust academic education – is well understood at Trent College and The Elms.

Art, drama, music, sport and a host of other diverse activities and pursuits are imaginatively incorporated into the timetables, ensuring the most suitable and beneficial mix of activity possible.

Keith Morrow continues: “I’m often asked ‘Why should I send my child to your schools?’ The best answer I can give is ‘Come and see for yourself’. It’s hard to capture inspiring teaching, well-behaved and inquisitive children, excellent resources

and the fun, enthusiasm and engagement that comes from confident young people and children learning and playing together in a photograph, on a website or in a prospectus.”

2012 has been an exciting year so far for The Elms Nursery which has seen extensive developments. Due to demand its support to working parents has been extended by opening 51 weeks a year, with the option for early drop offs and late pick-ups added (7.30am to 6.30pm) for year-round continuity to families. Modern, spacious extensions have also been added to the nursery to welcome babies and toddlers (aged from six weeks) into the Nursery, in specialist age appropriate areas.

Helen O’Grady has over 15,000 children attending classes each week in the UK!

Drama gives opportunities for children to learn how to make friends, communicate and develop many interpersonal skills. Research has shown that children who are encouraged to participate in the arts are more likely to achieve academically and to become a success in life.

Our carefully planned curriculum helps children to gain an understanding of themselves and the world within which

they live. Building self-esteem and confidence is one the hallmarks of the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy.

Most of our students take to the classes straight away as they are so much fun and tap into the children’s natural desire to play. Our sessions include introductory activities, speech & language development, improvisations, verbal dynamics, creative movement, scripts, scene & dialogue development, presentation days and end

of year productions! Above all and most importantly are classes are fun!

Our students are currently getting ready to perform their end of year shows in the theatre, after all their hard work during term 1, 2 & 3 they will be able to show how each and every one of them is a star!

We are already taking enrolments for term 1 when the fun will continue! Call to book a FREE session.
