Chinese and Asian Modern and Contemporary Art

Celebrating the 5th anniversary of Poly Auction Hong Kong, the Chinese and Asian Modern and Contemporary

Art brought exciting results with a total transaction of HK$400 million, in which nine lots sold over HK$10

million. The Mask Series 1996 No.6 by Zeng Fanzhi took the lead with a sale price of HK$105

million, while Pink Chrysanthemums in a White Vase by Sanyu reached a high price of HK$55.46 million. Pines, A

estimates. After several rounds of bidding, Pines and A Valley of Colours were sold three times over the low pre-

sale estimates.

Jamie Yu, Head of the Department of Chinese and Asian Modern and Contemporary Art, remarked, “The

importance of Chinese modern and contemporary art is highlighted by the high auction price of the The Mask

Series 1996 No.6 by Zeng Fanzhi. Besides that, artifacts by Sanyu, Zao Wou-ki and Wu Guanzhong also

achieved high prices, reflecting the steady growth of the market for Asian artifacts. Contemporary art from

Japan attracts enthusiastic bids from Asian, European and American collectors, who are showing appreciation
