Roofglaze Limited has installed a largeskylight at London Heathrow’s SheratonSkyline Hotel, as part of a refurbishmentof the Hotel’s luxurious swimming poolcomplex.
The skylight comprises a series of Roofglazebarrel vault rooflights glazed in UV protected10mm opal multiwall polycarbonate. There aretwenty 2.1m span barrel vaults in total, each
measuring 48m long – totaling almost onekilometre of continuous rooflights, with aglazed area of more than 2,000m2.
Covering the Hotel’s cleverly designed leisurepool area, the Sky Garden, which featuresplanted areas with full size trees and shrubs,the skylight helps to create the sense of anoutdoors setting, indoors.

Case studyThe rooflights are connected via a series ofcustom extruded gutters that are attached tothe sides of the rooflights, forming a water-tight seal. A new steel framework finished inwhite powder coat supports this structure.
To maintain the appearance and high lighttransmission of the skylight, a trolley systemhas been installed to run between the gutters,enabling easy access for cleaning.
Acting as sub-contractors to Wallis Ltd., part ofthe Kier Group, Roofglaze undertook allaspects of the design and installation of theskylight, working closely with steelwork con-tractors and Wallis’s own team on site.
