Magnetic Polydron Early Years - Maths - Construction

A great new innovation from the makers of Polydron that will allow children to explore the worlds of shape and space and magnetism all in one exercise. Magnetic Polydron combines the fun of construction with the lessons of polarity.The product is coloured black on one side with the primary colours of red, yellow, green and blue on the reverse. The pieces will join when the polarity is correct in line with the colours. Children will play for hours, experimenting with different shapes, building various models and constructions.

Giant Polydron, the new sensory construction product encourages children to make and recognise 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. It helps children to develop an awareness of shape and texture as advocated by the department of childrens schools and families in their guidelines for early years education.Giant Polydron is heavily textured on one side which helps children recognise different shapes and forms. The inner

Its versatility allows the user to build bigger and more complex shapes, and can become a greater ally in helping to explain the nature of space within shapes. Polydron Activities Based Learning MaterialsThose Polydron activities allow children to practise assembling pieces to use them to make patterns and to build simple solids. Creating and understanding pattern is fundamental to Mathematical development and Polydron activities can support this in many different ways.

The pieces in the set have been chosen to include those that young children find it easiest to handle together with some more challenging shapes, such as the isosceles triangle.

Polydron Activities Based Learning MaterialsThis set is an extension of the 4-7 set explained above and includes hexagons and octagons. The pieces allow children to begin to explore families of solids such as the prisms. In addition activities have been included that work with childrens imagination.

For example, the Rockets activity allows children to build a model based upon familiar forms, such as the cuboid or

pyramid. However, they can then extend their model in any way that inspires them.

Throughout the pack there is a balance of traditional geometric forms together with imaginative variations.
