POMPTON REFORMED CHURCH NEWSLETTER June 2012 59 Hamburg Turnpike Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442 973-835-0541 [email protected] www.pomptonreformed.org [email protected] Two Hundred Years of Serving in Jesus' Name Dear PRC Family, After many months of prayer, planning and discussion, the big month of celebration has arrived! You have been reading and hearing about the special events planned for June 3 and 10, but there will be other opportunities for celebration throughout the year. One item for June 10 is the anniversary song written by PRC's youth during Young Disciples' Time. Nearly all the words of this song are from the lips of our youth, except for the opening lines. One of our older disciples, who was listening in during Young Disciples Time several months back, handed me a scrap of paper with these lines: We gather together to worship today, as many before us have done. Two hundred years of... You'll hear the rest on June 10, but thank-you, Michele MacDonald, for this good way to launch a great song! In addition to the June 3 Potter's House presentation, and the June 10 celebratory worship and luncheon (with plenty of surprises that day!), our choir will offer their final anthems of the season on June 17. Bells finished their season on May 20, and we are grateful for Patti's and Janine's leadership of such gifted players and singers. By fall, the prayer is that we'll have a new organist/pianist in place to complement our excellent music program. From the pulpit, Pastor Debbie and I are excited about offering a summer message series from the Book of Acts. A Church Refocusing, Reimagining and Renewing is our theme, and it will be intriguing to hear different themes emerge that may help shape our life and growth and outreach for this next phase of PRC's history. June bulletins will offer an overview, but we encourage you to read through this book of the early church's history over the summer months. West Virginia mission trip, Delaware white water rafting, ice cream socials are among the events of which you'll be hearing more. As always, keep your eyes peeled for new (and familiar) faces in our midst, that all who enter these doors will experience the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Serving Him with you, Pastor Tom Bartha

Pompton Reformed Church 200th Anniversary

Pompton Reformed Church 200th Anniversary Celebration!

Each month an artifact of Pompton Reformed Church’s history will be displayed within the sanctuary. Currently on display is a Seal which was once used for documents of the church. Additional upcoming events include: Thursday, June 7th – A candlelight service on the eve of the actual anniversary. Sunday, June 10th – A Celebration Luncheon for our church family. Next time you are within the sanctuary - take a moment and look around the beautiful place in which we are so blessed to worship. While you stand there in the present, embrace the past and look ahead with great anticipation toward the future.

Happy Anniversary!

We are asking our Church Family to please sign up as Coffee Hosts. This is a great way to greet your Church Family! All you need to bring is a half gallon of milk. All you need to do is make a few pots of coffee and clean up. The Fellowship Committee prepares the food before church and also has two pots of coffee ready to go. If this is a new activity for you, there are always Fellowship Members in the kitchen before and after church to help you. We would love to see more of our Church Family participate in this very rewarding activity!

Consistory Roundtable of Thanks! (from May's Consistory)

--The nearly 50 volunteers who helped to make our 4th Annual Community Pancake Breakfast such a grand day! In addition to our own community, we welcomed and fed approximately 200 guests! -- All who participated in the May 12 church clean-up day, coordinated by our Operations Team. Much was accomplished!

VBS week is approaching fast! July 16th through the 20th will find the church

overflowing with laughter, singing and children coming to learn about Jesus. It

doesn’t get any better than this! The theme this year is SONrise National

Park and will focus on Philippians 4:19 and remembering God will provide all

we need no matter where we journey. Roben Roon has joined Maryann

Waibel as co-chair. They are currently looking for a pianist. Please keep

Maryann and Roben in you prayers as well as the children, teachers, helpers,

musicians and anyone who attends. May God bless this offering of our time

and talents.

Cereal, canned fruit, baked beans, rice and beans. In

addition, low fat, sugar free and lo sodium food items are accepted. We are also collecting personal items such as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, liquid clothes detergent and deodorant.

FATHERS, FLAGS & GRADS by Elaine Peacock

June is upon us with a whole bunch of Hallmark moments. Excited grads are popping up all over whether it is college, high school, middle school or PRE-K, they are all special moments; not to mention all those pictures and videos taken by proud moms, dads and grandparents.

June 14th is our flag's birthday so remember and honor the day by flying our flags proudly.

Last, but surely not least, is Father's Day. Who among us doesn't remember that homemade gift we gave Dad so long ago, you know the one, the plaster imprint of your hand. I'll bet he still has it. On Father's Day, let us also remember our Heavenly Father because He doesn't need a plaster imprint of our hand: He carries our imprint on His heart and when we finally meet Him fact to face someday, He will gather us up in His arms and hug us, just like our earthly fathers, and welcome us home.

All are welcome to join the Pathfinders in rafting down the Delaware River on Saturday, June 9th. See Mike Warner for details or contact Bruce Davis at 201-236-3164 or via email at [email protected].

Free CPR Course – Christian Health Care Center is offering a free American Heart Association CPR Anytime program from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday June 5th in the CHCC Auditorium. Participants will learn CPR basics for adults, children and infants and will take home a practice mannequin, DVD and certificate of completion. Class size is limited to 35. Pre-registration is required. Registration deadline is June 1st – call (201) 848-5229 or email: [email protected].

YOUR IDEAS ARE NEEDED FOR AUTUMNFEST! This year, Autumnfest is to be held on October 20 and it will be tied in with the Church's Anniversary. We would like everyone in our Church Family to contribute to this great day in some way. We are asking for your prayers that this event will be a way of bringing people together to our church to welcome, nurture and care for them in a way that God would want us to. You will once again be given many different opportunities to participate. You can make crafts, bake for the bake sale, donate a souvenir from your favorite vacation spot, donate used books, CDs, and DVDs, donate to the Give-Away Baskets, work on one of the many committees, help plan games for the kids, setting up, cleaning up or work in any area of your choice that day. Even if you can only give one hour that will be a big help! If you have ideas on ways to tie in the anniversary with Autumnfest, please speak to any Fellowship Committee member. We love to hear new ideas! Last year’s event was a success thanks to you, and with your help once again, we will make Autumnfest 2012 bigger and better! God's Blessings to all of you!

Some ways you can help: Post Office- Please remember to bring back souvenirs from your favorite vacation spot and wrap them in brown paper with the destination on it. When purchasing a gift, please spend between $5.00 - $10.00 and indicate if it is for a male, female, or child. Baked Goods- Dot Ploch will be asking for baked goods for our Bake Table. A Sign-Up Sheet will also be placed on our Fellowship Bulletin Board. Book Sale- We will once again have our Used Book, CD, and DVD Sale. Please save these items. In September we will be storing them on the left side of Room 103. Basket Give Away- We will be making up three baskets to give away this year. The summer newsletter s will list the donations needed.

Please see Jo-Ann Sisco for Vendor forms. Additional forms will be published in future

newsletters.
