DESCRIPTION

The several million ponds on the continents and the phytoplankton and other luxuriantly growing aquatic plants on death and decay turn into organic carbon. During photosynthesis these plants made use of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. and stored the carbon in their tissues. The accumulated organic matter on the pond floor is securely removed from the lower troposphere reducing the carbon dioxide levels.
